It was a few days later. Jack and Rose were sitting downstairs one night, just talking. They were talking about their monthly family dinners with Jena, Alex, and Mia; Emma, Ben, Josh, and Rachel; and Daniella and Will. Of course, they all saw each other at other points, but these dinners were when they all got together. "I was thinking, at the family dinner on Friday, we could tell everyone I'm pregnant," said Rose.

Jack smiled. "I think that's a great idea."

"Really?" Rose asked.

"Yeah, you're already three months pregnant, so why not?" Jack said. He looked at her and knew something was bothering her. "What's wrong? Something's bothering you, I can tell."

Rose smiled. Jack could always see right through her. "I'm worried about Daniella. She's still just trying to have one baby. How am I supposed to tell her that not only am I pregnant, but it took absolutely no effort, and it was accidental?"

Jack sighed. "I don't know. I honestly think you should tell her privately. It's the best way."

Rose nodded. "You're right. I'm going to invite her over for coffee tomorrow."

It was the next day, and the kids were already in school. Jack was at home, getting ready for work, when the doorbell rang. "Rose, Daniella's here."

Rose ran downstairs as Jack was opening the door. "Hey, Jack," said Daniella, kissing his cheek. She then did the same with Rose. "Hey, Rose."

"Hi," said Rose. "I'm just going to finish something upstairs. I'll be right back."

Jack smiled. "Would you like some coffee?"

"I would love one, thanks," said Daniella.

Jack was pouring her a cup of coffee when he looked up and saw Daniella smiling awkwardly. He stood there for a moment while she continued to smile, as if she knew something. He put the coffee mug on the counter and crossed his arms. "You know, don't you?"

"Of course I know," said Daniella, as if it was obvious.

"How long have you known?" Jack asked.

"Her boobs were huge two weeks ago and she's eating everything in sight," said Daniella. "But she knows I know."

Jack laughed. "So you know she knows that you know."

"Mm hmm," said Daniella with a nod. "She'll tell me when she's ready to be happy about it."

"You think she's not happy about it?" Jack asked.

"I know she's worried about telling me," said Daniella, as Jack's smile faded. "Congratulations."

Rose returned downstairs. "Sorry about that," she said.

"I better leave for work. I'll see you later," said Jack. He kissed Rose and smiled. "I love you."

"I love you, see you later," said Rose. She then sat on the couch with Daniella. "How's life?"

"Oh, it's good," said Daniella. She smiled and looked at Rose. "What's doing with you?"

"Not much," said Rose. Her mind kept telling her to tell Daniella about the pregnancy, but she kept getting too scared to do it.

Daniella sighed. "Listen, I know."

Rose furrowed her eyebrows. "You know… what?"

"I know you're pregnant," said Daniella.

"Oh," said Rose. She looked down uncomfortably.

Daniella smiled and hugged Rose. "I'm so happy for you, Rose."

"Really?" Rose asked, relieved.

"Of course. You're my best friend. I want you to be happy, and I don't want you to worry about me. I also want you to feel like you can tell me things, regardless of what's happening in my life."

"You're the best," said Rose with a smile. She sighed. "I'm so sorry, Dani."

"Don't be. It'll happen for me. I know it will," said Daniella.

"It will," said Rose, sipping her tea. "How long have you known?"

"Two weeks. I can't believe you waited this long to tell me!"

"We only told the kids last week. No one knows, other than you and the kids. But tomorrow night at the family dinner we were going to tell everyone, and I just… wanted to make sure you're okay, that's all."

"I appreciate that."

Later that night, Jack and Rose were talking. "We should find a cool way to tell them, you know?"

"Yeah, but how?" Jack asked.

"What if… we did the same thing I did for you when I was pregnant with Josie? Do you remember that?"

"Of course. You hid little notes all over the house for me to find," said Jack.

"It's kind of cheesy, but it seemed like a good idea at the time," said Rose.

"No, I loved it," said Jack.

It was the next night. Jack and Rose had set up the papers, and everyone came over.

Once everyone arrived, Jack and Rose sat them all on the couch. "We have a little game set up for you guys," said Rose excitedly.

They found all of the pieces of paper, and put them in order. Rose handed them the last piece and they all gasped and took turns hugging Jack and Rose. "We're so excited," they both said.

It was a few months later. Rose woke up early in the morning, around six o'clock, which was way too early for a weekend morning. Jack had specifically asked her not to, but she decided not to listen. After all, it was their daughter's birthday.

