Cogito Ergo Sum

Chapter 38

It doesn't take much to earn Kagome's loyalty. The Ootori were one of the first ones to ever show her some level of care and compassion and for that, Kagome committ's herself in their cause and vowed that she'll repay them one way or another.

She might be some street rat turned domesticated but her teeth were never gone to begin with.

Kagome looked at her shaken charge and noted that despite trying to act more mature than his age should be, Kyoya is still a sheltered rabbit compared to her. He was not used to these kind of things, the adrenaline pumping in a way that made your ears ring nor the steadily growing ball of lead in your gut when you realize that you're in deep trouble and might actually kick the bucket much more earlier than you should.

"I won't let anything happen to you." she doesn't know what prompted her to say those words but she was mentally glad that Kyoya seemed to draw comfort in them for even just a bit. He was roughed up and had bruises in places he must've thought didn't exist but at least he's alive and still kicking.

They were ambushed while on the way home from school, having been separated by the league of personal guards that tried to keep the Ootori heir safe. Kagome mildly blamed herself for that since she was the one who grabbed the boy and ran.

"What will happen now?" she heard him ask her, his composed voice cracking showing how distraught he must've been.

Kagome stared at him and weighted her actions and frowned when every route she thought of leads to a bad end.

The only plan that might have a chance of working is simple.

But it might be a one way trip.

"-no one truly cares if you just vanish out of nowhere." she froze.

It doesn't take much to earn Kagome's loyalty...

...And it doesn't take much to push her into doing stupid things either.
