Chapter 112: Side Bar - Prologue's Preface: The Truth Behind James Heartfilia
Solana: One of the 'Founding Three', of the ERA based World Republic, had for centuries always been overlooked and taken advantage of by its two larger northern island continents; Ishgar and Alakitasia. And yet since the Fall of the Magic Council and the establishment of the Triumvirate, Solana and its constituent six kingdoms were relishing in the new found power, respect, equality and democracy that they now held due to being a part of said World Republic. A long time ago, the six kingdoms of: Sundari, Macau, Yunnan, Renīn, Oshtae and Solon, had held out hope for equal footing with their northern neighbours; but unfortunately that hope had died when the Magic Council was founded thousands of years ago, and enacted punitive measures to keep the southern continent bound to trade rules that suited Ishgar's constituent kingdoms.
Those punitive laws were either successively withdrawn or hastily redrawn by every Council tat followed the Founding Council. And for centuries successive Councils and Wizard Saints, lauded over a corrupt system whist aligning themselves to the Celestial Dragons in Mariejois. And as time went on Solana just accepted being taken advantage of by its neighbours. Moreover, every hundred years a child would be born with such extraordinary and considerable power, they were hailed as the Supreme Wizard Saint. The mightiest Wizard in the magical word, and the sole person able to wield the Eight Legend Spells.
Whenever, such a child was born, they would be taken in by the council and trained to control their powers and unlock any of the eight, and contrary to popular belief not all the spell could be unlocked by any one person, during the same time period. One wielder may have one, their successor may get three and then next could only get two or unlucky enough to unlock only one. And out of the total of a hundred and fifty four Supreme Wizard Saints, there had only been four of the eight spells ever being unlocked and written about.
They were: the Etherion Cannon; a weapon capable of firing a concentrated burst of pure magic at or onto a target anywhere in the world, Satellite Square; a powerful impenetrable defensive shield, Existential Drain; a spell that drains a wizard of their magic permanently, and Hiroshi's Labyrinth; an inter dimensional prison void.
In Ishgar, the Wizard Saints may have been merely the top magic wielders that the Council put on a list, to show off skill and power, but they were still admired greatly and served as an inspiration to many aspiring wizards that wanted to join Guilds. In Alakitasia, the Saints were derided as "nothing but trash", and couldn't hold a flame to the mights of their own "Magic King" or "Scarlet Despair". The two top Alvarez Wizards were said to be worth the entire Ten Saints combined, yet the supreme wizard saint; whenever one was born into the right time period, was there equal.
Twice had the Alvarez Empire invaded Ishgar, and both times it had been during the Hundred year gap, that had to exist, between successive supreme saints. Ishgar had only scraped through on pure luck; the first War was quelled as unsanctioned and the second was abrupt ended after a threat by the at-the-time Council to unleash "death and destruction", upon the Empire by means of releasing a newly created darkness spell, it 'Pestilence'. And from then on there as a fragile peace, no one wanted to test the waters knowing full well what would happen if they did.
Several centuries passed, and within the era of the year 770, the latest supreme wizard saint was born. James Heartfilia. However, the plan that was created for his training was never put forward as the council was never made aware of his birth, as the boy's parents feared never seeing him again. Jude and Layla Heartfilia kept their son's true power secret for ten years, and as a result he never knew the full extent of his powers; or place in the magical world. Around that time he gained a younger sister, however, one day the boy was kidnapped by slavers when playing with friends around the grounds of the family mansion, his sister alerted the adults but by the time they arrived the slavers were gone; taking with them James Heartfilia and several other children from the local town.
Jude Heartfilia, founder of the Heartfilia Railways; what would be later changed to the Royal East Ishgar Trading Company, immediately called the local branch of ten Council and told them the truth of his sons power, and of his kidnapping but the council refused to believe that a child of ten could be the supreme wizard saint and not be picked up on a magic detector. And so they refused to acknowledge a new saints arrival but they did agree to helping the search effort of the missing children.
The Magic Council, and the wider Ishgaran populace, regarded supreme wizard saints as their ultimate weapon against outside aggression. Yet, the reality behind why such powers existed in the first place were older than EarthLand itself. The Eight Legend Spells were not originally pillars of light, and justice, but were tools of subjugation and war.
Following a failed rebellion, they were stripped from their original host and handed down to human world, through a continuous Inter-Generational Seal. An eternal punishment, through humiliation and suffering, the God of War was cast out of the light, and sealed within countless human bodies. 'Otar the Foul', God of War, or Mars, trapped in a mortal body for all of time; and all for daring to overthrow his brother King Jupiter. As for all of his loyal lesser gods, they were all imprisoned within the 'Void Sphere', which was then buried in the human realm; as the other gods refused to have anything further to do with, as they were called now. As for his generals, the 'Nine Fallen Gods', they were sealed away in a prison deep underground; only accessible by means of 'Divine Teleportation' magic.
And ever since that failed rebellion, the human world was cast into fear. Only in Ishgar was the supreme wizard saint raised, as the Magic Council being allied to Mariejois; didn't want the celestial dragons to gain control of the eight legend spells. A decision that was actually a good one, and repeatedly carried over by ever council that followed the first. Yet, by the time of the Heartfilia boy, the council had begun to become less quick to sense the rise of the next saint. And that would cause them huge embarrassment when James Heartfilia was eventually found but as embarrassing as it was to them, it wasn't as bad as compared to the animosity and rage felt by the ordinary people that had been attacked and hurt, during his absence, by the group of dark wizards that worshiped the Nine Fallen Gods: The Shadow League. The newest supreme wizard saint was heckled and shouted at, for "disappearing" when he was needed.
It was only after he officially joined the legendary Fairy Tail guild as a teenager, and undertook an extremely dangerous mission, and succeeded, that his reputation as the supreme wizard saint began to grow to the level of utter adoration. It was during this mission that he managed to unlock two brand new legend spells, and finally forced the magic council to accept him as second seat, and one day future Chairman. And in James Heartfilia, the continent of Solana found a hero that stood up for the ordinary people; understood suffering, to the best that he could, and was genuine in his wanting to help others; simply with empty platitudes, but a loyalty to justice and the rule of law.
Yet, there were some amongst the magic world that wanted him dead. People in the Alvarez Empire; in order for another hundred year gap between successor, the Five Elder Stars of Mariejois; who feared the overwhelming power of the two newly discovered spells. And the Grandmasters of the Shadow League; who instead wanted to sacrifice him for their idols return. However, the greatest threat that would come was from himself. Enslaved, beaten and tortured by the people that kidnapped him, as a child, his connections to his emotions was permanently warped.
Meaning that it was exceedingly difficult for him to understand the people around him, and the first supreme wizard saint who became a danger to himself. Yet, despite this his sister, other guid mates and childhood friends rallied around him trying to rebuild those damaged emotional pathways; unaware that the Magic Council had begun creating a type of magic that would ultimately lead to its own destruction. As well as light the fires of the Ishgaran Civil War, and the rise of the World Republic's hidden agenda. And now with the supreme wizard saint frozen in a lacrima, the eight legend spells were temporarily no longer bound to him, the god of war was still imprisoned in James Heartfilia's body, but the spells were now free to be inherited by anyone around the world, until the supreme saint reawakened; then all eight spell would be his again.
