Chapter 49

Kara could feel the cold stone beneath her bare skin, the crackling fire casting warmth on her right side, she opened her eyes slowly, staring up at the ceiling of Morgana's room, flat on her back, she blinked several times, her mind recalling what had caused her to be on the floor.

Morgana, she was saying about going down to the battle

Kara's blue eyes widened as she sat bolt upright, remembering the tingling sensation of Morgana's lips on her forehead, then the heavy feeling that swamped her, Morgana had spelled her, put her to sleep, to prevent Kara stopping her from her suicide mission

Kara stood, whirling around, the bedroom was empty, the blonde's heart pounded in her chest, breathing ragged

Morgana was gone

Kara double checked that she still had Arthur's dagger before bolting out the room, glancing down both corridors, she had no idea which way Morgana would have gone, the Blonde began to panic, she chose a direction and sprinted, she didn't know how long she had been out, was she already too late? No, she couldn't think about that, she just had to find Morgana before she had done something irreversible

The londe could still hear the battle raging outside, she caught glances of it as she ran past the windows but her mind could only focus on one thing, she practically leapt down the stone steps, her feet slipping on something and she fell hard onto the floor, something sticky beneath her.

She looked down, pushing herself to her knees instantly in disgust, the pale stone floor was covered in a pool of crimson blood, Kara leapt to her feet and backed away, careful not to slip again, it was only then did she see the bodies, her stomach turned at the sight of their throats

She took a deep breath wiping her hands on the already bloodied clothes, she moved around the gruesome scene, more bodies were by the wall, these weren't as covered, Kara carefully reached out and took a sword from the ground near them, it was nowhere near as good as the one Gwen had made but it gave her a better reach than a dagger

She dragged her eyes from the scene and turned to the corridor that led to the castle's entrance, she steadied her grip on the sword's hilt, readying herself for anything that she came face to face with

The distant voices and clash of metal was getting closer, her heart was pounding so loud in her ears, hands shaking, a sudden crash and her pressing up against the wall as a figure tumbled past her from around the corner, a shining helmet came flying off of the knight's head, he seemed stunned for a moment before a battle cry echoed down the hall, the knight raised her blade as another man came into view, his sword swiping downwards their swords connecting loudly

The blonde woman stood there frozen for a moment, staring wide eyed until she realised that the knight was wounded and losing ground against Helios's warrior, Kara steeled herself and rushed forwards, raising her blade before swinging it, the metal connected with the warrior's shoulder, cutting into his armour then his skin, he roared in pain, turning on Kara but the knight was back on his feet intervening and striking down the warrior

"My gratitude M'lady"

Kara finally looked at the knight, he was tall with dark hair and dark eyes, he smiled kindly at her

"Perhaps it would be safer to seek refuge in the great hall with the others" he gestured to the direction she had just come from

The blonde shook her head glancing around

"I need to find Morgana" she went to move forwards but the knight caught her arm, a serious look in his dark eyes

"The sorceress has escaped?" he asked

"What? No" Kara countered, sensing his tone and what he meant, thinking she had one back to Helios

"She has gone out there to aid you, but Helios will kill her" Kara tried to break his grip "I have to find her before its too late"

The knight continued to hold her, he glanced around

"As a knight of Camelot I cannot allow you to go alone" he gave her another small smile "This way and stay close to me"

She nodded and the pair of them fought their way out to the citadel where all hell was breaking loose, the knight she followed who had introduced himself as Lancelot took down many enemies, Kara used her limited skills that Gwen had taught her to defend herself but she knew that without Sir Lancelot she would not have made it this far.

They were making next to no progress in finding Morgana, they could see fallen warriors, their own weapons used against them, a few burnt with magic. Kara's heart quickened she knew that using magic drained Morgana and the amount of magic Kara saw Morgana would be weak she wouldn't last much longer, she had to find her soon.

As if her silent prayer was answered a burst of magical fire illuminated the rubble to their left, Kara was distracted by the thought of Morgana, a sudden splintering pain flared on the side of her head, she crumpled to her knees as the world spun dangerously, dark spots dancing in her vision, a horrible ringing in her ears.

A form came to stand before her, she looked up but her eyes wouldn't focus, though she knew it wasn't one of the knights of Camelot, she could hear a muffled voice but the ringing was too loud to hear the words, she saw the figure lift a heavy looking blur, an axe by the fuzzy shape Kara saw, she knew she should move, dive out of the way but her body would not respond, she stayed stunned on her knees, her head pounding violently.
