Trickshot chapter 6 -
"One of the wizards most rudimentary skills is levitation..." Professor Flitwick, the charms professor and head of Ravenclaw class said as he taught his first year class.. "or the ability to make objects fly. Do you all have your feathers?" He asked, making sure each student had a feather in front of them. "Good, now don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practising. Just swish and flick, everyone."
"Just swish and flick." The class repeated.
"Very good and remember to enunciate." Flitwick said. "Remember the incantation, 'wingardium leviosa'." He watches as the class all attempted the spell, nobody seemed to get it immediately but that did not surprise him, the last person to get it on the first time was Lily Evans. He was suddenly brought out of his thoughts when he saw everyone looking up, he looked in the direction of their eyes and saw somebody had levitated a feather up to the ceiling.
He looked around to see who was casting the spell and his eyes landed on none other than Harry Potter who had his wand aimed at it.
"Oh well done!" Flitwick exclaimed happily. "Just like your mother Mr Potter, well done, ten points to Ravenclaw."
"Thank you sir." Harry said as he lowered the feather back down, ignoring the jealous glare coming from Hermione Granger.
"Nice one," Lisa whispered. "how do you do it? Mine isn't even rising up."
"Try it again." Harry said.
"Fine." Lisa said before she cast the spell again but like the last time she was unable to levitate it.
"Hmm, try it again." Harry said. "but this time change the way you say it. It's Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa, make the 'gar' nice and long."
"Well, let's see if it works." Lisa said as she performed the wand movement. "Wingardium leviosa." She said and her feather rose a mere two seconds before Hermione's feather.
"Oh well done Miss Swan!" Professor Flitwick clapped. "Excellent job."
"Thanks sir, Harry helped me." Lisa replied.
"Well done to both of you, another ten points to Ravenclaw. Oh and Miss Granger, well done on being the first lion to do it, ten points to Gryffindor."
"Thank you sir." Hermione said, though she wasn't as happy as she would have been if she had got it first.
"Nice one Liz." Harry whispered when she lowered her feather back down.
"Thanks." She grinned, the two then noticed Loki pointing a wand, which was really a stick, at a feather and tried to get it to rise. He tried for several attempts and then began grinning happily as it rose in the air, Harry chose not to mention that he was the one who was levitating it.
"Did you hear her?" Ronald Weasley said as he complained to the other Gryffindor's about Granger while they were walking out of charms class. "'It's LeviOsa, not LeviosA'." He said.
Meanwhile Harry and Lisa were unfortunate enough to be walking in front of them. Harry wondered why the boy had to be so loud, honestly his friends were next to him, why did he have to be so loud?
"She's a nightmare, honestly." Ronald Weasley continued. "No wonder she hasn't got any friends."
Harry, who was fine with just ignoring him, suddenly had someone shove his right shoulder as they walk past, the bushy hair gave away who it was and the sniffing indicated she was crying.
"I think Granger heard him." Lisa said.
"Liz I think people in Brazil heard him with how loud he was talking." Harry said with a roll of his eyes.
"You think we should check on her or something?" Lisa asked.
"Why? Not my friend, not yours as far as I am aware. Besides she's just crying because she was insulted, it's not the end of the world."
"True." Lisa shrugged, conceding the point. "I suppose it's not anything too serious either."
"I grew up on the streets and I spent most of time sleeping in a warehouse or in shop doorways when I wasn't diving in bins for food, I think she can survive getting insulted."
"Are you sure you don't want to go to the Halloween feast Harry?" Lisa asked as she and Harry sat in the library. Harry was reading a book while Lisa absently petted Loki.
"Positive," Harry replied. "you can go if you want to though. I wouldn't mind."
"Nah, I'm your friend and I am staying with you." Lisa replied. "It's just...are you okay? I'm sorry I don't have much experience with friends but I was just wondering if you're alright? You know...with it being Halloween and all?"
"Honestly?" Harry asked as he put his book down and looked up at her. "It's weird for me. A year ago the only way I would've known it was Halloween would be seeing a lot of people in costumes but here it's apparently a big deal. Plus today is the anniversary of my parent's death, I never knew them or at least I don't remember them. I know that makes me sad but I don't know if that's all I am supposed to be, like am I supposed to be angry as well? I don't really know, I've just never really had time to think about it."
