SummerSlam: 26/8/2007
SummerSlam was live at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The first match that aired was between Kane and Finlay. Kane controlled the opening minutes of the match, performing a variety of moves including a scoop slam and a big boot. After some back and forth action, Finlay was able to hit Kane with a shillelagh in the ribs. Kane kicked out of the pin attempt and executed a chokeslam, pinning him afterwards for the win.
Next was a Triple Threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship that involved Umaga, Carlito, and Mr. Kennedy. Kennedy attempted to form an alliance with Carlito in the beginning, but Umaga quickly turned the match in his favor. Kennedy and Carlito soon gained the upper hand after Carlito dropkicked Umaga to the outside. Shortly thereafter, Carlito turned on Kennedy and attempted to pin him with a roll-up. After a back and forth match between the three, Umaga regained control and performed a Samoan Spike on Kennedy, which led to Umaga pinning Kennedy for the win and successfully retaining the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The third match was Rey Mysterio versus Chavo Guerrero, which was Mysterio's first match since Guerrero injured his knee in October 2006. Mysterio gained the early advantage when he was able to perform an arm drag and a plancha on Guerrero. Mysterio then performed a low dropkick to Guerrero's left knee, followed by a diving hurricanrana. Towards the end of the match, Guerrero was able to perform a Gory Bomb on Mysterio after Mysterio had missed a crossbody. Mysterio kicked out of the pin attempt and performed a 619 followed by a springboard splash for the pinfall victory.
Next was an Interpromotional Divas Battle Royal involving Beth Phoenix, Melina, Mickie James, Candice Michelle, ans Jillian Hall from RAW, Michelle McCool, Torrie Wilson, Kristal Marshall, and Victoria from SmackDown, and Kelly Kelly, Layla, and Brooke from ECW. Shortly after the match began, Phoenix threw Brooke over the top rope. Soon after, Hall eliminated Candice and Layla was thrown out by Melina. Kristal then eliminated Victoria, but was then thrown over the ropes by James and accidentally knocked off the apron by McCool. Shortly after, Phoenix and Hall eliminated Kelly, and Hall and James began pulling each other over the ropes. Wilson threw Hall out to the floor whilst Melina knocked James off the apron. McCool and Wilson then worked together to eliminate Melina. The two continued their alliance, but Phoenix was able to get the upper hand, first eliminating Wilson, followed by throwing McCool over the ropes to win the match and a future WWE Women's Championship match.
Shortly after the match ended, WWE United States Champion Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) came to the ring and challenged Matt Hardy to a beer drinking contest. Hardy declined and named a replacement, Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin came out and mocked MVP by doing several warm-up exercises similar to those MVP does before a match. As the contest was set to start, Austin delivered a Stone Cold Stunner to MVP and left the ring.
Next on the card was John Morrison versus CM Punk for the ECW Championship. Punk gained early control when he was able to perform a scoop slam as well as a springboard dropkick; however, Morrison was able to counter a shoulder block attempt into a neckbreaker on the ring apron. After Morrison controlled the match for several minutes, Punk was able to put the match back in his favor after performing a diving crossbody followed by an enzuigiri. Morrison, however, countered a Frankensteiner attempt into a pin-cover while using the ropes for leverage. He got the win, thus retaining the ECW Championship.
The sixth match of the event was between the returning Triple H and King Booker, who was accompanied by Queen Sharmell. Triple H gained the early advantage as the match began; however, Booker was able to gain control after performing a low dropkick. Triple H regained control after countering Booker and performing a variety of moves, which included a corner clothesline and a spinebuster. Booker put the match back in his favor after reversing a clothesline attempt into a Book End, which was followed by a sidewalk slam. After Booker missed a diving somersault leg drop, Triple H was able to recover and perform a Pedigree. Triple H pinned Booker afterwards to gain the victory.
The World Heavyweight Championship match between champion The Great Khali and challenger Batista was next. Khali controlled most of the match and performed a variety of moves, which included a brain chop, a big boot, and multiple clotheslines.
Batista won the match after Khali intentionally disqualified himself by hitting him with a steel chair. Since a championship cannot change hands via countout or disqualification, Khali retained the title. Following the match, Khali attempted to hit Batista with another chairshot only for Batista to duck it and spear Khali. Batista would then use the chair to his advantage and hit Khali with it multiple times.
