Moonpriestess30: I chose that song as I liked the film version, Heard it when i was younger (showing my age) I really like the film version it's a little more soft which is the way imagined Katza singing it.

Chapter 42 – Honesty

Do I? That's a good fucking question. Is it my hormones? Inner wolf or just Isabela rubbing off on me? She thought to herself in the few seconds that she had before any answer she gave would be too awkward. Searching back through her mind she was pretty sure that she always had an attraction to him, even when she kinda hated him. He had helped her in the early days as well, training her, taking her to Merrill's and walking her home when he didn't have to and she was pretty sure he didn't want to. It wasn't just her imprint... though she should tell him about that and the whole mate thing... she breathed in deeply and held up a hand. 'Before I answer that, there's a couple things that I have to tell you,' she says feeling the ice of dread begin to clutch at her chest. 'It's about my whole wolf thing,' she warns.

Fenris tilts his head and nods as he sits down at the base of a tree, Makatza sits near him and exhales with a large sigh. 'That was a turn in conversation, you do that often,' he comments, amused more than anything. Nothing was ever simple with this woman. He was sure if he had pursued any other woman they wouldn't be dancing around the subject for quite so long.

She fiddles with her thumbs, 'I...I met a spirit called Wither Fang, she is the lady of the Forest.. the same spirit that the Warden released. When I siphoned the forest, I took some of her essence which caused the wolf thing. You were all looking for me while I was in her realm, she told me what I had done and what it meant. I literally have more canine dispositions now like the need for a pack and hierarchy... what I'm trying to say is that apparently my wolf side considers herself as an Alpha like Varric prattled on about. Bubble was teasing me about mating for a reason... it's because in canine terms... you are …. well... the Alpha,' she said her face going bright red. She started to speak quickly, 'so when Varric mentioned this there was this feeling inside me that sort of clicked and my inner wolf made the decision that you are now her mate and Bubble was going on about how Sebastian would have to fight you in order to earn the right to mate with me, and oh my god I am only just hearing what this sounds like! Dear god I'm sorry!' She shot to her feet spinning around to cover her face. Fenris sat stunned, he was pretty sure that she hadn't breathed throughout the entirety of the telling. 'What I'm trying to say is that I've imprinted on you because of this stupid wolf thing and I'm having trouble trying to figure out if this is what I want or if it's my infuriating wolf side complicating things,' she says into her hands.

He got up and turned her around, reluctant though she was, 'Makatza,' he said simply as he had to pry her fingers from her face. 'Your magic... it is different from normal,' he says not really knowing where he was going with this. She looked at him with incredibly pink cheeks and flushed lips, the sight of her wasn't helping his resolve. 'I have felt a... pull towards you. For a while. I have tried to ignore it, even so far as trying to create distance between us. I think you know as well as I do that it has not worked. Whatever is going on, it is not because of the wolf, this was before you had your accident with that mirror,' he says quietly.

'You're not angry?' She mumbles. 'I mean... my wolf has literally targeted you for... um, stuff,' she says trying not to hiccup in nerves.

'Stuff?' He repeats still holding her hands. 'Do you care to elaborate?' Fenris teases.

'Nope. Stuff,' she giggles, shaking her head. 'Just stuff, until I know more.'

Fenris bites his lip and makes Makatza's inner wolf howl in desire and she has to threaten her hormones with eternal damnation should they even think to reacting to it. 'Are you... would you... want to be with Sebastian?' He asks tentatively.

Makatza laughs and claps her hand over her mouth. 'I'm sorry! I wasn't expecting you to ask that!' She explained. 'Um, no. There isn't anything between Seb and myself. He's so sweet and lovely, handsome and caring but I just don't feel... that way towards him. Believe me, this situation would be a lot easier if I did. Simple almost but no, I have to complicate things by being attracted to an elf that literally hates mages and has-'

'Attracted to me?' Fenris asks, he was already a little aware but it's different hearing it from her. He had mentally skipped past the bit where she was talking about Sebastian having to fight him for her, he didn't want to dwell on that for the moment.