Rose snuck out of bed and set up balloons in the living room. She hid the gifts in a closet, and started to cook. She made pancakes, Josie's favorite breakfast, and cut shapes into them. She put the presents out in the living room and She then checked the clock and saw the time. It was eight thirteen: the exact time Josie was born.

Rose snuck back upstairs and into Josie's room. "Happy birthday, little girl," said Rose.

"Hey," said Josie, as she tiredly rolled over in her bed to make room for Rose. Rose lay down next to Josie, and Josie rested on Rose's shoulder.

"I can't believe how fast you're growing up," Rose whispered. "You're already double digits."

"Really? If feels slow," said Josie.

"No, trust me, it's fast," said Rose. She looked at her daughter, thinking back to her whole childhood. "So what do you think of your life so far?"

"It's good," said Josie. She opened her sapphire blue eyes and looked at Rose. "So do I look older?"

Rose smiled and nodded. "Oh yeah, absolutely." She smiled and kissed Josie's head. "So you know what I think?"

"What?" Josie asked.

"I think you're an amazing kid. The most wonderful, amazing daughter I could have ever asked for."

"Thanks," said Josie. "Tell me about the day I was born."

"Well, when I was pregnant with you, I was sick most of the time, and needed to stay in bed. Your dad took such good care of me, and you, and would always remind me that one day all of the pain would be worth it. And believe me, it was."

"Really?" Josie asked.

"Of course," said Rose. "So finally, I was allowed out of bed, and Dad and I moved into this house. And one day, today actually, We were moving the very last bit of our things, and Dad and I were in a fight."

"Really? What was it about?" Josie asked.

"I don't even remember, but we were both stressed about moving into the house. But while we were yelling at each other, I went into labor. We called the doctor, and then you were born. And that was one of the happiest days of my life."

"Really?" Josie asked with a smile.

"Yeah," said Rose. "And you were the most beautiful baby. We loved you so much then, and we still love you just as much, maybe even more."

"I love you, Mom," said Josie.

"I love you too, my sweetest girl," said Rose. "I'll let you sleep. Come downstairs whenever you're ready."

Rose went downstairs to find Jack standing in the kitchen holding a cup of coffee. "I knew you couldn't resist waking up early," he said with a smile. "But what I don't understand is how you got the pancakes to be shaped like hearts."

"A magician never reveals her secrets," said Rose. She kissed him lovingly and smiled. "Hmmmmm."

"What?" Jack asked.

"Whenever I kiss you in the morning I can taste your coffee. It almost makes up for the fact that I can't drink any."

Jack put down the coffee and kissed her again. They separated, and Jack put his hands on Rose's swollen belly. She was already six months pregnant. "The baby hungry?"

"Famished," said Rose with a smile. "But I want to wait for breakfast with Josie."

Suddenly Myles came downstairs. "Good morning," said Myles.

"Good morning, darling," said Rose. "Do you want a glass of milk?"

"Yes please," said Myles, and Rose poured him a glass of milk. "I made a card for Josie."

"You did? That's so sweet of you," said Rose.

Finally, Josie and Maddie woke up and came downstairs. "Alright, how about you guys wait at the table, and Mommy and I will bring breakfast over?" Jack said.

The three kids went over to the table, as Jack began carrying the food over. Rose was standing in the kitchen with Josie's pancakes. She put a candle in it and lit it. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to Josie, happy birthday to you!" they all sang.

Josie smiled as Rose put the pancakes in front of her. "Make a wish," said Rose. Josie looked down at the candle and made a wish before blowing it out.

"Happy birthday, Josie," said Jack. "We love you."

It was a few days later. Jack and Rose were asleep when slowly, Josie opened their bedroom door. She walked to Jack's side (she didn't want to wake her mother, who was six months pregnant) and took his hand. "Dad?"

Jack suddenly woke up and was surprised to see Josie standing beside the bed. Josie was ten, and she hardly woke up in the middle of the night anymore. "Josie, what's wrong?"

"I don't feel well," she whispered. "I feel like I'm going to throw up."

"Come here, sweetheart," said Jack. He slowly climbed out of bed (he was still half asleep, after all), and they walked to the bathroom.

Josie put down the toilet cover and sat down. "My stomach hurts, and I'm freezing," she said, hugging herself for warmth.

"Here," said Jack, shrugging off his sweatshirt and putting it over Josie's shoulders. "Do you want to skip school and dance tomorrow?" Jack knew Josie never complained about not feeling well, but he also knew that was the trick to finding out how sick Josie was. She never wanted to miss dance.

