Vengeance: Night of Champions was live at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The event began with a video package of the event and its theme, "Night of Champions," followed by opening pyrotechnics. The first match was between The Wolfpack (Jackal & Bloodwolf) Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch and The Hardys (Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy) for the World Tag Team Championship. Cade, Bloodwolf and Matt started the match, with Matt and Bloodwolf taking out Cade before focusing on each other, Bloodwolf being mostly in control. The three teams tagged in and out until Cade and Murdoch attempted to walk out of the match, but the Hardys and the Wolfpack brought them back. Jeff attempted a Swanton Bomb onto Cade, but Bloodwolf pushed him off. Matt tried to interfere on Jeff's behalf, but was stopped by the referee. Murdoch used this as an advantage, and tried hitting Bloodwolf but he missed. Jackal and Bloodwolf attacked both teams before performing the double Powerbomb Clothesline to score the victory and retain their World Tag Team Championships.
The second match was between Chavo Guerrero and Jimmy Wang Yang for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. The match began with Yang and Guerrero locking up, followed by Yang in control through most of the match. After Yang missed a moonsault, Guerrero executed a Gory Bomb. Shortly after, Guerrero performed a Frog Splash on Yang. Afterwards, Guerrero pinned Yang to win the match and retain the Cruiserweight Championship.
The third match was between CM Punk and Johnny Nitro, who subbed in for the absent Chris Benoit. for the ECW World Championship. The match started off with Punk attempting a crossbody on Nitro. Nitro countered, however, and executed an enzuigiri. Nitro delivered a corkscrew neckbreaker and pinned Punk to win the match to become the new ECW World Champion.
The fourth match was between Santino Marella and Umaga for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The match began with Umaga in control, squashing Marella. Two minutes into the match, Umaga was punching Marella uncontrollably. The referee disqualified Umaga when he refused to stop after giving a five count, and Marella retained the title. Umaga, following the disqualification, delivered a splash and a Samoan Spike to Santino.
(AN: In my version of events, Maria did NOT go out to check on Santino after his match with Umaga)
The fifth match was between Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) and Ric Flair for the WWE United States Championship. The match started with Flair executing a series of backhand chops to MVP. Flair kept the advantage and applied the figure four leglock. MVP countered, by executing a low blow. MVP then performed the Playmaker and pinned Flair to retain the United States Championship.
The sixth match was an open challenge by Deuce 'n Domino to any tag team for the WWE Tag Team Championship, which was accepted by Jimmy Snuka, who just happens to be Deuce's real-life father and Sgt. Slaughter. Snuka and Slaughter controlled most of the match; however, Deuce 'n Domino got the win after Deuce pinned Snuka. After the match, Deuce 'n Domino attacked Snuka and Slaughter until Tony Garea and Rick Martel came into the ring to assist Snuka and Slaughter.
The seventh match was between Edge and Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship. This was a "Last Chance match", meaning if Batista lost, he could not get another shot at the World Heavyweight Championship as long as Edge was champion. Batista originally won the match by disqualification after Edge executed a low blow; however, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long restarted the match with the stipulation that Edge could lose the title by disqualification. Edge won the match after Batista was counted out, thus retaining the title, and with the match stipulation, Batista would be unable to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship so as long as Edge was the champion. After the match, in complete frustration, Batista attacked Edge and performed a Batista Bomb on him outside of the ring onto the ground before leaving him with the title.
The eighth match was Maria against Candice Michelle for the WWE Women's Championship. After a back and forth match, Maria hit the Wolf's Howl to score the pinfall and retain her Women's Championship.
And now it was time for the WWE Championship match.
It was time for the main event of the night. Bobby Lashley's music hits first and he comes out to a positive reaction. "Introducing the opponents first! From Colorado' Springs, Colorado... BOBBY LASHLEY!" Lashley enters the ring and poses on the turnbuckles before jumping down and waits. Mick Foley's music hits next to a pop and he comes out. "And From Long Island, Next York...MICK FOLEY!" Foley enters the ring, looking determined to become WWE Champion again.
Once he was in the ring, King Booker's theme hits and he comes out to boos. "And from Houston, Texas...KING BOOKER!" Booker enter the ring but stays clear of Lashley and Foley. Randy Orton's theme hits and the Legend Killer walks out to boos. "From St. Louis, Missouri... RANDY ORTON!" Orton enters the ring, posing on a turnbuckle before getting down.
John Cena's theme hits to a pretty loud pop and the former WWE Champion comes out. "And from West Newbury, Massachusetts...JOHN CENA!" Cena runs down the ramp, slides into the ring, and poses before tossing his hat and shirt into the crowd.
OOOOOOWHOOOOOO!
The Vengeful One hits to a mixed reaction and out comes the WWE Champion with Maria "And from Death Valley, being accompanied by Maria, he is the WWE Champion... THE BLADEWOLF!" Bladewolf enters the ring and takes off his jacket before handing the WWE Championship to the referee. The referee holds the title up before giving it to someone then calls for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Booker quickly fled the ring and stayed outside. Bladewolf looked around and knew Lashley, Cena, Orton, and Foley wanted to beat the crap out of him if it means taking the chances of him retaining out of the match. Bladewolf quickly slides out of the ring... AND SPEARS KING BOOKER!