The next match was for the WWE Championship.
Burn in my Light hits to boos and out comes Randy Orton who was determined to become the new WWE Champion tonight and out Bladewolf out for good this time. Orton enters the ring and poses on the turnbuckles before getting down and paces back and fourth as his theme dies down, waiting for his opponent.
OOOOOOWHOOOOOO!
The Devil's Wolf hits to a pop and the lights flash between dark red and dark blue before pyro explodes on the stage at the 0:11 mark of the theme. Out comes the Bladewolf, or rather the Deathwolf as it is now called. Instead of just the face paint, Bladewolf had dawned a new attire for the Demon side of himself. He was wearing a wolf mask that covered his entire head except the eyes and mouth were revealed, and the mask had several holes in it that allowed parts of the long, black hair to be free, which people noticed were styled in dreadlocks.. (AN: Think a Wolf version of Willow's mask)
He wore a black trench coat that had various demonic looking wolves on them, including a big one on the back of the coat. He wore black wrestling tights with a demonic wolf howling while burning in Hellfire on the left pant leg. On the right leg was a burning Undertaker symbol. Underneath the trench coat, he wore a black sleeveless shirt with the same demonic wolf face on the front of it with the words 'The Devil's Wolf' underneath it.
This was the Deathwolf, the much more darker, apter ego of the Bladewolf.
The Deathwolf walks down the ramp towards the ring where a stunned Randy Orton was watching. Never before has he possibly felt as intimidated as he is now but was making sure to not show it. Facing the Undertaker was way scarier but this was on another level.
The Deathwolf enters the ring, staring straight at Randy Orton with blood red eyes. The Deathwolf tilted his head in an almost curious manner before shoving the WWE Championship into the referee's hands, then just sat in the opposite corner of Randy Orton as his theme dies down.
"The following contest is scheduled for One-fall and it is for the WWE Championship!" Lillian Garcia announced and the crowd cheered. "Introducing first, from St. Louis, Missouri, weighing in at 245 lbs...RANDY ORTON!" The crowd boos as Orton raises his arms while keeping eye contact with the Demon Deathwolf.
"And his opponent, weighing 275 lbs, he is the WWE Champion, the Devil's Wolf...THE DEATHWOLF!" Deathwolf does nothing but stare at Orton, he was so still that if freaked Orton out. The referee holds up the title and the Deathwolf now stands up, taking off his trench coat and tossing it carelessly outside, his eyes never turning away from Orton. The referee then calls for the bell to ring.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Orton braces himself for an attack but the Deathwolf just stands there, looking at him. An eerie red light suddenly shines upon the rings causing Orton to look up but this distracts him enough for the Deathwolf to charge and spear him into the corner. Orton groans from the pain before the Deathwolf unleashes furious and almost angry forearms to the back of Orton. The referee tries to get involved but quickly scatters from the ring when the Deathwolf went towards him before sliding back in when Deathwolf turned his attention back to Orton.
Deathwolf delivers a hard stomp to the ribs of Randy Orton, causing Orton to groan and cough before he was grabbed and hit with a suplex. The Deathwolf slapped the mat a few times and laughed like a madman. Deathwolf grabs Orton and drags him into the corner before running from the opposite and drives his knees into Orton's chest. The Deathwolf them grabs Orton around the waist from behind before delivering a German Suplex, sending Orton to the outside.
Orton tries getting away but the Deathwolf was on the hunt. Deathwolf grabs Orton by the hair before relentlessly bouncing his head off the barricade then the steep post before tossing him over the RAW announce table. The Deathwolf releases a mad, cackling laugh as he slaps the announce table a few times before shaking his head, causing his dreadlock hair to fly about.
Orton crawls from behind the announce table but the Deathwolf grabs him then tosses him into the steel steps, shoulder first. Deathwolf relentlessly stomps away on Orton's chest before grabbing Orton and tosses him back into the ring. Deathwolf rolls back in as Orton groans in pain before the Deathwolf delivers an elbow to Orton's chest. The Deathwolf grabs Orton and hits a second German Suplex, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, and then another. Eleven German Suplexes all together.
