Last time on the Son Squad, Krillin had left with Dende to go see the grand elder, leaving Gohan and Chiyo behind to hold down the fort with Bulma. What awaits our heroes as they wait for Goku to come to their aid? Find out, now!

The Son Squad Ch.12

While Krillin and Dende were gone, Gohan and Chiyo decided to pass the time by sparring with one another while Bulma sat outside looking at the dragon radar. Gohan may have had Chiyo beat when it came to overall strength, but she had a slight advantage over him in terms of speed, so they each had their own weak spots.

Chiyo charged at Gohan and sent a few punches his way and Gohan had did his best to dodge all of them. However, his sister managed to get a good hit on him in the face that sent him back a bit. Gohan quickly bounced back though and got sent a few punches her way too and managed to knock her down to the ground no problem. She got back up though and this went on for a while with Gohan having the advantage one moment and Chiyo the next.

Bulma glanced up from the dragon radar for a moment to watch the two siblings spar with each other. She could see their Father's fighting spirit within them, having known Goku since he himself was a young boy. It was hard to believe that little Goku grew up so fast and was married with three kids of his own. A part of her wondered if things would've been different if she had gotten with him instead of Yamcha. Just something to consider, I guess.

That's when the dragon radar went off and caught Bulma's attention. She looked down to find that a dragon ball was heading towards them at top-notch speed. "Hey Gohan, Chiyo, come here a sec," Bulma called to the two children and got them to come over to her. "Check it out: there's a dragon ball speeding towards our way."

"And it's coming pretty fast too," Gohan remarked as he watched the small bleep on the radar.

"It must be Krillin! He must've gotten the dragon ball from the grand elder!" Chiyo smiled. They finally had a dragon ball.

"Okay, so that explains that dragon ball," Bulma said. She then pushed the top down on the dragon ball radar and the displayed changed to show six other dragon balls. Five of them were all grouped up together while one was all by itself a distance away from there. "But what do you guys think about this one dragon ball all the way over here?"

Gohan and Chiyo weren't sure what to make of the lonesome dragon ball at first. Then they were struck by the realization that that dragon ball must've belonged to the village that Vegeta wiped out. But the thing was, that dragon ball was still in the same spot that the village was. Had Vegeta been unable to find it? That's what Bulma seemed to think anyway.

"Bulma, I need to borrow the dragon radar," Gohan insisted, holding his hand out so he could take the dragon radar from her. "If that's true about Vegeta not having found the dragon ball, then we need to get it."

"All right," Bulma said, handing the radar over to Gohan. "You two go get the dragon ball and I'll wait here for Krillin. He should be back soon and then we'll have two dragon balls."

Once Gohan had it, he turned to Chiyo and nodded. She was coming with him. Time for a twin mission!

With that settled, Gohan and Chiyo flew off in the direction of the dragon ball and hoped to get there before someone else noticed them.

After a while flying, the two little half-saiyans came upon a destroyed Namekian village. They both looked out and saw not a survivor among the fallen Namekians. Gohan had already seen first-hand the pain and suffering that the Namekians had been put through by the like of Frieza and his men, but this was Chiyo's first time seeing it for herself. A look of absolute horror was painted on her.

They both descended to the village below and looked out over the Namekians that laid there on the ground; none of them moved an inch as a lonesome wind swept over the place. "Why? Why did this have to happen?" Gohan growled in frustration, shaking with anger at the sight before him.

Chiyo was trying her best not to cry as she looked over at one of the elders of the village holding a Namekian child in his arms in a failed effort to protect him from the onslaught of violence. "Vegeta's a monster," She gritted through her teeth as she refused to cry.

All they could do now was focus on finding the dragon ball. They followed the radar's signal and were surprised to find the ball not in any of the houses but instead in the water below. "The Namekians must've thrown it in the water to hide it from Vegeta!" Gohan theorized. "That's probably how they were able to keep it away from him."

"It makes the most sense to me," Chiyo shrugged. I mean, what else could it be?

While Gohan dove down to get the ball, Chiyo stayed above as a bit of lookout for trouble. Since it took Gohan a minute to get the ball, Chiyo was stuck looking at the village behind her and felt like she had to do something for these people that Vegeta so carelessly slaughtered. That's when she noticed some large stones that were lying around. She stacked them at the village's edge and arranged them in a stack as a sort of impromptu memorial. It had no particular shape despite her best efforts to make it look decent for the fallen Namekians.

