Supergirl: Midvale High
Chapter 35 Suits
It had been a couple of months since I published my first article for the Daily Planet. Clark continued to be overbearing but had grown to accept that Mon El was saving people now. But I feel like I'm in Clark's shadow and so does Mon El, he can't be the superhero he wants to be and I have been thinking of starting to use my own powers to save people as well. I'm sure that Mon El and I would work perfect together. I do want to stick around since a month and half-ago Clark and Lois announced they are expecting. I can't believe my cousin is going have his own super-baby.
It's Sunday, that means I have the day off so Mon El and I have decided that we are going over to the college campus to see Winn. We arrived at Winn's campus dormitory door; we knocked on the door and it swung open to reveal Winn with a toothbrush hanging out of his month and his hair sticking up at all different angles.
"Hi guys, what you doing here? Aren't you a bit early?" Winn asked spitting toothpaste at us.
"Hello to you too, you do know that's it twelve o'clock right?" I laughed.
"Yeah I know," Winn yawned loudly. "I wasn't expecting you for another couple of hours."
"…And people call me lazy," Mon El joked.
"It's a Sunday," he shrugged. "It's supposed to be a day of rest."
"If you say so," Mon El commented.
"Well don't just stand there, come on inside," Winn waved us in. "Make yourselves at home."
You could definitely tell that a guy lived in here by himself, it wasn't the cleanest, there was clothes all over.
"I would offer you food and drink but I don't think I have any, there is water in the tap," Winn said going into his bathroom to finish brushing his teeth.
"You need a girlfriend who can keep you alive," I pointed out.
"Believe me I have tried, no one is interested," Winn huffed as he came back out the bathroom throwing himself on the sofa.
"What about that alien girl in your class that you were telling me about?" Mon El inquired. "Mira was it?"
"Lyra," Winn corrected. "We've hung out a few times but I'm not sure if she's interested in anything. Did you know she has a brother? Yeah, he's in high school at the moment and wants to come here next year."
"You should invite her over to meet everyone sometime," I told him.
"Maybe," he conceded. "So how have you two been?"
"Great," Mon El replied. "Clark has been a bit off lately since he found out I'm a hero now too but I'm sure he'll get over it."
More like Lois will make him get over it I thought with a shake of my head. I looked around the room at the mess and couldn't help but be grateful that Mon El had actually cleaned our own place because honestly I was surprised that we could actually move in here without having resort to flying. That's when I spotted them, a dozen or so papers sitting on the table.
"Hey is that…" I trailed off as I looked over the pictures.
On the paper were dozens of drawings, each one of a different costume resembling my cousin's suit complete with my family crest on the front. Some looks decent while others looked like they were designed attract a different kind of attention than one would normally associate with a hero.
"What are these ?" I asked Winn.
"….Ahhh those," Winn stuttered he looked nervous. "They are designs I drew in case you had ever asked for a suit."
"This one I would never be caught dead wearing," I said pointing to a design that I wouldn't even wear to the beach. It was a two piece that would not cover much.
"I don't know I quite like it," Mon El winked earning a slap to the arm for his comment.
"You would, I don't think other people would," I shot back.
"I have made some just so you could see what they are like," Winn piped up getting a shocked look from me.
"Really where?" I asked rather excited all of a sudden. Winn got up and came back a couple minutes with a pile. I looked though all the designs were there.
"Well I'm not even trying this one on," I said picking out the two piece and throwing it on the sofa.
"I'm sure it could go home with us and you can try it on there," Mon El remarked.
"You're a pig," I told him.
"I love you too," he downright beamed a smile at me.
"Hate you more," I shot back.
"Before you go off on one of your little charades—again—Mike, I've also got some new designs for your suit. Here," Winn spoke up and set down some more papers with drawings on them.
"But I already have a suit," Mon El said confused.
"Yeah and it's awesome but it my as well be a biker outfit I slapped together in comparison to this lot," Winn reasoned.
"Well I could do with a better suit," Mon El nodded in understanding. "Thanks Winn."
"Anytime," Winn spoke.
While the boys were talking I'd slipped away behind the curtain at the back of the room and undressed. I slipped on what I considered to be the best of the suits that Winn had made and walked back out a few seconds later. Super speed was great for getting changed; Rao I loved my powers at times like these.
"Well?" I asked the question. "How do I look?"
It was a simple one piece blue suit with a long red skirt that went passed the knees kind of like a female knight from the middle ages here on Earth. Practical and pragmatic it would offer a bit of protection if it was plated—not that I really needed extra protection considering my powers—but I didn't personally like it.
"Like a queen," Mon El answered honestly.
"I think the skirt is too long," I told them. "It'll mess up my aerodynamics when I'm flying around," in other words I would fly off course and likely crash. "And what about a cape?"
"Winn?" Mon El asked turning towards him.
"I'll work on it," Winn promised.
We spent the next couple of hours just talking and eating takeaway before Mon El and I left. When we got back to the apartment there was a note on the counter top from Alex and Maggie to say that they were out on date not to wait up.
"So what did you think of Winn making suits for you?" Mon El asked.
"I think it's great, it made me think more of being a superhero," I answered. We were now sat cuddled up watch a random show on the television.
"…But?" Mon El asked.
"You saw the way Clark went on when he found out it was you that was behind the helmet," I explained.
"To me Clark seems more envious of me," Mon El spoke. I raised my eyebrow confused. "Clark's not used to having to work as a team plus I'm young."
"Yeah I suppose," I mumbled. I didn't know what to think. "If I was to become a superhero I couldn't do it here."
"You sound like you have thought this through," Mon El said.
"Would it be bad if I said I had?" I asked unsure of myself.
"No of course not," Mon El smiled hugging me. "But where would we go"
"We?" I asked.
"Anywhere you go I go," Mon El spoke. "But what about your job?"
"There is National City, there is a company there called Catco," I told him. "It's a media company owned by someone that worked at the Daily Planet, Cat Grant."
"You have done your research," Mon El laughed.
"I have, I want to be prepared for anything," I said.
"We will see how it goes," Mon El smiled before quickly kissing me and reaching over the couch for something. "Go try that on for me," I looked at what he handed me, it was the suit from Winn's, I thought he had left it.
"Really?" I asked. Mon El just smiled and nodded. I huffed and got up.
I knew I wouldn't be wearing it long.
