Epilogue: Breakfast among Friends
Elinor's POV
"MERIDA!" I shot awake from the dream that has haunted me for over four years. The dream of watching my daughter drown as the Big Six transport goes into the ocean.
I rub my eyes and sit up. It was almost morning. The window started to show very little sunlight.
I sighed and got out of bed. I went downstairs so see my gronkle Huckley cuddled up with the triplets.
"Oh, you sweet lizard," I said as I patted him. He grumbled.
I stoked the fire and put on a cup of coffee. As I waited for the coffee to brew, I walked over to the wall where Fergus's Sword and shield hung on the wall.
"Oh, how I miss you, my dear," I said as I touched the blade.
The coffee pot started to whistle, so I quickly grabbed it and poured me a cup. I put some cream and sugar in it and opened the door.
I walked down the many stairs to the bottom and walked towards the ocean. I found the log that I
always walk down to when I have those dreams so that I can watch the sunrise.
I took a sip of my coffee and sat down. The morning was chilly but nice.
I heard a noise behind me. I look to see Valka walking up.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude," she said as she saw me.
"No, it's ok," I said.
We stood there, looking at each other.
"Care to join me?"
Valka walked over and sat next to me. She then started emptying her bag.
She had brought some eggs, some kindling, and a frying pan.
"Care for some eggs?"
"No thank you," I replied as I motioned to my cup.
She knelt and started a fire. She then started to cook her eggs.
"So, what brings you out here this morning?"
I sighed. "A bad dream. You?"
Valka nodded. "Same. It's always the same. I watch as Hiccup and the other members sink into the ocean."
I nodded and took another sip of my coffee. "It's a shame Hiccup and Merida didn't get married."
"Why do you say that?"
"That would have made us family."
Valka looked at me. "Elinor, we are family. I consider you as part of my family."
I smiled, "Thank you."
Just then we hear someone else walk over. We look to see Arianna walk over with a cup of something.
"Mind if I join you ladies?
"No, not at all," Valka said as she patted the log.
Arianna sat next to me as Valka continued to cook the eggs.
"Would you like some eggs, Ari?"
"Thank you. I'd love some."
Valka smiled and cracked another egg on the pan.
"My I haven't had a well-cooked egg in some time."
Valka laughed. "It won't be Corona level cooked, but it will be appetizing."
We waited as Valka finished up the eggs, and took out two plates. She served Arianna first then herself.
"You all waiting for the sun to rise?" Arianna asked.
"Yes. It's my favorite thing to watch."
Just as I said that. The sun slowly started to rise out of the ocean and turn the sky into beautiful colors.
"Amazing."
Just then, we heard some noises behind us. Dragon's Edge was awake. Soldiers were coming out of their tents and running over to the training pits. The dragon stables were alive as well. The Berkian Dragon riders went flying off to patrol the island.
We sat and talked for a good hour or so until a messenger walked up.
"Excuse me, your majesties, I hate to intrude, but Heather's agents have returned."
Arianna sighed, finished the last of her egg, and stood up.
"Hope to get some news about Frederic."
"Well, let's not keep Heather waiting," I said as I stood up.
Together we all got up and walked back to the Dragon's Edge base together.
