Chapter Forty-One
A few hours passed by and Jacob had gone to the local cafe to get Maya a coffee. Brenda remarking how he never usually gets a coffee. He just rolled his eyes before ordering a sandwich. Which the woman just passed him, wondering what was going on with him. She was a gossip after all, wondering what was going on with other people was in her nature. Jacob was very happy to take the things and go. As he made his way back to the 'Cricket Pavilion'. By the time he got there, Maya has moved from the seat and was was trying to pull out one of the sleeping bags. She was exhausted by this point, she had a sharp pain however every time she moved. Ethan and Kelly really did a number on her last night.
"Let me do that...You're in pain, Maya" Jacob spoke as he returned. Placing the coffee and sandwich to one side.
"I'm useless"
"Just sit down, okay"
With a slight groan in pain, she obliged as she limped back to the chair. For a spit second, it did remind Jacob that she's a lot older. Now she was no longer dressed up and no longer sorted out her hair or put on make-up; her age was a lot more on public display. Her mask had slipped. Though he pushed those thoughts to one side and pulled out the sleeping bag, making it more fit for use. Maya got up again as she limped towards it, taking her trainers off and getting into it for sleep.
"Maya...You're so sore, shouldn't you get yourself checked out?" Jacob asked.
"No, I'm just going to sleep now" Maya mumbled back.
With a sigh, Jacob pulled out the other sleeping bag for himself. It was hardly even 3 o clock, the schools haven't even finished yet. Yet Maya was already falling asleep again and to be honest, Jacob just didn't want to leave her despite it being in his best interest. The lad just slumped down besides her. Things no longer felt the same, being apart from her for so long must have lessened the sad dependence he felt towards her. He just began gently stroking her arm.
"I know you said you don't think my mum is going to accept us but I think she will if we explain in person" Jacob insisted, still trying to get her to agree to his plan.
"I really appreciate the attempt Jacob but I don't think she will"
"Okay then...How about if we go and if she doesn't accept us. We can just go, you know what I mean? Europe is a big place, we don't have to stay in Portugal"
"That will make me look great...Sorry Alicia but either you accept us or I'm taking your son elsewhere. Think about it, Jacob. There's no way for me to look good in this scenario"
"Okay, well forget Portugal then...We can go anywhere, just me and you"
"I can't afford anything Jacob...All my money goes to David now, child benefits and everything else. So you just go, I will still be here when you get back"
Jacob gave a sigh, he didn't think about these things. He was still too young to understand the concept of money not going too far sometimes. Dropping the subject at last, he just rested his head on her chest and closed his eyes. Maya got him back where she wanted then. Doing everything she asked and hanging onto her every word.
...
It's been two days now and Henrietta returned to the village. Hoping to see her granddaughter for she didn't think David was serious about banning her. Though he very much was. Maya was far away as far she was concerned. So she didn't think any harm could come from trying to see Erica again. So she gave a knock at his cottage, David was on edge since the brief kidnapping so he looked through the curtains to see who he was. He gave a slight sigh when he noticed it was her. This was the last thing he needed, he unlocked his front door (Erica fast asleep in the Moses basket).
"Go away" David demanded as soon as he came face to face with her.
"Please David, I just want to see her. I don't even have to hold her, I just want to see she's alright. You know I never ever do anything to harm her"
"Well she is alright and she will remain alright as long as you and your weirdo family stay away"
"Please...It will only be me, nobody else"
"No! Just go away Henrietta, don't make this any harder then it has to be. I can't trust you, Maya got her charges dropped the other day and I don't think it was because the police liked her"
This made Henrietta pause slightly. Yes, she made a mistake in letting her off but she believed it was the right thing to do. In her mind, Maya is going to stay with Ethan and will have no reason to go looking for trouble again. Though to everyone else, it does look bad. It just looks like she's using her powers to get her daughter off the hook.
"Maya won't cause trouble anymore...I had a long chat with her and she's gone back to her cousin's. She will leave you alone now" Henrietta tried to explain.
"Oh good, so why don't you leave us alone too?"
"David, I never ever would put Erica in danger...Please let me see her, I'm her grandmother. Please let me see her" Henrietta begged.
"No, I can't do that. I mean it Henrietta, just leave now. Erica will be better off without you"
"David...You can't do this"
"Are you not listening to me? I said go away...She's my child and I will decide who can or can't see her. Now get lost"
"David-"
"I said get lost!"
This made her stand back in shock, he really meant it then. He shut the door soon after and locked it back up.
...
"If that bitch comes round here again, I will give her to it again" Kelly remarked.
She was sitting with Ethan in his living room currently. She was referring to when she beat up Maya last night. She didn't regret anything, Maya deserved it. The only thing she regretted was distressing Rosa. Though thankfully, the old woman had forgotten about it now. Ethan just gave a small laugh.
"Yeah okay...I don't get her really, it's been decades and she's still obsessed with me. I just let her in because I felt sorry for her. Messed up thing she is, you did good though. She should have got a good hiding years ago" Ethan exclaimed.
"I walked in on her trying to kiss you...How sick is she?"
"Very sick"
The man seemed to enjoy this, making it all out to be her doing. No, he would never touch her he claims. Now Maya was outed (and he was not), it made his side of the story sound even more plausible.
"Where do you think she's gone?" Kelly questioned him.
"Back to her mum's I reckon...She always been a mummy's girl deep down"
"Sick little bitch, at least she will stay out of our way now. I do feel sorry for her kid, she's gonna grow up to be a right mess. No matter how good the dad might be"
"Yeah I know"
