It was raining in the city, the last few days actually. It was mild with some wind to add the chill. You wouldn't mind something warm right, apple cider or a drink from Lucky Cafe. Particularly cinnamon hot cocoa or decaf matcha latte. The warm thought emerged a tiny forlorn smile that quickly fell.
Going to the Cafe...that just sounded...
"I do not have time for idle thoughts," you Reprimandly mutter to yourself, focus back to reading.
Since it was a day to stay in you decided to pass these last couple of days with archive reading ranging from about a few years back to present. And what you found was interesting, especially a particular person of interest. Who thanks to them, told to you by a certain tall superhero loving blonde, you too where also rescued from that...cold place.
Curiosity bit you, so you brought them up and read more on them. A bit surprised where they used to work and their occupation. Then again didn't Fred tell you that too?
"Fred, I wonder how he might know," you ponder tapping a finger to your chin lightly. Sit back on your bed, cast your eyes to the window watch the droplets of rain stain it. An ideal formed in your mind. The moment it did a tightness suddenly sunk in your chest, quickly you dismiss it and firmly stay with the plan.
"Mr. Jimmy!" You call quickly hop out of bed and out the room. "Please prep the oven, I feel in the mood to make something sweet!"
After two hours you dress yourself and have James drive you to where you needed to go. Sitting in the back seat of the dark tinted window car, rest your hands on the two medium size containers sat in your lap. Your mind was racing, you hope this would work. It had to.
You just had to make sure to put on certain airs and present this to them. There was not much doubt in your mind, you played the scenario over in your mind. While also calculating the probability of going into your favor while also if...say any outside source should interfere. Though if there was a chance they weren't present then you had that covered as well.
Your was racing, taking a deep breathe close your eyes and count down. A trick taught to you by Splinter.
"It will be okay," you tell yourself quietly over and over. Pushing down the haunting feeling. It was okay...it wasn't wrong...no it wasn't.
Right?
"Miss," Jimmy voice brings you back, he parked, "we have arrived."
You grip the containers tightly for a moment, look down at your feet. Your heart pounded in a twisting way. It was okay, you told yourself. This the logical thing to do, it wasn't wrong or anything. It was right, it was justifiable.
Yeah, it was.
Lifting your eyes back up, look straight ahead put a on a smile, open the door and walk out. Opening your dark red umbrella glacé at the stairs for a moment. Deeply inhale step a sharp black heeled boot forward, climb the stairs. Nothing but the sound rain and clicking of your heels was heard. For some reason it felt there where more stairs than usual.
Which was strange, eventually you reached the top and front door. Without a second though you ring the doorbell. Stepping back you smooth your dark maroon coat out and adjust yourself, holding the containers.
Within a minute the door is answered.
And you smile politely with sweetness, "Hello, Mr. Heathcliff, is Fred home?"
The refined man's eyes widen just a bit, nevertheless he steps aside and let you in. Immediately he took your coat and umbrella.
The mansion was the right amount of toasty, the chill melted right off. So many memories came back you almost became distracted. But quickly bring yourself back.
"How are you, Heathcliff?"
"Well, madam. Please, this way." He escorts you.
You follow. Doing your best to block out the memories, held your head straight and kept yourself focus.
Arriving at Fred's room, you hold breath the second Heathcliff knocked twice and opened the door. He walked in and you stood back.
Frozen.
Quickly you went over why you where here and what to say. It all came so fast you nearly became winded.
"My calling card worked! May! You're here!" Fred cried thrilled, rushing over with outstretched arms that grabbed you by the wrist and snatched you inside.
It happen so fast you found yourself plopped on the couch in a spinning daze for a moment. With Fred next to rambling on. You where trying to catch your mind back.
"This is so awesome! We've got so much to talk about! First though," he sprung up from his spot. "We've got a lot of ground to cover of comics!"
You plaster a stiff smile and nod. He quickly gets up and leaves for a moment in his room, you hear rustling, banding, crashing and a bit of grunting. Leaning forward a bit rise a brow trying to see while keeping your impatience down, grip the containers a bit. Fred comes back with stack of comics and other things that towered over him, he managed to drop them perfectly before you. You jumped back a bit.
He laughed plopping down next to you holding two comics, one which he held out to you. "Okay, so the first one we'll be reading is Sliderman, issue # 4." He began, opening it. You set the comic aside. Luckily he didn't notice. "You've missed the last two issues, which is okay. I have those, made sure I bought double just in case you come. Okay, so let me-"
"Fred," you clear your throat trying to get hiss attention.
"-Start, Sliderman has just uncovered-"
"Fred."
He swept a hand at you, "-Hold on, let me get you caught up. So, as I was saying, Sliderman has just uncovered his nemesis Seament plan, which is-"
"Fred, I have-"
"You've got to listen, okay? So, after finding out-what!" He paused suddenly, staring straight ahead with an unreadable look, that left you confused. He remained like that for quite awhile.
You began to feel nervous and tentatively called to him. "Fred? Frederick, are you...are okay?" Slowly you reach out to him.
"I can't believe it!" He outburst suddenly springing up, startling you that you threw a hand over your heart. To catch yourself. A huge smile spread on Fred's face you thought it break it. An exciting gleam shone in his eyes, looking at you. "I total forgot!"
You weren't sure what he meant and tried to ask, scooting back with him so close. But he spoke before you did and what he said made you react faster than GoGo love speed you nearly broke composer. Fred stuck a hand deep in his pocket and pulled out his phone.