Makatza gave him a look, 'I think I'm long past denying that. I act like a teenager enough without really taking the piss,' she smiles wishing her blush would fuck off. She breathed in deeply and brushed her clothing down, 'look, fact is. I'm attracted to you, my wolf side has chosen you for... stuff. We can ignore her for the moment, she doesn't really have a say in this as she's only been around for a couple days. I am not interested in Sebastian though I have yet to talk to him about what happened at my birthday, not looking forward to that to be honest. My father probably hates you but I think that's normal? So there, those are the cards on the table and uh... the rest is up to you? I mean, you're the one with the whole mage issue and your past and I don't want to like-'

'Katza,' Fenris said holding up a hand and almost instantly shushing her. He moved closer and took her hand in his and felt her heart beat skip as their skin touched, 'simply be,' he says softly as he brushes her hair out her eyes picking a flower that was falling and tucking it behind her ear. 'You have no idea how much you tempt me,' he murmurs as he wraps an arm around her waist, their hands still clasped together.

Makatza couldn't help but whisper back to him as their foreheads touch, 'tempting am I?'

Fenris chuckles as a slight breeze weaves around them making goosebumps appear along her skin, 'would a kiss be just a kiss?' He asks as she tilts her head up her eyes meeting his. The warmth from his body ran down her chest as she rested her arm against his, her hand resting on the top of his shoulder. She could smell the Tevinter spices that seemed to cling to him and the Dalish clothing was soft against her, his eyes were a deep green capturing her in this moment.

'With you? No,' she said barely moving her lips as she stared at him. Slowly he let her hand go and wound it into her hair as he pulled her close savouring the moment until their lips met. It was soft and tentative, a gentle caress that promised more.

'Makatza!' A voice bellowed from afar, she jumped and the spell was broken.

'God damn it!' Makatza swore as she felt Fenris pull away, he didn't really want an audience for this and it seemed to keep happening. She growled deeply and turned to see who had interrupted them, it was only a minute later when her father appeared. 'Father?' She asked in question. 'What's the matter?'

'Ya had vanished, I worried,' he said completely unapologetic to the moment of intimacy that he had disturbed, the glare that he gave Fenris spoke volumes. 'Come, tis almost time fer the last dance. I wan' ta spend it with ya,' he says holding out his hand.

Makatza mentally screams in annoyance, what is it with my family? First Garrett and now my father! You can't keep sending me mixed messages universe! The wolf says yes but my family no? Go fuck yourself! She plasters a fake smile on her face. 'Of course. I'll be there in a moment, I just want to say goodnight, I'll meet you there,' she says firmly. Silvanus looked like he was going to argue but nods as he steps away. Makatza turned back to Fenris who was doing his usual impression of stone. 'Again... interrupted,' she says with a forced chuckle.

'Another time,' he says trying to resist the urge to punch her smug father in the face. 'Till then,' he says softly, his heart thumped heavily and hard in his chest. The brief moment that their lips had touched was igniting and he wanted more, so much more.

'I'll see you in the morning,' Makatza said softly as she stood on tip toes and gently kissed him on the cheek lingering softly before pulling away. He nods and bids her goodnight before she leaves, Makatza wrapped her arms around herself as she made her way back to camp. So close and yet again nothing. At least this time it wasn't an accidental kiss. She had to force herself to be happy when she met back up with her father, she knew that he had interrupted them on purpose and while she couldn't blame him, she didn't particularly like him right now. They danced until the the fire started to die and only then did they sit down outside Makatza's tent. They spoke about fond memories and she told him about parts of her childhood and the moments in her past that seemed to define her. 'Tell me about how you met mother,' she asks softly as she lies on her side looking at him, the dancing had improved her mood some but she was still feeling a little sour.

'Ah, are ya sure? Yer mother wasn't kind ta me at first,' he laughs. Makatza nods enthusiastically and props herself up on her elbow. 'Okay, okay, so I thought twas a normal day,' he says as he begins...

Silvanus walked low through the forest, it was a bright and sunny day in the middle of summer. The trees were alive with the sound of birdsong and the air was heavy with the perfume of flowers and glittering of pollen. He stepped soundlessly through the brush towards one of the traps that he had set earlier that week, he could hear a little movement and so not to disturb the caught animal he crouched down and knocked an arrow to his bow, a smooth swift kill would be the best. He breathed in deeply and moved forward through the bush to strike, he let loose of the arrow and swore jerking his arm to the side as he saw and realised that he hadn't actually trapped an animal. The young woman screamed and covered her head as the arrow went over her forearm, she looked at her arm and then at the elf that shot her, 'bastard!'

'Ir abelas!' He said in panic.