"I'll still go to school and dance unless I throw up," said Josie. "I don't want to miss dance."

"Okay, sweetheart," said Jack. "Can I walk you back to bed?"

Josie nodded and Jack walked her back to her room. He tucked her in and whispered good night. "Thanks, Dad."

"If you need anything else, just come get me, okay?" Jack said, stroking his daughter's head.

"I will," said Josie. "Good night."

It was the next day. Josie was at dance, while Rose was watching from the gallery, and Jack was at home with the twins.

Rose was nervously watching Josie dance, knowing how sick she felt. She kept debating pulling Josie out of the studio, since she knew Josie would just try to push through.

"What's wrong with Josie?" Another mother at the studio asked.

"She doesn't feel well," said Rose. She looked back at Josie. "Oh no, she's crying." Rose quickly stood up and went downstairs to find Josie running to the bathroom.

"Mom!" Josie said while still sobbing.

"Come on, let's go to the bathroom," she said, taking Josie's hand. Rose sat her down and wiped her tears with a tissue. "Shhhh, try to calm down. Crying is only going to make it worse."

"Mom, I want to go home," said Josie, still crying.

"You want to go home? You never miss dance, Josie!" Rose was now seriously worried about Josie. She sighed. "Are you sure you want to leave?"

Josie nodded. "I really don't feel well, Mom," she said.

"Okay, darling," said Rose, kissing her cheek. "Let's go home."

Finally they went home, and Josie went straight up to bed. Rose went to find Jack, who was sitting in the living room.

Rose loved walking into her house. Somehow, even with three kids, it was always tidy, and it just always greeted her when she walked in the door. Jack would either be with the children in the living room or the kitchen, the fireplace would be lit, and there would be a fresh vase of flowers on the dining room table.

"Hi sweetheart," said Jack, kissing Rose. "What's going on with Josie?"

"I really don't know. She was in dance and she told me she wanted to leave. She never wants to leave, Jack." Rose laid down on the couch and put her feet up.

"I'm sure she's fine, Rose. Kids get sick, and they bounce back," said Jack.

"I'm sure you're right, but consider this: the last time Josie was sick like this, she needed surgery." Jack frowned; he didn't have a response for that one. Rose nodded. "I'm checking on her."

Rose quickly went upstairs and knocked on Josie's door. "Come in," said Josie, and Rose entered.

"What do you feel? Are you just nauseous?" Rose asked, sitting on Josie's bed.

"I don't know. My stomach hurts, and I'm nauseous, and I'm always cold," said Josie.

Rose felt her forehead. "I think you might have a fever. I'm getting the thermometer." She put the thermometer into Josie's mouth and waited, then took the thermometer. "Okay, you have a fever. I'm getting you some medicine."

Rose ran downstairs. "Well?" Jack asked.

"Fever," said Rose, as she went to the bathroom to get her medicine.

"Wait, Rose," Jack called, running after her.

"What, what is it?" Rose asked, clearly distracted.

Jack put his arms around her. "I'll take care of Josie. The last thing you need right now is to get whatever she has."

"She's my daughter. I can't just stop taking care of her," said Rose, crossing her arms.

Jack sighed. "I don't expect you to stop taking care of her. I just want you to let me get sick instead of you."

"Do you realize how awful it looks from Josie's perspective if I just… leave when she gets sick? When she needs me?"

"Rose, Josie knows you're pregnant! She knows that it wouldn't be smart to expose you to whatever she has, and if she doesn't, I'll explain it to her," said Jack, raising his voice.

"I'm supposed to put her first. I'm supposed to put her health before my own. I'm not supposed to care about my pregnancy if she's sick!"

"Okay, this is ridiculous," said Jack, taking the medicine out of her hands and walking away. "You're not going near her."

"Jack!" Rose yelled back at him. "You're forbidding me from seeing my daughter? How dare you!"

Jack turned around. "It's for your own good."

"It's for my own good? You do this every time I'm pregnant. When I was pregnant with Josie and I was on bedrest, and then when I was pregnant with the twins? You would just say, 'don't worry, I'll take care of everything'."

"What did you expect me to do? Leave you? I had no choice! You were put on bedrest and I had to take care of everything!" Jack yelled. "I don't want to tell you what to do, believe me. But you have to see that this is for your own good."

"And what about Josie's own good? What about what Josie needs?" Rose yelled. "She's my daughter. She needs her mother."

"She's my daughter too," said Jack, and he stormed away.
