A new girl in town Chapter 78
Hunter
I'm not even waiting till morning. Hunter thought. I'm just gonna grab my stuff and head back to the hotel I should be there before morning.
Hunter gathered his belongings while the rest of DX was downstairs partying and left the hotel. He didn't even bother to tell them he was leaving.
Taker
They may have searched the hotel but I haven't. Taker thought arriving back at the hotel. I'm just going to go have a look around myself.
He grabbed his gear and headed down to the desk to check out.
"I know it's midnight." Taker said. "But I'm still checking out."
"You'll have to pay for the rest of the night anyway." The clerk said.
"I don't care." Taker said. "Just check me out."
"Ok sir." The clerk said hitting some buttons on the computer then handing Taker a receipt. "You are all checked out."
Taker took the receipt and headed out the SUV he had rented.
DX
"Where is Hunter. He should have been back down by now." Tori whined.
"Relax." Billy said. "He'll show up when he wants to."
"Yeah." Jessie added. "You know he does things his way."
He's been off all day. Chyna thought. I wonder where he is and if it has anything to do with Kayla's disappearance.
Cena
I wish I had the time to go and look for Kayla. Damn but the next event we have to fly to and I have to catch my plane pretty early. Cena thought arriving back at the hotel after the event.
Taker/Hunter
If I were to kidnap someone where would I put them if I couldn't take them out of the hotel? Taker wondered as he drove through the night.
Basement makes the most sense. She was drugged so carrying her around the hotel would have been difficult even at night. Taker thought. Could he have put her in a cart or something?
How would I move an unconscious person around a hotel? Hunter wondered as he drove. In a laundry cart? Under a room service cart? I could carry her and pretend she was drunk if I was big enough. Hunter thought. But where would I put her. We searched all the rooms and the basement.
Walking into the hotel Taker saw Hunter talking with a guy in a business suit they seemed to be arguing.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Taker asked approaching the men.
"I'm here to look for Kayla." Hunter snapped at Taker.
"Yeah right." Taker said. "You probably took her in the first place."
"If I did would I be here now?" Hunter shouted.
"Yeah you would. To throw suspicion off yourself." Taker said.
"Listen gentleman. The hotel has been searched quite thoroughly and your friend Kayla is not here. Its very early and I don't want the guests disturbed. Please." The man in the suit said.
"Listen I don't care about disturbing your guests buddy." Taker said. "I'm here to search the hotel. I'm starting in the basement. By the time I get done there if I don't find her your guests will have checked out and I'll start searching rooms."
"You can't do that you have no authority." The man said.
"As for you Hunter you better Get your ass out of here before I tear your head off." Taker said.
"Oh Yeah." Hunter said. "Try it. Go Ahead big man"
They stood chest to chest eye to eye trading insults and snarling at each other.
This is getting us no where. Taker realized after a few minutes. If I hit him I'll end up in jail and won't be able to search for Kayla.
Taker took a deep breath and stepped back.
"Which way is the basement." He asked the man who was still standing there seemingly in shock.
"This way." Hunter said beginning to walk away.
Talker rolled his eyes and followed Hunter.
"This place is huge." Hunter said as they reached the basement door. "Its gonna take a while."
"I'm not letting you out of my sight." Taker said.
He probably knows exactly where she is. I can't give him the chance to do anything more to her. Taker thought.
"Fine but we'd cover more ground if we split up." Hunter said heading down the stairs.
They worked together for a while looking through room after room in the somewhat darkened basement. Before long they were moving further and further apart.
Glad he finally decided to stop being my damn shadow. Hunter thought moving along from room to room checking them all inside and out and behind everything large enough to conceal someone.
Then in small room he saw what looked almost like a gas mask.
What the hell is this and what is it doing here? He wondered. It's really out of place.
Then he noticed scrape marks on the floor near where it had been.
This shelf has been moved. He realized.
Grabbing the shelf he moved in and saw a door behind it.
I didn't see this here before. I don't think anyone did. He thought reaching for the knob.
He pulled the door open to a dark room.
OH Damn it reeks of piss. He thought.
Reaching in he tried to find a light switch. It took a moment but he found it.
Oh fuck it's her oh fuck… Hunter thought stepping into the room he pulled her hood off then dropped to a knee and began fumbling with the ropes on her hands.
Kayla
She woke again suddenly to the feel of hands on her. she wanted to fight them off - wanted to scream and beg them to stop - but she couldn't.
She felt her hands being freed, then something pulled from over her head but she couldn't bring herself to open her eyes.
She couldn't stop herself from shaking as whoever it was worked.
Please don't set the bomb off. She thought desperately.
If I'm going to die, please let it be some other way. She begged silently. I can't take any more bombs; I can't be in any more wars. She thought frantically as haver mind ran in panicked circles.
Hunter/Taker/Kayla
"It's ok Kayla." Hunter said. "I've got you. Gonna get you out of here."
"You can't!" Kayla said.
"The bomb. She said... There's a bomb. You can't. Oh god, I don't want to die..."
"Fuck seriously a bomb." Hunter said loudly backing off.
Hunter took a couple of breaths.
"Let me look." Hunter said.
He looked under the chair and didn't see anything.
Then he changed position and looked behind the chair.
Hunter sighed then laughed.
"It's not a bomb." Hunter said. "It's just a toy that beeps intermittently. I've seen it in the store."
Then Hunter picked Kayla up cradling her in front of him and started out of the room.
"TAKER! Taker!" Hunter shouted as he exited the room. "Taker I got her."