'You shot me!' She said in an accusing tone as she grabbed an apple from her basket that she had been carrying before she got caught and threw it at him harshly. He threw up his vambrace blocking the blow. 'How bloody dare you!'

Silvanus dropped his bow and looked at the flustered young woman. She wore an expression of fury, 'Ir abelas!' he repeated as he tried to move forward to release her leg and she kicked him square in the jaw harshly with her untied foot. He swore as he fell back from her holding his face, he was pretty sure that she had knocked loose a tooth.

'How dare you! First you trap me, then you shoot me and then you think you can just drag me off like some common dog-' She said in what was clear anger mixed with fear. He raised his eyebrows and stared at her confusion.

'Abelas?' Silvanus said pulling himself up to look at her.

'Stop saying that! I don't know what you're saying to me!' She hissed, wincing at her ankle. 'For maker's sake, man! Ferelden? Do you speak it? Or do you just go around trapping defenceless women?' She brushed her hair out her eyes, he could see that she was trying to hold back tears.

Silvanus sat onto his knees and held up his hands, 'I'm sorry,' he translates. 'I dinnae mean to hurt you!' He said quickly. 'May I jus' help get ya outta te trap?' He says pulling out a dagger. She sniffs and looks at him with a scowl before nodding curtly. He slowly moved forward and gently lifted her dress up a little with an apologetic expression, she yanked it out his hand and held it by her knees so that it was out the way. He tried not think about how lovely her skin was and what perfectly shaped legs she had and concentrated on picking the wire apart. It had cut into her ankle and she couldn't help but make a whimper as he pulled it free. 'Abel- Sorry,' he says quietly correcting himself.

She goes to move her foot but he shakes his head, 'what?' She snaps at him.

'Ya cannae move yet, ya need to have salve, an' have tis wound wrapped,' Silvanus says softly, he rotates his jaw feeling a jolt of pain through his gum. 'I can help,' he says reaching back around to his pouch where he kept some medical supplies in case he got hurt.

'What like catching me in a snare wasn't a great help?' She says with venom.

'Please, it'll help,' he adds as he shows her the bandages that he planned to use. She sniffs and wipes her eyes with the back of her hand as she nods and gently stretches out her leg, he grips her calf gently and rests her heel against his thigh. 'I am Silvanus Lorias, I am sorry that yer have gotten hurt,' he says in an attempt to make conversation.

There was silence for a good ten minutes before she replied. 'Lady Imogen Hawke,' she says quietly as she watches him. He had dark hair that was braided away from his face, his skin decorated with lightly bronzed tattoos that wove around his eyes and down the length of his sharp nose. There was a slight nick in the side of his bottom lip that she found strangely attractive. It wasn't until he looked up at her and smiled softly that she felt her heart skip, his eyes were intoxicating, like nothing she had ever seen before. A bright sapphire blue glittered next to a deliciously golden bronze, she bit her lip and looked away from his gaze feeling a slight blush across her nose. 'Thank you,' she said as he finished.

'Welcome,' he replies as he stands and holds out his hand to help her up, she glares for a moment before begrudgingly taking his offer up.

'Why do you have traps here? I mean I thought the elves didn't come to this part of the forest,' she said as she rested her weight on her good foot and bent down to pick up the fruit she had spilled from her basket. Silvanus realised what she was trying to do and started to help her gather them up.

'Our Halla 'ave chosen to foal 'ere,' he explains. 'Tis not what we expected,' Silvanus says as he puts her produce into her basket. 'I'm sorry, I dinnae mean ta hurt anyone,' he feels horribly guilty. 'Does yer arm need seeing to?'

She looks at her sleeve and shakes her head, 'no, it's just a scratch. Though it could have been a lot worse... you fool,' she says unable to hold her tongue. 'Look before you loose an arrow,' Imogen scowls hating that he wore a stupid smile as if he found her amusing. 'Do not set your traps around here. I come fruit picking often,' she instructs as she starts to limp away.

'Will ya be coming again?' He asks curiously.

She blushes an inferno, 'I...I might,' she admits. 'Why... why do you ask?'

'Ir in lath,' he says softly. She raises a brow and shakes her head as she stands up straight and walks off, he chuckles and mentally berates himself but he couldn't help it. Silvanus felt that she had somehow stolen his heart in the few moments that they had spent together. He would see her again. He had to.

So yes, a little backstory time!