When Gohan came out of the water with the dragon ball in hand, he noticed his sister kneeled down at the memorial and saying a little prayer for the fallen Namekians. He went to her side and paid the Namekians the same respect that she was. Now Chiyo wasn't much of a religious person, but she thought it was the least she could do for the Namekians who were caught up in this awful mess. That was the least she felt she could do.

Once they were both done with that, the twins left the village with the large 4-star dragon ball in hand. "I can't believe how big it is," Chiyo commented as she and Gohan raced back to the cave. "The one's back home are so tiny by comparison."

"Must be because they're the original ones," Gohan said a big smile on his face at the fact that they finally had a dragon ball of their own. Not to mention it was the 4-star one, his dragon ball. Goku had given it to him when he was a little baby and he somewhat associated luck with that number, even though some would could consider four to be a very unlucky number. Luck seemed to be shining down upon them.

As they both were heading closer and closer to the cave, they stopped dead in their tracks upon feeling a powerful energy heading straight for them. They weren't sure who it was at first but soon felt their stomachs tangle up in knots when they realized it could only be one person: Vegeta! They both quickly ducked down behind a rock formation and suppressed their energy as Vegeta came closer and closer.

Why did it have to be Vegeta?! Chiyo thought as she ducked down with her brother, her knees knocking back and forth.

As long as we keep our powers concealed, he might not find us, Gohan stated, trying to keep his sister from having a mental breakdown at the thought of having to tussle with Vegeta again.

They both stayed put and prayed that he would just go away. Of course, this is Vegeta we're talking about; he wasn't one to give up so easily.

"Come on, show yourselves!" He called out, making the two shake.

Just go away, They both thought at the same time.

"What's wrong? You scared?" He taunted.

Yes! Chiyo thought to herself.

Not getting the results that he wanted, Vegeta decided that he would just start blasting the place to smithereens and get whoever it was that was hiding to come out and face him. Knowing that they didn't have any choice, Gohan put the dragon ball down and stepped into view along with Chiyo, thinking that Vegeta probably knew that there was two of them and not just one.

Upon seeing the two children, Vegeta smirked. Kakarot's brats had decided to come Namek then. How cute. "Well well well. Kakarot's brats," He said as he descended down to them. "I'm surprised you two would come here." He tried sending a glare Chiyo's way to see if she'd run and hide behind her brother but she didn't; she stood there next to Gohan and shook a bit, but refused to hide. So the girl actually has grown a bit since our last encounter, Vegeta thought to himself as he came to stand in front of the two half-saiyans.

All we gotta do is keep Vegeta from finding the dragon ball, Gohan telepathically told Chiyo. If we keep his attention on us, he shouldn't find out that we have it.

G-Gotcha, Gohan, Chiyo replied, still terrified that the man that had landed them both in the hospital and had been part of their mentor's death was standing right before them.

That's when they both noticed that Vegeta had a dragon tucked right under his arm. They both realized that it must've been the one that Krillin had gotten from the grand elder and started to fear the worst.

"Y-You killed them and took the dragon ball!" Chiyo shouted at Vegeta. "You killed our friends!"

"No, but I can go back and finish the job if you want me to," Vegeta stated, shocking the twins. At least their friends were alive. In fact, they could still feel Krillin's energy, so he wasn't lying. "I let them live as a show of good gesture, seeing as I know have all seven dragon balls."

That statement caught Gohan and Chiyo's attention. How could he say he had all seven balls? They both simultaneously realized that the Namekians weren't the ones who hid the ball in the water; it was Vegeta! The ball they found was one that was hidden by Vegeta to come back for later.

Crap, they both thought as she exchanged a quick silent look between each other.

"So, you finally got what you came for," Gohan said, slightly glancing back at the dragon ball.

Chiyo felt sweat trickling down her back as she tried to keep her cool. The last thing she wanted to do was reveal to Vegeta that she and Gohan had the dragon ball. Not only would he surely kill them in a fight if they tried to keep him from getting it, but he'd finally get the one thing he wanted: immortality. Please, just go away, Chiyo thought to herself.

That's when Vegeta took notice of the dragon radar Gohan was holding onto. "What's that you've got there?" He questioned and Gohan held it back just in case Vegeta tried to look at it.

"N-Nothing!" The young boy replied. "I-It's just a watch!"

"Really? You're telling me that a species that can master interstellar travel can't make something smaller in order to keep track of time?"

"Well, maybe we just like it that way!" Chiyo interrupted, trying to help Gohan out where she could.

