Chapter 48
Morgana kept lancing out of the windows that she passed, the battle raging down in the citadel, Helios's forces were overwhelming the knights, her breath caught as she saw warriors passing the fight and had made their way to the doors that led to the castle
They attempted to force it open, Morgana prayed silently that they had barricaded the door from the inside, from the look on the warrior's faces this was the case, they had now resorted to launching their weapons into the hard wood, their axe blades digging deep into the wood
Morgana dragged her eyes away, she had to get down there before they breached the door and gained access to the castle, her heart raced s she sprinted down the corridor, she kept almost tripping over her dress, the heavy material doing nothing to aid her, with a wave of her hand her dress morphed to a pair of travelling pants, allowing her to pick up speed.
As she descended the final steps she could hear a roaring laugh and taunting voices, she rounded the corner to see Gwen swiping long sword at a group of horrid men who toyed with her, jumping forward, making her swing, keeping them away from the main door to the great hall where the citizens were hiding.
Morgana stepped forward, anger filling her as she glowered at the men, she felt her power flood her, she thrust out her hands in a pushing motion, her eyes glowing gold, the four men few backwards, crashing hard into the stone wall, candle holders crumpling under their weight, none of them moved, Morgana didn't know whether they were knocked out or dead and to be honest she did not care.
Gwen spun around, sword raised, dropping it when she saw the young sorceress
"Morgana?" she steadied her breath, sweat on her brow from trying to keep the thugs at bay
"Gwen, are you okay?" Morgana grasped the maid in a quick embrace, glad to see her still alive "Did they harm you?"
Gwen shook her head
"What are you doing here?" she asked, looking around when more shouting echoed down the hall
"I cannot sit idly by" Morgana too glanced in the direction of the noises "Arthur needs help"
Fear was clear on Gwen's face
"Morgana" she shook her head "Helios will kill you if you go out there"
"I know" Morgana admitted quietly, not being able to hold back the tears, but she managed a smile "I am so glad I got to see you again, dear Gwen"
"Morgana" Gwen whispered, but her words were cut short by approaching footsteps
Morgana moved in front of Gwen, she glanced over her shoulder
"Get into the great hall, I will enchant the door"
Gwen looked like she was going to argue
"Go Gwen" Morgana urged "They need you, Arthur needs you"
Gwen was crying but she nodded
"Make sure Arthur keeps his word and helps Kara" Morgana said over her shoulder to the maid
"I will" Gwen promised as she moved to the door
They closed just as more of Helios's men came into view, they glanced at their comrades who were still sprawled over the floor, they glared up at the culprit. They recognised Morgana instantly, but they still readied their weapons, one even bared his teeth, like some sort of primal beast
Morgana's eyes glowed gold menacingly the young sorceress raised one hand to the now closed doors of the great hall, she muttered an incantation which infused the wood
One of the men looked between Morgana and the door
"The witch is using her tricks boys" he lumbered his large two-handed sword "Remember, Helios wants her alive, but I do not see a problem with having a little fun of our own" the four of them laughed and advanced
Morgana continued to mutter the spell, splitting her focus between the door and the thugs, she swiped her free hand towards them, it pushed them back a little but not near enough to do any damage, their leader chuckled darkly
She focused on him and his large, daunting blade, she held out her palm, facing it, with great effort the blade began to heat up, the man was too focused on her to notice at first but soon the blade glowed, he called out in pain and dropped it, the other men paused, unsure.
"Get her!" he yelled "She cannot fight us all"
She was quickly rushed by two men, she managed to trip one but the other tackled her, her head hit the cold stone floor hard, blurring her vision, breaking her focus. Before she could even breath, the other men were on top of her as well, grunting as they kept her limbs from moving, she was unable to fight back physically
Fear flooded her as her head was forced against the stone, she could feel one man's full weight upon her, something gleamed on the floor, she blinked to focus her eyes, it was the sword that the main guy had dropped
Her energy was fading fast but she forced her magic to flow through her, tingling her fingers, silently the sword lifted into the air, floating there for a moment before Morgana twitched her fingers, the blade flew forward and impaled itself into the broad back of it's owner, he slumped and fell to the floor beside her, she took the opportunity of the confusion, to grab a dagger from the dead man's belt and slashed the throats of the two men closest to her, the final man kicked out catching Morgana's jaw, he drew his own sword but Morgana was too fast, throwing the dagger with magic straight into his chest, he crumpled to the floor along with his comrades
Morgana spat blood form her mouth, taking a breath and wiping the blood and sweat from her brow, she stood unsteadily, using the wall as support, she took a blade from the grounds, took another deep breath and made her way towards the citadel.
