The Son Squad Ch.10

The unease wasn't going away as Gohan and Chiyo looked in the direction the strong powers were coming from. Something was off about all this and they just knew it. As they stood side-by-side, Chiyo reached for Gohan's hand, squeezing it as a form of reassurance for not just herself, but for Gohan too. Since neither one of them no longer had their tails, they used this as a source of comforting one another.

As they both were hoping they were wrong, they thought back on their month-long trip to Namek and were glad they decided to do practice the technique that Piccolo had worked so hard to teach them.

Flashback

After a month of training, Piccolo had noticed how close Gohan and Chiyo were to one another. Sometimes they would finish each others' sentences, speak at the same time, and know how the other one was feeling without saying anything. Piccolo saw an opportunity with this. This could be useful against the Saiyans, Piccolo thought as he watched them eat their dinner, which they caught all by themselves.

The next day, when Piccolo woke them up bright and early for their training, Gohan and Chiyo expected that they would have to go straight into a sparring match with their master but were surprised when he instead said, ""All right you two, we will be doing something a little bit different today. We'll be working on the both of you forming a psychic link between each other."

Gohan and Chiyo looked at their master in confusion. Did that mean no more having to fight until they were sore? If so, that was a relief. Still, the twins did have questions about why they need to learn such a technique

"Um, Mr. Piccolo," Chiyo spoke up, raising her hand like she was in school. "Why do we need to learn do a psychic link?"

"I have my reasons," Piccolo replied, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked down at his two pupils. "The both of you share a bond like no other, and I think learning this technique will help benefit us in our fight against the Saiyans when they come to Earth."

"Um, how will that help, Mr. Piccolo?" Gohan now asked, raising his hand as well.

"Let's say for instance the two of you are separated in battle. With this link, you can not only contact one another through thought but also find out where the other is and coordinate an attack that the enemy won't see coming," Piccolo explained.

From the way Piccolo was making it sound, Gohan and Chiyo thought it made sense. At least it was better than getting beat up on.

"Now then, let's get to work."

For the next three days, Piccolo had forced the two to sit down across from another and not move no matter what. (Except for bathroom breaks and to eat. He wasn't that cruel.) He tried to get the two to try and figure out what the other was thinking, hoping that if they concentrated enough, they would be able to master the technique in no time. However, the efforts proved to be in vein. The twins tried their best to concentrate like their master was explaining to them, but they both just weren't able to get it down.

Instead of going into a fourth day of this, Piccolo scrapped the psychic training altogether and focused instead on honing the two half-saiyan's power instead.

End of Flashback

Now, on Namek, after working hard to perfect their teacher's skill that he wanted to teach them, Gohan and Chiyo wished to keep their new technique a secret, for now anyway. They were only going to use it in case of emergencies. Hopefully, this wasn't going to turn into one.

As the twins were just about to bring this to Bulma and Krillin's attention, a familiar space pod came into view. They all looked up to see what looked to be a Saiyan space pod crash land in the distance. All four shook as they realized that that ship could only belong to one person; Vegeta!

"Guys, suppress your energy or he'll find us!" Krillin ordered Gohan and Chiyo to do.

"Right, okay," The two replied, getting nervous at the thought of Vegeta being on Namek now. Still, they did as Krillin ordered, having better learned how to mask their power while training with him.

"What do we do now?!" Bulma nervously squeaked, falling to her knees at the thought of Vegeta being here. "We might want to just up and leave now before he knows we're here!"

"We can't do that!" Krillin quickly replied. "If he finds all the dragon balls, it's game over for us! Vegeta will use them to get immortality and then come straight back to Earth!"

The thought of Vegeta gaining immortality was a terrifying thought, especially for Chiyo. She didn't want to admit it, but she was absolutely terrified of Vegeta, especially after the beat-down he had given her when she tried to help Gohan out. She didn't want to have to face him again so soon.

"Listen Bulma, I think you should go back to Earth and let everyone know what's going on," Krillin told Bulma, turning back to face her. "Gohan, Chiyo, and I will stay here and try to collect the dragon balls while you head back to Earth to get Goku. We'll be fine here. As long as we got the dragon radar."

