Chapter 29
By the time Felix arrived at their apartment Saura was already there with groceries on the counter and a printed out recipe. "Hey, I figured something with pesto would be good for dinner tonight. I would have started it, but considering I regularly burn down kitchens when I use them I figured it was a better idea to wait for you." He could see the light from her phone as she sat on the couch probably playing a game.
His brow twitched as he stalked to where she was sitting. There was a mess of papers on the table in front of the couch. Some of them looked familiar, but others were written in a language he had never seen and others still were yellowed to the point of being considered antiques. Felix crossed his arms in front of him and knit his brows together. "Two questions. One, where were you? Two, what is all of this?"
At that point, Saura looked up him with a raised brow and then looked back to the mess of papers. "Well, I paid a visit to the fake fox,"
"Lila." Felix interrupted.
Saura's eyes went flat as she looked at him tilting her head. "I know who she is. I just saw her today. As I was saying, I paid her a visit and told her that she should avoid being akumatized again or she would die."
"What?!" another interruption. This time Saura decided that more attitude and sarcasm was needed to make sure she actually got to the end of what she was going to say.
"Do you want me to continue or are you going to tell the story yourself and save my breath?" Her flat gaze was met with a glare from Felix as he gestured for her to continue. "Alright. So, I told her what I had said previously. I'm sure you found out that the me at school was a copy. I needed to have my physical body in the place I would be using the most magic so I went to the hospital." Felix looked like he wanted to ask something, but bit his lip and gestured for Saura to continue. "As to what all of this is, well they are notes I made in the past and also homework that I should probably place in a different area before I turn in a paper written in the Daymienne language. I need to find a way to stop them from hurting another human." In the midst of her talking, Felix was having a hard time processing the last few pieces of information that she had said. Meanwhile, Saura placed her phone down and started to sort through the papers in front of her.
A chill ran down Felix's spine as the information she had just given him was processed. She knew how to not only read, but also write in the language of a forgotten and extinct clan of the Fey realm. She had to have learned from someone who survived the extermination of that clan or she was there before that extermination happened. Either way, she was far older than she should be. Even if she was a fox, the maximum she should be with her appearance and single tail would be around 1,800 years old. Maybe 1,900, but the death of the mysterious Daymienne clan happened was over 5,000 years ago. The pyramids hadn't even been built yet at the time in the mortal realm. Felix walked around the couch and sat down in a chair nearby as he swallowed the lump in his throat. A million questions were floating in his head as he stared wide-eyed at Saura.
Feeling the gaze on her, she looked up from the papers she had in her hand. "You can ask what's on your mind, Felix." The papers she was holding were set down on the table in the only neat pile there.
Felix's face darkened when he heard his name through her lips. He knew that she wasn't joking and they were going to have a serious conversation as he looked into her unwavering aqua eyes. It was strange to see them devoid of mocking or comedic emotions. It made her look far more mature than she had ever let on. In that moment Felix knew that she wasn't some young fox who was fairly good at magic, she was a dangerous creature that lurked under the guise of someone young and inexperienced. He licked his lips and opened and closed his mouth before he spoke. "Who…" the question died on his lips. He knew her well enough that she wouldn't answer that question truthfully. He didn't know why, but knowing the forgotten language might have something to do with it. He needed to ask the right questions that were pertinent to the moment. It had to have something to do with Lila and that 'them' Saura had all but snarled about. He didn't realize he was looking down until he went to ask his question again and looked into the patient eyes of Saura. "How did Lila get poisoned by magic and who did it? Who is 'them'?"
Her lip turned up slightly and a canine peaked out from its place in her mouth when she spoke. "I knew you'd ask the correct questions eventually." Her head was supported by her hand as she stared at Felix. He could see her thinking a she looked from the papers on the table to the groceries sitting on the counter. "Let's put the food away until we are ready to make dinner because this conversation will take some time for me to explain."
She got up in a smooth motion and glided across the floor, not even trying to hide her normal characteristics of being a fox. In other circumstances Felix would have thought that she was avoiding his questions again, but this was not the case now. There were no evasions, but an acknowledgment of lengthy explanations as to his two questions. "Let me explain about humans and magic first, then we will talk about what you know about foxes. If I feel up to it, I will answer your second question." Felix nodded and got up to help her with the groceries as she explained about humans, magic, and kwami.
A/N: grad school is time-consuming and hard, but I love it!
I hope you enjoyed the chapter! Thanks!
