Hi!
"I need to pick up my boarding pass," I say to the lady behind the Alaskan Airlines desk.
"I'll need to see your ticket and ID, please." The woman smiles up at me, waiting as I pull the items from my purse.
After scanning the bar code, she takes my ID and turns to her computer, but then she pauses ad lifts her eyes back to mine. "Isabella Swan," she says, her lips twitching. "I sold these tickets. Your boyfriend was very specific in his request."
"Uh …" I hesitate, unsure what that means or how I should respond. "Tickets?"
She chuckles, her fingers flying across the keys. "Yes. Tickets," she says as the computer starts spitting out my boarding pass. "There are eight off them." Her eyes lift to mine as she hands me an unusually thick stack of passes. "He purchased two complete rows of seats so you wouldn't have to sit near anyone." He brow lifts. "Premium class seats."
My mouth pops open, but I have trouble finding words. "And how much were they?" I'm slightly horrified and completely bowled over by his love at the same time.
"Do you really want to know?" she asks. "I think it's obvious he cares more about your safety than the money." She sighs, propping her chin on her fist. "So dreamy."
I can't help it. A little giggle escapes, and then another. Of course he was able to woo the airplane ticket lady over the phone with just his sexy voice. I'm lucky she couldn't see him or his bulge as she would've probably stolen my tickets and flew down herself.
"You're right," I say, smiling like a girl with a man who loves her. "I don't need to know. Thank you."
I take my eight boarding passes and turn with a contented sigh as I settle in to wait for my flight to be called. While I wait, I wipe down my phone and use sanitizer on my hands. Once that's done, I allow myself to sit back and get lost in thoughts of Edward.
Since his Valentine visit, we haven't had the chance to see each other again, but we had firm plans for the end of the quarter, where I'd meet his parents for the first time. Suddenly that's now and under very different circumstances than any of us could have imagined.
Only a week ago, the first death from the virus was confirmed, and I barely paid attention. U-Dub closing is the wake-up call that I needed, though. Edward is my comfort, the person who makes me feel safe and secure, and I can't imagine being anywhere else while we watch and wait to see how bad this might get.
As I take my premium class seat, I can't help but notice the looks as people pass me on the way to first class. Two rows, four seats each, and I'm the only person filling any of them. I almost feel ashamed, but then I think of Edward and how much it cost him to keep me away from these people—to keep me safe—and my shame transforms into more love than I know what to do with.
The two hour flight passes quickly, and I make sure to sanitize my hands right as we're landing. I don't want anything to keep me from wrapping my arms around him. My feet can't move me through the airport quickly enough as I search for that familiar face that I love so much.
I come to a halt as only ten feet in front of me, Edward leans casually against the wall. He notices me immediately and stands taller, his eyes raking over me from head to toe. That perfect corner of his perfect top lip lifts into a perfect smirk as he opens his arms.
Without hesitation, I run into them.
P.S. The plane tickets would've been $434 each, plus tax.
Some of you asked, so I'm doing well and staying home. I'm in a state with an idiot governor, but I don't need him to tell me the seriousness of what we're facing. I hope you're all doing the same and taking this seriously! Stay safe, hunker down, and read fanfic!
I made a form to sign up for your free copy of the Monster Inside Me series. I've pinned it to the top of my FB page Fyregirl Fics. You DO NOT need a FB account to find the form.