The plan seemed solid enough, and Bulma was more than eager to get back home and not stick around to deal with Vegeta. She stressed how even though it would be two months at the least, she tried to make it seem less bad by saying how it was just a measly 60 days or 5 million seconds. Nothing to worry about too much, right?

Just as that plan was set in stone, the three fighters of the group caught something coming down to the planet. They pointed out to Bulma who almost killed-over when she saw the thing that was freaking them out; it was another Saiyan space pod coming to crash down on Namek! Were there more Saiyans?! How much worse could this get?! Well….

A few minutes later, just as Bulma was about to leave, three guys showed up- both wearing armor and scouters similar to Vegeta- but they didn't look like Saiyans at all. Things were starting to not make much sense right now. Who were they and why did they have armor similar to Vegeta if they weren't Saiyans?

The three fighters suppressed their power as they watched these three goon-looking guys float above them. Without so much as "how do you do", one of them shot of a beam that destroyed the ship's engine, sinking all hope of being able to return to Earth right then and there.

Despite this, Gohan, Chiyo, and Krillin could tell these guys were nothing to worry about and quickly let their powers spike up. All three goons freaked at the sudden change in power these three off-worlders had, and before they could react, the three Earthlings jetted right for them and took them out before they could even counter. As soon as they fell into the water and didn't come up, the three earth warriors descended to the ground and hi-fived one another on a job well-done while Bulma was still upset about her broken spaceship. "How can you all be celebrating like this?!" She cried. "We're stranded on this planet!"

After getting what they could from the ship, the four decided it was best to find some place to lay low at for a while. It was about an hour's walk and everyone's feet were hurting, but not as much as Bulma's. She didn't understand why they couldn't fly to a safer spot but the three pointed out that doing so would get Vegeta's attention since he was using a scouter, and possibly whoever else was on the planet. However, they soon found a nice cave that they could put up a capsule house in the back of.

Suddenly, strong powers started coming their way and all four of them quickly ducked into the cave just as a large group flew by. Bulma was relieved when they were gone from sight, but the other three were shaking like leaves after catching just a glimpse of the cluster of powers that had just whizzed by.

"Um, guys, what's wrong?" Bulma asked them when she saw the looks of fear they all had.

"Bulma…check the dragon radar," Krillin simply stated, crouching over and holding his knees like he was about to throw up or something. "I need you to check the dragon radar again for me."

"Sure, but why?" She questioned.

"Earlier, you pointed out that four of the dragon balls were all collected in one place….take a look and see where they are right now."

Bulma did as she was asked of and gasped when she saw that four dragon balls were on the move in the direction that that large group has just flown. That meant that they had four of the dragon balls. But that….that wasn't even the worst part.

"Gohan, Chiyo, did you feel that one guy's power?" Krillin asked, still shaking from head to toe.

"Yeah, we did," Gohan replied with a nod.

"And he was terrifying," Chiyo added, feeling her stomach twisting in knots.

Why did this have to happen to them?! All they wanted to do was wish their friends back to life. Why was the universe being so cruel to them?! These guys made Vegeta look tame in comparison.

Bulma looked back at the radar again just to be sure and she gasped at what she saw; those guys were heading towards another dragon ball just a few miles away. "You guys, they're heading towards another dragon ball! They must have their own radar or something!" Bulma theorized, shaking now that she understood the dire situation that they were in.

"Then that's where I'm going!" Krillin declared, throwing his hat to the ground. He didn't want these guys to get another dragon ball to add to their collection.

"I'm going too!" Gohan quickly declared, thinking the same thing.

"Me too!" Chiyo also declared.

"Hold on a second!" Bulma interjected. "You three can't leave me alone out here in an alien wilderness!"

That was true. What if more of those goons showed up? Bulma would be left seriously defenseless. Still, it wasn't like they could just let these guys grab another dragon ball for themselves.

"I'll stay here and help Bulma out," Chiyo volunteered, earning a surprising look from her brother.

"You sure about this, kid?" Krillin asked.

"Yeah. I can stay here and protect Bulma while you guys go off to get the dragon ball," Chiyo stated. "And maybe, if we're lucky, another one will pop up on the dragon radar and I can go get that while those guys are over there."

That did seem like a solid deal, and a good compromise for Bulma. At least someone would be there to make her feel less tense.

"All right, if you're sure about this, then Gohan and I will go see if we can get to that dragon ball."

