Words Aren't Enough
Chapter 39
Later on that day
"Are you leading me towards a front door or the back door of somewhere. I smell food, and it's really quiet wherever we are." Brooke said.
"All will be revealed soon enough. Let me help you take off the blindfold." Lucas said. Letting go of her hand as he carefully lifted the blindfold from her face.
"Surprise!" The crowd of family and friends cheered in unison.
An expression of surprise and shock went across Brooke's face.
"Happy baby shower!" Peyton exclaimed happily.
"We've had to keep it a secret for days you should be very proud." Rachel said.
"Thank this is amazing. I love you all." Brooke said. The emotion thick in her voice. As she stared around the living room.
The home living area had been transformed into an explosion of the colors blue, green, and yellow. It was bright, cheerful, and hopeful. With multiple baby themed objects and games set up. There was music playing softly in the background. In the kitchen there was countless entrees, drinks, and a full table of desserts. In the entryway of the home was where you left baby shower gifts and wrote down wishes and hopes for the new baby.
...
Sometime Later
All the guests were enjoying themselves. Catching up on the recent events of their lives. Fawning over Brooke. The gifts were opened, the games were played, pictures were taken and memories that would last a lifetime were made.
Jamie and Jenny were catching up running around. Filling the room with laughter.
Astrid lingered around in the background not wanting to bring much attention to herself. Eventually the party came to an end.
Jamie and Lydia were put to bed by Brooke. While Lucas finished cleaning up in the kitchen.
"You go to sleep i'll take care of this." Astrid said.
"You're daughter is right. We can handle puting away leftovers and the dishes without you." Brooke said. Smiling up at him. As she walked over to where he stood.
Lucas wrapped his arms around her. Placing a kiss on her lips.
"The days of you two teaming up against me has begun. Alright i'll go to bed but if you need me i'll be up for awhile." Lucas said.
"I love you daddy." Astrid said. Wrapping her arms around her father. Placing a kiss on his cheek.
"I love you too. Goodnight. See you in the morning." Lucas said. Turning from them as he left the kitchen.
...
All that remained was Brooke and Astrid.
"You pulled off the entire baby shower. Without me knowing anything. I was so against celebrating given all the recent loss that has happened. I'm beyond thankful that you did this. It means more to me then you will ever know." Brooke said.
Astrid stared up at Brooke. The expression on her face softening.
"It was my turn to make a thoughtful, grand gesture. You've put you're heart out there time and time again. I was happy to do it. I'll take care of putting away the leftovers."
"Goodnight I love you mom." Astrid said.
Brooke felt tears of happiness well up in her eyes.
"Goodnight i love you too." Brooke said. Taking a deep breath as she turned ftom Astrid and went up the stairs.