What Taker thought hearing his name shouted. Did he say he has her?
Turning toward the voice Taker broke into a run.
Rounding a corner he saw Hunter with an obviously unconscious Kayla in his arms.
"Give her to me." Taker demanded.
"NO. Go get an ambulance. I got her." Hunter said still moving toward the stairway.
Taker ran for the stairs and up them taking three at a time.
"I need an ambulance now and the cops." Taker yelled as he crossed the lobby at a dead run.
"What Why?" the clerk at the desk asked.
"Just fucking call them NOW!" Taker shouted.
The man in the suit hurried over. "What seems to be the problem now." He asked sounding very put out.
"WE found her. We need an ambulance and the cops." Taker said.
Just then Hunter cleared the doorway Taker had left open and put Kayla on the floor.
"Blankets now." Taker said. "She's probably in shock."
The man in the suit didn't move.
"I SAID BLANKETS!" Taker shouted in his face. The man hurried off.
Hunter removed his jacket and so did Taker and wrapped them around Kayla and then the man arrived with blankets.
Hunter had Kayla laid in his lap and he kept unconsciously brushing her hair back from her face.
"What did you have to do with this Hunter?" Taker asked.
"Nothing Taker." Hunter said.
"Then why did you go out of your way to come find her?" Taker asked.
"I don't know." Hunter said.
"You really didn't know where she was?" Taker asked.
"No." Hunter said. "I saw a mask on the floor and some scrape marks. I moved a shelf and found a room. She was inside."
Taker didn't say anything he just took her hand.
"Taker she's hardly breathing." Hunter said sounding worried.
"The ambulance will be here soon." Taker said, hoping it would be soon enough.
"Taker whoever did this had her convinced there was a bomb on the chair. There wasn't but…" Hunter said.
Taker took several deep breaths in an effort to calm himself. I will find this sick son of a bitch and teach him the meaning of the word pain.
The ambulance finally arrived and the emts took over Kayla's care. Before long she was on a gurney and heading for the ambulance.
Taker and Hunter followed the gurney to the ambulance and once it was inside both men tried to climb in after it.
"I'm going." Taker said.
"Hell no." Hunter said. "I found her."
"Neither of you are going you are both too big to fit back here." The ambulance attendant said closing the door on the both of them.
DX
"He's not here." Tori said arriving back at the DX rooms.
"What do you mean he's not here. He didn't come down he has to be here." Billy said.
"Not if he hooked up with someone." Jessie said.
"His suitcase is missing." Chyna said.
"What?" Tori said. "Why would that be missing?"
"Why else Tori? Either he changed rooms or he left?" Chyna said.
"Why would he do that?" Tori whined.
To get away from you. Chyna thought.
"I don't know he didn't tell me." Chyna said emphasizing every word for Tori.
"I'm going to bed." Billy said. "He'll turn up at the next event he always does."
"Yeah." Jessie agreed.
Tori set off in a huff.
Chyna changed and was soon asleep.
Taker/Hunter
"I'm driving," They both said at the same time.
"NO I'm driving." Again at the same time.
"Fine I'm taking my car then." Hunter said.
"Suit yourself." Taker said heading for his rental.
The both arrived at the hospital within minutes of each other and were at the ER desk at about the same time.
"Kayla Jacobs please." Hunter said.
"I'm sorry you'll need to take a seat. She's still being examined and can't have visitors yet." The nurse said.
Both men began to pace the waiting room floor.
"What is taking so long." Hunter muttered after a few minutes.
"Hunter she's been missing more than three days." Taker said. "You don't know what he could have done to her in that time."
"I know but this is killing me." Hunter said.
"Whatever he did to her is going to be a picnic compared to what I'm going to do to him and anyone who helped him." Taker said. "I'm talking major bloodshed."
He won't hurt me. I mean I really didn't do that much to help him. Not really. Hunter thought. Besides I'm the one that found her.
I can't take anymore. Taker thought walking up to the desk.
"Can't you give us any information?" Taker asked.
"One of you can go back." The nurse said.
Hunter raced for the door but Taker beat him to it and headed back.
Kayla/Taker
She looks so small in that bed. Taker thought, realizing he never thought Kayla could look small.
Walking over he took her hand in his.
They've treated the rope burns on her wrists and she's got two IVs so she must be pretty dehydrated.
Just then the doctor walked up.
"She's in pretty bad shape." The doctor said. "Bumps and scratches aside she's severely dehydrated her kidneys are on the verge of shutdown. We need to get as much fluid into her as we can. So if she wakes while you are here try to get her to drink."
"Is there anything else you can tell me. Was anything else done to her?" Taker asked almost afraid to hear the answer.
"NO it appears as if she was simply kept." The doctor said.
Taker let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding. Then turned back to Kayla.
"Come on sweetheart wake up." Taker said. "Kayla wake up."
Kayla
She heard voices but they were so far away and she was so tired.
Why can't I open my eyes? She wondered. Why am I so tired?
She felt someone holding her hand but didn't have the strength to let them know she was there.
Why wouldn't they know I'm here? She wondered in confusion
Then she heard a voice.
"Come on Kayla, wake up."
Was that an order? Was she late for something?
She couldn't make sense of what was happening. Panic began to set in.
Then she heard beeping...
Her eyelids felt like sandbags, but she willed them open. Wherever she was, she was alive. That much she knew.
She tried to get her eyes to focus but the light felt like needles pounding into her scull.
She groaned and let them fall shut. again Maybe darkness was a better option.