The Deathwolf laughs and falls to the mat, rolling around and slapping the mat. The guy's not human. The Deathwolf gets to his feet and everyone cannseen a sadistic, demonic grin on his face. The Deathwolf walks towards Orton and lifts him up...BUT ORTON SUDDENLY DELIVERS AN RKO OUT OF NOWHERE!
The crowd cheered and booed a little as Orton sits up and begins getting to his feet...WHEN THE DEATHWOLF GOT RIGHT BACK TO HIS FEET!" Orton looked and was stunned as was everyone else as they've never ween the Demon side of the Bladewolf be like this.
JR and Jerry Lawler were shocked themselves. "JR, That...that's not even human." Jerry stuttered in shock.
"I...I agree with you there, King." JR said, not knowing what to say himself. "The Demon side of the Bladewolf has undergone a new change and became stronger and powerful."
Orton backs away from the Deathwolf before dodging a charge from the Deathwolf. Deathwolf turns around... INTO A SECOND RKO! ORTON GOES FOR THE COVER! ONE! TW-! THE DEATHWOLF IMMEDIATELY KICKED OUT!
Orton couldn't believe how quick of a kick out that was. Orton got to his feet as the Deathwolf began getting to his but Orton quickly delivers a stomp to the back of the Deathwolf, keeping him down. Orton picks Deathwolf up but the WWE Champion suddenly grabs him and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. The Deathwolf gets to his feet as Orton begins recovering and uses the ropes to pull himself up. The two locked up once again but this time Deathwolf slides behind Orton and hits a German Suplex. Deathwolf gets to his feet and grabs Orton from behind only to do another German Suplex, then another, then another, then another, then another. After the sixth he let's go and goes for the cover but Orton kicks out at two.
Deathwolf gets to one knee and hammers away on Orton multiple times before getting to his feet and picks Orton up with him. He Irish whips Orton into the corner before running and hits a turnbuckle clothesline, then pushed Orton to the mat. Deathwolf drags Orton into the center of the ring and raises his right arm, causing the fans to cheer as they know what's about to happen. Orton soon gets to his feet and turns around... BUT IS GRABBED BY THE THROAT! DEATHWOLF LIFTS HIM UP-BUT ORTON DELIVERS A THIRD RKO OUT OF NOWHERE! ORTON GOES FOR THE COVER! ONE! TWO! THRE-! DEATHWOLF KICKS OUT AT TWO!
Orton and Deathwolf laid in the ring for a few seconds before Orton begins getting to his feet. He delivers a stomp to Deathwolf's head before driving his new into Bladewolf's gut, then a right hand to Deathwolf's skull. He picks Deathwolf up and Irish whips him but the WWE Champion reverses it and Orton comes back...INTO A SPINEBUSTER!
The Deathwolf once again laughs sadistically as he grabs Orton and begins hammering away furiously and rapidly at the skull of Orton...UNTIL RANDY ORTON IS BUSTED OPEN! Blood flows from Orton's forehead and onto the mats dripping like a fountain. Orton tries fighting back but the Deathwolf was still hammering and punching away. The referee tried interfering but Deathwolf just knocks him out with a right hand. Deathwolf picks Orton up...BUT ORTON HITS A FOURTH RKO OUT OF NOWHERE!
Orton wipes the blood off his forehead and gets to his feet before backing up into the corner, intending on punting the lights out of this monster. Suddenly that eerie red light returns and remains, causing Orton to look around as the light flickers multiple times before the lighting returns to normal and Orton turns around only to be lifted onto Deathwolf's shoulders... AND HIT WITH A WOLF'S HOWL!
Deathwolf places his hands on Orton's chest and the referee counts. ONE! TWO! THREE! THE DEATHWOLF RETAINS THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Devil's Wolf plays as the Deathwolf gets to his feet. "Here is your winner and STILL WWE Champion... THE DEATHWOLF!" The reign continues into day 272. The Bladewolf has held the WWE Championship for nearly 300 days. Come Unforgiven, Bladewolf will have held the title for 292 days.
The Deathwolf grabs his title and leaves the ring, leaving the referee to check on Randy Orton.