Bladewolf slides back into the ring and...HITS ANOTHER SPEAR ON LASHLEY! Foley and Orton go at it as do Cena and Bladewolf, these two have been battling since last November, all for the WWE Championship. 2007 was really the year for the Bladewolf/John Cena rivalry.
Bladewolf grabs Cena from behind and hits a German Suplex. Bladewolf walks over and unloads with lefts and rights to Cena. The referee tells Bladewolf to get off and give Cena a chance. Bladewolf does so and watches Cena recover before walking over and gets to a knee before hammering away violently with right hands to the skull as Cena covers up until the referee warns Bladewolf again.
Bladewolf hits Cena in the head with a right hand, causing him to stumble back. Bladewolf then kicks Cena in the gut before giving another hard right, then another, then he hits a hard left before tackling Cena into the corner where he delivers a few shoulders to the gut until Cena begins delivering elbows to the back of the 4-time WWE Champion.
Bladewolf goes to a knee before he lifts Cena up and slams him onto the mat and delivered a few right hands to the head until the referee got involved, causing Bladewolf to back off.
Bladewolf watched Cena before running up and boots him in the face, causing him to go down again. Bladewolf grabs him around the waist and goes to hit a German Suplex until Cena delivers an elbow to the side of Bladewolf's head and does a few more until Bladewolf let's go. Cena rebounds off the ropes and takes Bladewolf does with a clothesline, going for the cover afterwards. ONE! TWO! THR-! No! Bladewolf kicks out!
Cena gets to his feet and stomped on Bladewolf a few times before picking him up and Irish whips him into the turnbuckle and runs for turnbuckle clothesline when Bladewolf ducks it, grabs Cena from behind and hits a German Suplex. Bladewolf walls over to Cena and goes for the cover. ONE! TWO! THR-! Cena kicks out!
Bladewolf sighs before he delivers a few rights to Cena's head before stopping and locks in a headlock, trying to wear Cena down or make him submit. Cena begins fighting back with elbows to Bladewolf's stomach, forcing the Champion to let him go. Both men get to their feet and run at each other, both clotheslining one another and going down.
Cena rolls out of the ring and Lashley goes on the attack. He tosses Cena into the barricade... WHEN RANDY ORTON HITS AN RKO OUT OF NOWHERE ON LASHLEY!
Orton slides back into the ring as Bladewolf gets to his feet. There is a lot of history between these two men. Bladewolf and Orton circled each other before they locked up with one another and had a test of strength before Bladewolf shoved him to the mat, getting cheers from the crowd. Bladewolf gestured for Orton to bring it and ducked a right from the Legend Killer and retaliated with one of his own to Orton's jaw. He grabs Orton and delivers a few knees to Orton's gut before Irish whipping him into the corner and runs to deliver a turnbuckle clothesline.
Bladewolf would have done more but Orton slides out of the ring quickly and Bladewolf follows, going to grab Orton but the Legend Killer delivers a right hook to Bladewolf's jaw that had him stumble back. Orton tackled him into the apron and delivers a few right hand to the head of Bladewolf before grabbing him and bounces his head off the barricade, then does it on the steel steps before doing it a third time but on the announce table. Orton delivers a few more rights to Bladewolf before tossing him over the announce table, causing the commentator's to move out of the way as Orton comes around and hammers away on Bladewolf, then drags him from behind the table and tossed him back into the ring.
Orton walked towards Bladewolf when the Champion tripped him up and got on too, hammering away with right hands to the head which caused Orton to cover up. Bladewolf got to his feet and waited until Orton got to his before the two locked up in another test of strength, then Bladewolf knees Orton in the gut before punching him with a hard right hand, then a hard left to the gut before delivering another knee.
The two locked up once again and Bladewolf slides behind Orton to get a side headlock locked in, but Orton simply reached around Bladewolf then lifted him up from behind and hits a back suplex. Orton went for the cover but Bladewolf kicks of at two. This causes Orton to get on top of Bladewolf and hammer away with hard rights to the skull of Bladewolf. He kept doing this before eventually stopping and gets to his feet only to drive a knee into Bladewolf's gut and then begins stomping on Bladewolf repeatedly before going limb to limb.
Orton picks Bladewolf up but the WWE Champion suddenly grabs him and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. The Bladewolf gets to his feet as Orton begins recovering and uses the ropes to pull himself up. The two locked up once again but this time Bladewolf slides behind Orton and hits a German Suplex. After the sixth he let's go and goes for the cover but Orton kicks out at two.
Bladewolf gets to one knee and hammers away on Orton multiple times before getting to his feet and picks Orton up with him. He Irish whips Orton into the corner before running and hits a turnbuckle clothesline, then pushed Orton to the mat. Bladewolf drags Orton into the center of the ring and raises his right arm, causing the fans to cheer as they know what's about to happen. Orton soon gets to his feet and turns around... For the first time, Lashley and Bladewolf are face to face. The two men locked up and had a test of strength, the fighting also happening outside the ring. Bladewolf knees Lashley in the gut but Lashley shoves Bladewolf back to his surprise. Bladewolf nods with a serious look before he and Lashley go at it.