"Yeah, I suppose I can understand, I'm guessing it wasn't a priority on the street. What do you even do when you are homeless?"
"Get money and food when you can and stay out of the way when you can too." Harry said as he closed his book. "I'm going back to the common room now," He said as he got up and placed the book now. "come on Loki." Harry called, Loki jumped into his arms and climbed up so he was on his shoulder just as Lisa got up. The pair walked out of the room and talked the whole way back.
"Hold on," Harry said eventually, they stopped and began sniffing the air. "do you smell that?"
"Yeah, what is that?" Lisa asked, Loki made a disgusted face before he covered his nose with his hand.
"Hold up...do you hear that?" Harry asked as they heard what sounded like big stomping along with loud guttural sounds.
"Yeah...we should go." Lisa said as she began backing away.
"Probably." Harry and Loki quickly nodded in agreement as they backed away and quickly began walking away. "Should we run? I feel like we should run."
"Roar!"
They stopped in their tracks and their three heads snapped back and saw a troll standing there, growling at them as it held a club in it's hand. Harry heard Loki gulp as he felt more than saw Lisa stiffen.
"Now that..." Harry grabbed Lisa by the arm and pulled her along with him as he backed up. "...is a huge bitch." The troll roared again and rushed towards them, this snapped Harry and Lisa into action and both turned and ran for their lives with the troll chasing after them. "Fucking hell!" Harry cursed as they neared a corner, "Lumos Maxima!" Harry shouted as he pulled out his wand and fired a bright light that temporarily blinded the troll.
Harry and Lisa ran around the corner, the troll crashed into a wall thanks to not seeing properly because of Harry's spell. It shook his head a couple of times before it continued chasing Harry and Lisa..
"Why is it chasing us?!" Lisa screamed.
"Because we're smaller than it!" Harry yelled as they stopped in front of a rail, Harry quickly looked around and realised that they were on the fourth floor staircase, as he looked down he couldn't help but wonder if a troll could survive the fall, he looked back at the charging troll and couldn't help but think that now would be a good time to test it. "Liz!" Harry shouted as he grabbed her by the arm, snapping her attention to me. "Move when I tell you!" He said as Loki jumped onto her shoulder.
"What?!"
"No time!" He said as the troll got closer, Harry flicked his wrist and a card fell into his hand, the troll ran faster and was close. "Now!" Harry shoved her out of the way before he threw the card and managed to hit it in the eye.
The troll screamed in pain but did not stop running, Harry jumped out of the way and the troll crashed feet first into the railing, the railing broke and the troll fell down, screaming as it fell down all four floors before it crashed on the ground floor with a resounding thud. Harry heard the sound of more screams and looked around before he realised that there were other students on other staircases. They looked from the troll to Harry with dumbfounded and disbelieving expressions. Harry ignored them for the moment and focused on Lisa who was shivering as she sat with her legs to her chest and her hands on her head as her whole body shook.
"Hey, hey!" Harry said as he kneeled in front of her and grabbed her by the shoulders. "Lisa it's alright, Lisa it's alright, look at me Lisa."
"H...Harry..." She trembled. "it...it..."
"It's currently either dead or unconscious." Harry said cutting her off. "Look at me, you are not dead and you are not hurt, unless you hurt yourself when you fell in which case I am sorry but you are basically fine."
"I...I..." Lisa shook her head before slowly rising to her feet with Harry helping her. "I am sorry." She said after taking a deep breath. "I...I spent all of my life in a manor with servants doing any and everything I want, I...I've never been in a situation like this."
"Yes well believe it or not this was my first time getting chased by a troll as well." Harry said as Loki hopped on to his shoulder. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"I think I will probably fine." Lisa answered honestly just as Professor McGonagall, Snape and Quirrell arrived.
"What happened?!" McGonagall demanded.
"Well there's a troll down there." Harry pointed down the staircase.
"We can see that!" Snape snapped. "Why is there a troll down there?!"
