Rose looked at Jack confusedly. "What happened?"

Jack took Rose's hand in his. "You and Josie were in a car accident. She's fine, don't worry. She only had a cut on her head and a concussion. But you were worse."

"Oh my god," said Rose. She started to breathe heavily. She put a hand against her belly. "Where's-"

"The baby's fine, Rose," said Jack. "She's fine."

Rose smiled. "It's a girl?"

Jack kissed her cheek. "Yes, Rose. It's a girl." Jack picked up the phone next to Rose, and dialed the house number. Emma picked up the phone.

"Emma, Rose is fine. She's awake," said Jack.

"Oh my god," said Emma. There was some static noise, and Emma spoke again. "Josie, what are you doing?"

"Hello?" Josie said into the phone.

"Josie, why did you take the phone from Aunt Emma?" Jack asked.

"Because she said 'oh my god' and I need you to tell me. Is she dead?" Josie asked tearfully.

"Josie, Mom's fine. She's awake."

"Really? Oh, thank god," said Josie quietly. "I want to see her."

"Josie, we can talk about it later, okay?"

Josie sighed. "Okay. Can you tell Mom I love her?"

Jack smiled. "Of course, bye sweetheart." He hung up the phone. "Josie wanted me to tell you she loves you."

Rose smiled. "I miss them so much."

"They all miss you too," said Jack. "Especially Josie. She was terrified for you."

"Why, because she was in the accident with me?" Rose asked.

"No, because she blames herself for your accident," said Jack. "She said she was distracting you while you were driving, and that's why you crashed. I told her that it wasn't her fault, that the person in the truck suffered an aneurism and that's why there was an accident."

"I remember every moment up until the crash," said Rose. "She wasn't distracting me. The truck came out of nowhere."

"Right," said Jack. "And I told her that. And I told her that since she was the one who got it together to call 911, that she saved your life and the baby's."

"God, I feel awful that she had to deal with this. She shouldn't have to." Rose put her head in her hands.

"Don't worry, she's okay," said Jack. "I went home last night to check on everything and I talked to her."

"And how is she?"

"She's got a concussion. She lost consciousness after the accident, plus she still has a stomach bug. But Emma's watching her, I'm watching her. Jena calls constantly to make sure she's okay."

"Wait, who was with the kids when you were here?" Rose asked.

"Emma stayed with them, and I went home last night," said Jack. "Don't worry. The twins didn't really even understand what happened. And Josie was the one who told me to stay here with you."

"Okay," said Rose. "Can I see the baby?"

"We can check with Jena," said Jack.

It was ten minutes later, and Jack was sitting and talking to Rose. Suddenly, Josie entered, followed by Emma. "I'm sorry, but she said that if I didn't drive her, she would run away and come here herself."

"Josie, come outside," Jack said sternly, and Josie obliged. Jack knelt down to talk to his daughter. "Mom was really sick. She still is. And you have the flu. We can't risk her getting worse. Do you understand?"

A tear trickled down Josie's cheek. "I'm sorry. I just needed to see her. I missed my mom." Josie started to cry against Jack's shoulder.

"I know you do, sweetheart," said Jack. He kissed the top of her head. "I'm sorry. And before you know it, you'll be able to see Mom again. I promise." He held Josie in his arms and pointed at Rose through the glass door. "You see? Mom is fine. She's right there. And you'll be able to see her before you know it."

Josie had gone to the cafeteria with Emma, while Jack talked to Jena. "There must be some way Josie can see Rose."

"I don't know, Jack," said Jena. "It's risky. Unless she had some way of making sure she couldn't infect Rose-" Jena paused. She smiled at Jack. "When we operate, we wear gowns, gloves, and masks to make sure we don't infect our patients. If Josie did the same thing, there would be no problem."

Jack smiled. "Thank you, Jena." Jack ran to the cafeteria and found Josie. "Do you want to see Mom?"

Josie beamed. "Yes please," she said. "Wait, but what if I get her sick?"

"You can wear a mask and gloves to make sure you don't, okay?" Jack smiled. He and Josie went back to Rose's room. Jack prepared her and put on a gown, a mask, and gloves, and brought her into the room.

"Mom?" Josie said with a smile.

"Hi, darling," said Rose quietly. She reached out her hand and touched Josie, who immediately bursted into tears. "Josie…"

"I was so scared," said Josie. "You flew through the windshield and I thought you were dead."

"Oh, Josie, I'm so sorry," said Rose.

"That's okay, I'm just so glad you're okay," said Josie. "I love you, Mom."

"I love you too, darling."

Josie stayed in Rose's room before Jack reentered. "How about we let your mother rest," he said.

"Okay," said Josie. "I'll see you soon, Mom. Get better, okay? We need you."

Rose squeezed Josie's hand. "I'll be home soon. I promise."

Jack and Josie left the room, and Josie turned to Jack. "I guess you're gonna make me go back home now."

Jack smiled. "We can make one more stop first."

"Where are we going?" Josie asked, but Jack didn't answer. He was walking her to the nursery. "What is this place?"

"It's the nursery," said Jack. "Do you want to see your baby sister?"

"Really?" Josie asked with a smile.

"Sure, she's right here," said Jack, putting his hand in the incubator. "You can hold her hand, if you'd like."

"What's her name?" Josie asked.

"Well, we haven't picked one out yet," said Jack. "With you, we decided while Mom was pregnant. With this little one… she was born before we could discuss it."

"Yeah," said Josie. She looked down at her little sister. "She's so tiny."

"Yes, she is," said Jack. "But she's going to get bigger, and stronger, and soon enough, we'll be able to take her home."

Josie stood there for a minute before the monitors started beeping loudly. Doctors started flooding in again. This would never end, would it?