"I've got call the guys. They'll be so happy to-"
"No!" you nearly panic, spring up from your seat, and nearly snatch the phone away. Instead cover it with your hand, adding pressure. Preventing him from even making the call. Your hand was shaking a little, you hoped he wouldn't notice. Taking a breath slowly breathe out, quickly collect yourself and let him go. Slowly. Lift your head and eyes to him. Find him staring back shocked. Thinking quickly smile sweetly and hold up the containers. "Cookies?"
His eyes and expression back to his normal one. "Yes!" He snatched the containers, opening the first one and stuffed five in his mouth, plopped back down. "These are so, so, good."
Graciously and slowly you sit back down, still with your smile on. "I am glad. Please forgive me for my...umm...my..."you couldn't think of the right word.
He swallowed the mouth of the cookies. Stuffed a few more in his mouth. Talking with them. It was almost hard to make out. "It's good...I mean...these are good...'he swallowed. Burping. You kept the smile on. "I told them I'd let them know if I ran into you. Since you would leave treats back at the lab."
Your heart sunk a bit. Recalling a bit. "-Oh...Oh."
"Last time I missed you, so, I can't mess up again."
He said with determination, as if was some sort of mission. It was hard not laugh a little inside. But you kept your focus. "I understand that, but, I would appreciate it if you did not. I came here to see you and deliver these treats to you."
"Aww, I told the others you missed us!" He tosses two more cookies in his mouth.
You move a bit in your seat. "Yes, yes. But, I miss you much more, Fred. Which is why," you pause for a moment, lay a hand on his shoulder patting it a bit. "I believe if you tell the others I came to see you. Seeing how you are special, to me, it would only make the feeling of jealousy in them rise and we could not have that. For jealousy can cause a person, even the noblest to...ummm..."
He gasped. "To turn evil! The bitterness will eat their souls to the core if they allowed their jealously to consume them. So we've got to spare them from such a fate, for one bad emotion can turn everything! It just take one bad emotion!" He said dramatically. Making the zipping lips gesture. "I can't have that, don't worry I won't a thing."
You glad to hear that, smile pleased. "Good, good. I am glad." You say in a cool, tempered tone. Sit back calmly. Fold your hand in your lap. Sit up straight. "Fred, I was wondering something. With you being a superhero, a very good one. The best even."
A proud smile spread across him. You kept going. "I personally believe so, and since you are a professional superhero, is there by any chance from what my memory can recall. Heroes such as yourself have information on your past escapades. Correct?"
"Yeah, I keep a log on everything we do."
Perfect.
"Wonderful! I thought as much, is there by any chance, I could look some of them over?"
"Well," he scratched his chin a bit. Thinking about it. "I mean I don't mind and stuff. It's just well...I'm a superhero and stuff. Like the guys and I, you're...not saying you can't be one, but that's more classified...and.." he began rubbing the back of his neck. Shifting his eyes around the room. "I can't...really let you look at them."
You huff inside, drop a long sadden frown outside. Lower your eyes to the floor, lowering your voice. "I..I see..which I completely understand. It's just.."your voice cracked a little. "...something...there's been something on my mind and I just thought maybe..with the information you might have could help me. Also," you clear your throat a bit. Lift your eyes back up, quickly look around keeping your voice low, gesture to him to come close and whisper. "I have a secret I wanted to let you know, but you...you have to promise not to tell anyone else. Okay?"
Fred became elated, he was squealing nearly jumping out his seat. This was going to work perfect. "..Before I tell you," you began, "there's something else I want ask, it's about your new hero suit. Again, don't tell anyone, alright?"
"Yeah, yeah. I promise what is it?" he pressured giggling, leaning in, so you tell him and he nearly popped a top. "I'll totally show you! Come on!" He leaped up, snatcing you by the wrist and hurried away.
With the information Fred gave and what you learned as well needed, you leave his mansion happy and content as well with some more information and new upgrade you knew would come in handy. Before leaving you had Fred promise not to say anything to the others, thanking him, and that you would keep in touch. Heathcliff walked you out, you bid a farewell. He did same watching you scale down the stairs all the way to the car, Jimmy stepped out opening the door. Heathcliff for a moment looked at the butler and closed the door.
Once in the car, Jimmy went to the front, starting up the car and drove off. "How was it, Miss?"
You bend down and take out the suitcase under the seat, opening it lay out what you had along with some tools, began working. "Well," you respond, "very well. I was able to get some needed information and more. There," you finish what you where working on, Jimmy understood and pressed a button rolling up the window divider. Once it was up you began to change, slipping on skin tight sleeveless hooded tunic top over white leggings. With white opera gloves all the way to your elbows, a long white sash around your waist giving the illusion of two tails, and flats. The last thing you added, your white vizor mask mirroring a fox over your face. Pressing the side of it adjust the optical vision to night vision.
Jimmy comes to a stop. "Please, Miss do be home soon, in weather like this it is best to remain inside." He pleaded.
You smile kindly to him, opening the door. "I will. It shouldn't take me long, I just a few questions to ask that can only be answered by them. I will see you when I return."
With nothing else to say, you slip out and leave. Keeping fingers crossed you hoped this would work, after looking over Fred's costume, all you had to do was a few tweaks really. Bring a hand up, turn the small round knob on the back of your hand, your outfit flickered a bit after the fifth flicker you vanished.
Sitting in his cell, Professor Callaghan submerged himself in his thoughts and penance, felt a presence outside the cell. Looked up seeing no one, narrowing his eyes a bit, you suddenly became visible with an expressionless face. Surprising the man a bit. Though he wasn't taken by your appearance.
"Who are you? What do you want?" he demanded more than ask.
This was the man...he didn't seem like much. Either way he had the information you could use, your heart was pounding like crazy inside, but you remain calm activating the claws on your gloves take a few steps forward. Stop about a foot away and point a demanding finger.
