Words Aren't Enough

Chapter 45

Later on that day

With Lydia and Benjamin out of the house over at Karen's. And Astrid staying late at school looking into different clubs she could possibly join. It gave Lucas and I the chance to have a heart to heart talk with Jamie alone. Which is something he's been needing for some time and neither of us noticed that. And this is something we need to be more aware of really investing time into the kids making sure they are doing as well as they claim.

Hearing the front door open and close Jamie slammed the door shut and made his way towards the staircase.

"Jamie could you come over and sit down with us. We need to talk to you." Brooke said.

"I have homework to do. Can we talk later or tommorow.?" The young boy requested. Walking from the entryway towards where his aunt and uncle stood.

"No we need to speak with you right now. We met with Ms. Maddie today. She told us that you were getting letters from you're grandpa Dan and that may be the reason why you've been acting the way you are." Lucas said.

The expression on Brooke's face softened. Given all the boy had endured in his early childhood. It was easy to overlook that at the end of the day Jamie was just a boy. Mourning for the parents and family he once had.

"You should of come to us and told us what was going on. We understand why you didn't though. For so long. It was one thing after another. You're dad's death then you're mom. Finding out it was because of the grandparents you loved that you're parents were gone. We can't begin to know how difficult it's been losing them. But you need to know. That it doesn' t matter what he said in those letters. We are you're family. Nothing and no one will take you away from us. I promise." Brooke said.

"You're mom and dad would want you to live life and be happy. They would of done anything to protect you and you're sister. That job is on us now and we will not fail them them." Lucas said.

The hardened expression on Jamie's face began to fall.

"Grandpa Dan said he would get out prison one day soon. And he would gain access to me and Lydia. That he and grandma Deb were our true family. He doesn't care what paperwork says. He's Dan Scott and the rules don't apply to him." Jamie admitted.

Brooke felt her heart break. Seeing how the words left the boy visibly shaken.

"He is not above the law. You're mother entrusted us to care for you and Lydia and that is what we are going to make sure happens. Please try to let this go and move on. He won't come near either of you. We will gurantee that." Brooke said.

"You wash you're hands. We'll get a snack ready for you in the kitchen then afterwards we'll work on that homework together." Lucas said.

Jamie nodded his head in agreement. Ran towards them engulfing them in a hug.

The couple hugged him back tightly. Before letting him go from their grasp. They watched as he left the living room and went up the stairs.

...

Brooke took a deep breath and looked to her husband.

"I think he really heard us and is going to be okay." Lucas said.

"I hope so. He's going to continue to see Ms. Maddie. They are good for each other. Dan is safer behind bars. If it wasn't for that. There would be nothing to stop me from killing him myself. When does it end Luke.? Dan has taken so much from Jamie and Lydia. Jamie is haunted, and hurt. Lydia doesn't remember her parents at all. I think it's time we go see him and put an end to this once and for all." Brooke said.

"I do too. He put himself in prison by his actions. Jamie and Lydia will no longer suffer because of it. He took from you. It's okay to voice that. To express you're grief for them. You know that." Lucas said.

Brooke looked back at him. Tears welling up in her eyes.

"I miss them. They were more then just my friends. They were my family. I cannot let their deaths be for nothing." She said. The emotion in her voice thick.

Lucas wrapped his arms around her. "He doesn't stand a chance against us." He said.