"It was chasing us and chased us here, we got out of the way and it accidently fell down to it's death...or at least I think it's dead." Harry said as he glanced down at the unmoving troll body.
"Why were you not in the Halloween feast?!" McGonagall demanded.
"We were in the library professor." Lisa answered. "We didn't feel like going."
"Why not?"
"Oh I am not sure why I would not want to go and celebrate with sweets, laughter and loud noises on the anniversary of my parents death." Harry said sarcastically, he might have been politely if not for the headache he had right now plus the fact that he had just nearly got killed by a troll. Professor McGonagall winced slightly while Professor Snape sneered as Professor Quirrell glanced over the edge at the troll.
"You two are lucky, not many first years can take on a fully grown mountain toll and live to tell the tale," McGonagall said. "five points...to each of you...for sheer dumb luck."
"Thank you but if you don't mind then I am going to take Lisa back to the common room."
"Very well." Professor McGonagall nodded.
"Thank," Harry said as he and Lisa began walking away. "oh and professor you'll want to get that leg looked at." Harry said as he gestured to the gash on Professor Snape's leg, fortunately he and Lisa managed to get far enough away before the professor could respond.
"Thank you Harry." Lisa said as they arrived back in the common room. "For saving me." She added in case it was unclear why he was being thanked.
Don't sweat it, consider it payback for my broom if you want." Harry shrugged. "Now if you don't mind I plan to be in bed before everyone comes back and I got my first quidditch match tomorrow and the day after I have to go have a meeting with my lawyer so I'd like to be rested."
"I think I'll probably go to bed too," Lisa sighed. "I do look forward to seeing you play though."
"Thanks," Harry smiled at her. "though just to confirm for me, you are definitely okay?"
"Yes I am, goodnight Harry." She said before he kissed Harry on the cheek, she quickly rushed upstairs with a smile while Harry stood rooted in place with widened eyes, at least until Loki cuffed him on the back of the head.
"Alright team," Troy the Ravenclaw quidditch team captain said as the Ravenclaw team were waiting to go out. "we are going to win this today, we've been practising hard, we have brilliant players and we have our secret weapon." Troy said as he pointed at Harry who simply smiled and waved. "We've got this in the bag. Hufflepuff won't know what hit them. Alright get ready, we'll be going on soon."
"Nervous Harry?" Ryan asked.
"Little." Harry admitted. "But I'm just going to ignore it until we win, I am sure it'll be gone by that point."
"You seem sure that we'll win." Brian noted.
"Of course we'll win, I'm on the team." Harry said as if it was obvious knowledge, the whole team paused and looked at him.
"Well...at least he's confident." Troy shrugged. "But he has a right to be, he's a damn good player and with the plays that he has come up with I like our chances."
"Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the best quidditch match of the year so far, which also happens to be the first quidditch match of the year so far. Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw." Lee Jordan, the quidditch commenter said into his microphone as the quidditch stadium was filled up with people. Lee Jordan announced the Hufflepuff team as they came out before he began announcing the Ravenclaw team as they walked out. "And now the Ravenclaw team. We have seeker Cho Chang, keeper Brian White, beaters Jessie Cox and Jeff Castle along with chasers Ryan McDonald, team captain Troy Jackson and Ravenclaw's surprise player and youngest chaser in a century, Harry Potter!"
Harry walked out along with the team and grinned as the Ravenclaw stand cheered widely, he waved at Lisa who waved back along with Loki who sat on her shoulders. The Ravenclaw team stopped in the middle of the pitch with the Hufflepuff team stood opposite them. The team captains shook hands before the teams got on their brooms and flew up into the air. Harry waited along with the others for the balls to be released and for the match to start.
"I want a nice clean game!" Professor Hooch announced as she was the referee for the match. She stood in the middle of the stadium with a trunk by her feet, she opened the trunk and the balls flew out of it and into the air, the snitch came out first and hovered around each seeker before disappearing from sight. The bludgers came out next and began flying in random directions, next came out the quaffles.
"The quaffles are out, and the game begins!" Lee Jordan announced. "And Ravenclaw is in possession first with Harry Potter taking the quaffle."