"We'll be back as soon as we can," Gohan said, trying to reassure the girls and himself. He didn't like the idea of splitting up from Chiyo like this, especially considering the situation. He had no doubt that Chiyo could take on any goon that came after her and Bulma, but he feared that Vegeta would show up and Chiyo would be all alone fighting him.

Don't worry about us, Chiyo told her brother through telepathic thought, causing Gohan to look over at her. You and Krillin go make sure those guys don't get the dragon ball. I'll see what I can do from here.

Gohan nodded to Chiyo. Right, we will. He replied telepathically. If things get bad, I'll get a hold of you to let you know. Just stay safe until we get back, okay?

Chiyo nodded back.

Only Bulma seemed to notice the silent conversation that Gohan and Chiyo were having between each other. She would've questioned the two about it but Gohan and Krillin took off to go get the dragon ball. "There they go," She remarked as the two disappeared from sight. Suddenly, she remembered something. "That's right; I have to call home and let the others know what's going on!"

As she ran into the cave to make that call, Chiyo still stared out at the path Gohan and Krillin had taken off from. She didn't like the idea of splitting up any more than Gohan did, but she also knew that Gohan was a lot stronger than he gave himself credit for, especially when he got angry. She knew that hidden power would be a lot more useful if him and Krillin needed to fight their way out of the situation. Chiyo didn't like that her and Gohan's power was so different despite the same training they got and their status as twins. Then again, Gohan had shown prowess all the way back when they had been kidnapped by Raditz, so Chiyo just thought he was naturally stronger than she was. Maybe this trip would change that. For now, though, this was the reality she faced.

"Hey, Chiyo," Bulma called out from the cave, catching the little girl's attention. "Come help me set up inside here, will ya?"

"Coming, Bulma," Chiyo said, running over to meet up with the blue-haired scientist.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, Goku had been informed by Master Roshi about the situation that was going on with Bulma, Krillin, and twins on Namek. He wasn't prepared for the bad news Roshi had brought with him about them being stuck there with powers far greater than Vegeta. Still, he couldn't do anything at the moment because he was still bound to the hospital because of his injuries.

As he was getting frustrated at the situation that laid before him, Yajirobe showed up with a fresh bag of sensu beans. Hearing this bit of good news, Goku quickly popped one into his mouth and instantly his wounds were healed, stunning the medical professionals before him. He took the bag of sensu beans from Yajirobe and prepared to take off out the window when Master Roshi asked him how he planned to get to Namek.

"I got that all taken care of," Goku assured his master as he stood in the window sill. He explained to Roshi how when Bulma's dad came to visit, he asked him about building a space ship since he thought something like this could happen. Goku figured that there was the one he took as a baby and that could be used as ship. "Dr. Briefs said it was in good working condition, so he's fixing it up for me to use!"

With that said, Goku called for Nimbus and jumped out the window to ride the little cloud to Capsule Corp to check out the progress on the ship that Dr. Briefs was working on.

"Man, that Goku's a nut," Yajirobe remarked after the Earth-raised Saiyan left.

"This is just how Goku's always been," Master Roshi stated. "He's always wanted to protect his friends, but he's also had this drive to fight and get stronger. This doesn't surprise me at all."

Yajirobe rolled his eyes at this. He still thought Goku was a nut.

Suddenly, a realization flashed upon Roshi and he quickly looked around the room in a frantic manner.

"Hey, what's got you riled up all of a sudden?" Yajirobe questioned the turtle hermit.

"I just remembered that Chi-Chi left Chinku here for me to watch!" Roshi shouted. "But she's not in here! Chi-Chi's gonna kill me!"

"Oh boy; you're dead man."

Goku's finally back in the game, but there seems to be trouble brewing on Namek for our heroes. Will Goku make it in time to save his children and friends? And where the heck is little Chinku?! Find out next time on, the Son Squad!

Quick notes before we end things here, guys; the poll for the upcoming one-shot is up and running still on my bio so if you wanna go check it out there, go right ahead. It'll probably be up until next Satuday or Sunday. Also, I'm thinking about adding in some art of Chiyo so you guys can get a look at what the twin sis of Gohan looks like. (I'm not the best artist though so don't expect it to be spectacular.)

Anyway, hope you guys stay safe. Have a good day!