Vegeta scoffed. These Earthlings were ridiculous. Why in the world would they make such a large device to keep track of time when they could make something a lot smaller? They really were a backwards race. "Do tell me, is Kakarot with you? Surely he wouldn't miss out on all the fun."

"No, he didn't come," Gohan replied, trying to brave in front of the Saiyan prince. "We didn't think there'd be a bunch of bad guys like you running around all over the place."

"Oh? I'm a bad guy, am I?" Vegeta stretched his free hand out towards Gohan and instead of delivering a punch or blast like Chiyo expected him to do, Vegeta instead placed his hand rather tenderly on Gohan's head and used the other one to caress Chiyo's cheek. He looked somewhat fondly at the two and that was probably more unnerving than him smirking. "It's a shame he's not here. We four are special, you see. We're the last of our kind."

What the-? The two little half-saiyans thought. What was this all about? Why was Vegeta saying this to them? What did being the last of the Saiyans have to do with anything?

Suddenly, without warning, Vegeta kneed Gohan in the stomach and threw him down to the ground and before she could do anything to try and help, Chiyo was given the same treatment and found herself with dirt in her face. "Now listen closely, you two," Vegeta stated as he put his foot on Gohan's head. "I want you to rely a message for Kakrot the next time you see him. Tell him that I'll be coming to Earth soon. And this time, there won't be a happy ending."

With a laugh in victory to seal the deal, Vegeta flew off to the village where he had last seen the 4-star dragon ball, completely unaware that he was about to be blind-sided by the children of his biggest rival.

When they were sure that Vegeta was gone, Gohan and Chiyo weakly laughed as they looked back at the dragon ball that was kept safe from Vegeta. Guess four was a lucky number after all.

As soon as the twins made it back to the cave, they found Bulma and Krillin waiting for them. They all quickly left the cave and made it as far from there as they could, knowing that Vegeta would soon show up looking to kill. Bulma was glad that she was being carried this time instead of walking like before, but when they landed in a spot that wouldn't allow her to put the capsule house back up, she was less than stellar about things.

"We seriously couldn't find any other place to go to on this planet?!" She growled.

"Sorry, Bulma," Krillin apologized. "But we were just focused on getting as far from there as possible. Try to look on the bright side of things."

"Dad'll be here soon, anyway, so you just gotta tough it out until then," Gohan stated, coming down from lookout duty to assure Bulma.

"He should be here within a few days, right? That doesn't seem like it'll be much longer, Bulma." Chiyo tried to be optimistic about the situation.

Bulma grumbled about the unfairness of it all but Krillin tried to make her feel better by pointing out that they wouldn't bother her because he had a plan. "I'm gonna take the twins to meet the Grand Elder with me," Krillin explained. "He unlocked a power within me that I couldn't even imagine. Just think about what he could find in Gohan and Chiyo. Heck, I bet with the three of us all powered up, we could take down Vegeta!"

"Take down Vegeta?" Chiyo blurted aloud. After the beat down he had just given them hours ago? Krillin must've hit his head or something, Chiyo told Gohan, sending a confused and concerned look his way.

He might by right, Chiyo, Gohan replied.

About you, maybe, Chiyo sighed. Me on the other hand? I don't think so….

What are you talking about, sis? You're strong too.

Not compared to you, Gohan. You've got like, super crazy strength in you, especially when you get mad! I can get mad too, but….you're on a whole different level than I am.

Gohan was completely baffled by this. How could his sister see herself that way? He always thought they were both pretty equal in terms of power. Back with the fight with Vegeta on Earth, after the spirit bomb failed and he passed out, Gohan assumed that Chiyo took on Vegeta all by herself similarly to how he had done that while she was out cold. He had no idea about the great ape transformation or anything like that. He saw no real difference in their power at all.

It was obvious to Chiyo about their power differences though. She had just accepted it. That didn't mean she was happy about it, but what could she do? Regardless of Chiyo's feelings about not having any potential, Krillin still insisted she come with him and Gohan to see the grand elder. They left Bulma with the four-star ball and started the long trek to the grand elder's.

It's time to head to the grand elder's in order to get on a more even playing field with Vegeta. Will our heroes be able to turn the tides back in their favor? Find out next time on The Son Squad.

So this weekend my wifi will be limited so I decided that I'll be publishing the next son squad one-shot today instead of Saturday. (Don't worry; each new kid will get their own one-shot. Also, I decided to put each one-shot under one story to make things easier so go check out Son Squad One-Shots to see which new Son Kid will be getting their one-shots first.)

Anyway, have a good day, guys! See you all next. Remember to social distance and wash your hands often.
