Linda smiled as she walked to the nurse's station. "The first graders coming today?"
"Yup. We all took a vote-" Chrissy stated, "you're doing mouth to mouth CPR."
"On who?"
"We don't know that yet."
"Great. With my luck, I'll get somebody from the dead."
Chrissy laughed, "I'll see who I can rile up."
"Hello, boys and girls!" Linda smiled as the first graders sat on the floor of a big room. "I'm Nurse Reagan-"
"Hi, Mom!" Six year old Sean waved to his Mom.
"Hi, Sean. Today, we're gonna be teaching you about good, healthy habits and survival skills."
Twenty minutes came and went with Linda describing healthy habits and demonstrating how the medical tools worked.
"Oh, Good!" Linda walked over to the detective, who had been looking for her, and pulled him in, "My assistant Detective Reagan is here!"
"What? Why? Assistant? For what?" Danny asked rapidly.
"Boys and girls, this is Detective Reagan. He's one of the men and women who keep our city safe. Can we give a nice thank you clap for Detective Reagan?"
The kids clapped, Sean shouting, "yay, Daddy!"
"Detective, will you like to help me demonstrate a survival skill?"
"Which one?" Danny raised an eyebrow.
"Mouth to mouth." Linda answered a little bluntly.
"I'm good at that. Where ya want me?"
The nurse patted the examination table. "Lie down."
"I think I was in a situation where someone was commanding me to lie down on a bed just last night."
"Very funny. He's kidding." Linda discreetly slapped Danny. "Now," she went to the other side of the bed. "First, you have to losen any buttons or ties or anything that could keep the throat from... Uh, breathing." She loosened Danny's tie some more. "Then you open their mouth, and suppress their tongue."
"What does suppress mean?" A little girl wondered.
"It means hold it down, kid," Danny answered.
"You're supposed to be almost dead, Detective Reagan. No talking!" Linda scolded lightly, making the kids giggle.
"Sorry! I'll try to be mostly dead."
The nurse couldn't help her smirk, "now, you have to make sure their nose is closed and your mouth completely covers theirs."
"Eww!!" The first graders exclaimed in unison.
"Don't knock it till ya try it," Danny pointed out.
"Detective," Linda sighed.
"Sorry. Shutting up."
The kids laughed at Danny, because they all knew they weren't supposed to say 'shut up'.
"Now," Linda sat on her knees on the bed. "Hold their nose, cover their mouth, and blow. Listen for a heartbeat, and continue the process till they're breathing on their own." She sighed and breathed into Danny's mouth, the kids exclaiming, "eeww!!" Every time.
Danny played dead for a little bit, then he got an idea. He threw his arms around Linda and kissed her in front of the first graders.
"Gross!!" They covered their eyes as Linda pulled away from Danny.
"Okay!" She said, jumping off the examination table. "That's it! Any questions?"
A little girl raised her hand as Danny sat up, "will the almost dead person always kiss you?"
Linda quickly put her hand over Danny's mouth before he could answer, "no. They won't."
"Then why did Detective do that?"
Linda smiled and blushed, "cause he happens to be my husband..."
After a few questions pertaining to survival and the like, a little redhead girl raised her hand, "is he a good kisser?"
"Who? Detective Reagan?" Linda pushed her hair behind her ear.
"Yes."
"Uh, yeah. Yeah, he's a good kisser." She turned around and pointed at Danny, "don't."
"Don't what?" A kid asked very loudly.
"Uh, okay!" Their teacher said, "that's all we have time for! Can you thank Nurse Reagan and Detective Reagan?"
"Thank you!" They clapped their hands as they stood up.
"You're welcome!" Linda smiled and watched them walk out. "Danny-"
She was cut off by his kiss, "I gotta go. See ya at dinner." Danny somewhat ran out the door.
Linda sighed and shook her head, "What am I gonna do with him?"