Harry flew towards the Hufflepuff posts, he ducked under a bludger before dodging one chaser that tried to knock the quaffle out of his hand, Harry flew towards the hoops and made it look like he was aiming for the right hoop, he tossed the ball and the keeper quickly covered the hoop. The keeper was quickly surprised when the quaffle curved and passed through the middle hoop.
"Wow!" Lee Jordan said as the Ravenclaws cheered. "Harry Potter puts Ravenclaw into the lead by scoring the first goal and earning ten points for Ravenclaw! What an amazing shot!"
"Nice one Harry!" Troy shouted before the match continued.
"Hufflepuff is in possession," Lee Jordan said as he watched the match. "they're looking strong and...oh Jackson intercepts a pass and tosses the quaffle to McDonald, McDonald charges towards the Hufflepuff post and dodge all attempts to stop him. He passes it to Potter, Potter throws it back? No Jackson takes the ball, Jackson goes ahead with Potter and McDonald trailing behind."
As they neared the goal post Jackson pulled his arm back to throw as he flew higher while Ryan went low as Harry maintained his position. Troy threw the ball but instead of aiming at the hoops he threw it downwards, the keeper looked at Harry who was in position to catch it, he became confused when Harry did not catch it and just grinned at him as it flew down past him. Ryan caught the quaffle and tossed it up just as the keeper looked down to see where it had gone, Ryan had sent it to Harry who span in midair and hit it with his broom which sent it straight through the left hoop.
"Another ten points for Ravenclaw!" Lee Jordan announced as the chaser glared at Harry who simply shrugged his shoulders and smirked at him before flying off.
Several minutes into the game the score had become sixty to twenty in favour of Ravenclaw, the Hufflepuff's booed as the Ravenclaws cheered widely. It became obvious that there was a reason why Harry was on the team and it was clearly because of his skill, even those that didn't like Harry found it hard to say otherwise with the way he was playing.
Troy had passed the quaffle to Harry, Harry charged towards the hoops and aimed at the right hoop. The keeper waited until he had thrown the ball then quickly moved to one of the other hoops so he could catch the ball when it curved just like all of Harry's other throws. It was then that he became really disappointed when the ball didn't curve and instead went straight into the hoop. His head snapped towards Harry who winked at him before flying off.
The keeper didn't get much time to process what happened as Cho had managed to catch the snitch about two seconds later thanks to the beaters helping keep the Hufflepuff seeker Cedric Diggory away.
"Ravenclaw wins!" Professor Hooch shouted, causing the Ravenclaw stand to burst into cheers.
"Go, go Ravenclaw! Go, go Ravenclaw!" They chanted as the Ravenclaw team hovered in the air and waved at the crowd. Harry had grinned and stretched his arms out so he could soak up the applause.
"That was amazing!" Lisa said enthusiastically later when she and Harry were alone after the match.
"Thanks," Harry smiled as Loki clapped for him. "the broom helped a lot, it was so much better than the school ones."
"Of course it was," Lisa snorted. "it's the latest model after all plus it has all of the optional extras included."
"What extras?" Harry asked.
"Limited speed boosters, self cleaning, defences against hexes and jinxes plus a seat warmer for when it's cold." Lisa listed. "It made the broom nearly double what it's worth but I thought they were all good features to have." She shrugged. "Anyway, most people wouldn't be able to play as good with that broom, have you considered going professional when you leave school?"
"Not really but now that I think about it I probably won't mind playing quidditch for money." Harry grinned. "Maybe I might even set up my own quidditch team." Loki clapped and pointed to himself. "Yes Loki, you can be the mascot." Loki clapped happily as the other two laughed.
A.N: Hi guys, I know some might be asking why Harry's broom didn't try throwing him off, I just want to point out how above states that the broom is protected against jinxes. That was just an idea that came to me because I'm pretty sure that you could probably get optional enhancements on a broom if you paid enough, or at least that's how I think it would work in the real world...you know...if magic was real. Anyway, the next chapter will be focusing on those Harry Potter books that Harry does not like, hope you're all looking forward to it. Thanks for reading and feel free to leave a review.
