The Supernatural World of Vladimir and Viktor, Chapter 58

"Good guy, good guy, good guy, good guy errr woman, good guy..."

Sam Winchester was walking past the former vampires lined up along the walls at either side of the lounge in the Vam San, using his gift of discerning supernatural from human. Dean followed along behind him with a knife in hand and a stern expression, since it was his duty to slay any untreated vampires.

The residents were calm, some even casual. They had been through this before. They knew they were safe. Anica called this line up periodically to be sure everyone was keeping up with their evening drink of the blue solution. If anyone slipped, Dean would mock-threaten them and Anica would simply come in and point to the dining room where the solution was kept.

Coming out of the lounge, Sam gave Anica the thumb up and turned down the side hall to continue his analysis. Dean followed him and suddenly backed up, giving Anica a puzzled look.

"Yeah," responded Anica. "We have a lot more residents. Lots of them are fleeing the east coast. This Belladonna has them frightened enough to come here and take the blue solution."

"Good boy, good boy, good, uh..."

Sam came out of the side hall with Dean's same puzzled expression. "Hey, Anica, these are different. They are totally human, no vampire essence at all. Why are they here?"

Anica said, "Amazing Bob stopped by after visiting Beryx in Purgatory and said there's been a change in rules in the universe. Beryx, Vladimir and I have special blood now. Just a drop of blood in vampire bodies and their vampire soul is destroyed, leaving them completely human. Their memories as a vampire are wiped, too.

"They only remember being human before and after being a vampire. Finish up, please, Sam."

Sam returned to the side hall. "Good guy, good guy, good guy...Hey, Dean! A bad guy."

Dean flicked his knife above his head and marched into the side hall.

"I think he has colored contact lenses in his eyes," Sam said.

Dean looked closely in the vampire's face and finally poked him in an eye and flicked the lens to one side.

"Go drink the blue solution or have your head cut off," he told the vampire, touching his knife to the other's throat.

"I could just leave and not come back. Okay? I'm not hurting anything." The vampire pleaded as he was pushed up towards Anica.

"You are here to spy on us," Anica stated. "You have no choice."

She stabbed him with a needle and injected a drop of her blood into him. Then she looked into the vampire's eyes and stuck her fingers into his mouth.

"Just like that, eye color change and no fangs." Anica told the brothers. "I wanted to get Sam's reaction to the newbies before injecting the old timers. We will no longer need Wogglebug's blue solution and the special contact lenses."

And to the vampire-turned-human, "Stay close to here. I don't think you will fare well if you go back human. Do you really want to be turned into a vampire again?"

"Oooooh! Can we give the shots, Mama?" Vladimir ask his mother, referring to the old timers.

He and Viktor had come in through the front door just minutes before, with Joseph close behind them.

"No, let me take care of that," said Anica.

"You can give me mine," said Joseph and added slyly, "If you can catch me. We'll use these."

He reached into the dining room where the blue solution was stored and pulled out a box with "blood darts" inscribed on its lid.

Vladimir and Viktor excitedly pulled out their slingshots, actually rubber bands that they looped around two clawed fingers for shooting. They had become experts since Captain Fyter first taught them how to use the bands.

Viktor lost his enthusiasm when he realized there was two of them and only one Joseph. But Joseph noticed and walked into the lounge and announced, "It's time for blood injections. Weenies can stay here and wait for Anica to come in with the needles. But the adventurous can roll up their sleeves and follow me into the front yard where Vladimir and Viktor will chase us and try to hit our arms with these tiny lancets and their slingshots."

He held up what appeared to be a ping pong ball with a barely visible lancet sticking out of its weighted side.

Most of the residents figured this game would be more fun and went with him outdoors. Viktor followed with the box of darts. His wings unfurled as he slipped through the doorway.

"Mama," Vladimir told Anica. "Daddy is coming soon with Hank through the sigil at the end of the building. The transfer worked. We found Hank. Is Claire here?"

"She and Jody are in the restaurant with Jill," said Anica. "Bring them here after you use up the darts. Hurry!"

Vladimir ran outdoors looking up and yelling for Viktor to share the darts. "Never mind, I found them."

Anica looked into the side hall and told them to go out front to see the show, then took the blood-filled needles into the lounge to begin injections. Sam would verify when each cure took effect.

In Chicago a limousine pulled over in front of the Englewood Post Office. The back window rolled down and Belladonna looked out.

"So this was the place," she said.

"Yes, the location of the murder castle. H. H. Holmes had a three story building built here to take advantage of the traffic going to the Columbia Exposition in 1893. There were shops in the lower level and rooms for rent in the upper floors. The victims' bodies were processed in the basement. Businesses in the lower level provided the chemicals and other supplies he needed. It was a macabre tourist attraction for many years after Holmes was put to death, but eventually it burned to the ground."

"Lovely."

"We're building not many blocks from here."

The limousine continued on to where a new building was being erected. The bricks and mortar showed that the finished structure would be three stories tall. The store fronts in the bottom story were hidden behind tarp and plywood.

"Cement work in the basement has been finished. A pool and vats and an industrial drainage system. The delivery dock in back is done. We change the work crews often so no one will know where the secret passages, chutes and gas lines will be. You can examine it later. First, lets get you to your hotel room."

The hunt at the Vam San was more fun that one might have thought. Residents lined the front walk and cheered on the others dodging among the cars in the parking lot and onto the lawn beyond. If Vladimir did not get a shot at someone at ground level, Viktor got them from above. As each was hit, they gathered up the ping pong ball and walked over to join the crowd trying to warn the others where the boys were.

Sam, Dean and Joseph watched from the entrance. They noticed Jody, Claire, Jill, and Dorothy among the restaurant patrons watching the scene from the opposite side. It had been decided before the restaurant opened that as long as Viktor used his wings but stayed human otherwise, he could fly and it could be explained away as his using some elaborate glider. The patrons would be too far away to see that there were no cables attached.

Joseph was the last survivor in the game. He was up in a large tree with Viktor slipping in among the branches trying to get a clear shot and Vladimir aiming from the ground. If need be, Viktor would walk up the trunk and the hunt would end quickly.

But Viktor got him.

Joseph, out of breath, rested on once of the branches. Viktor clinging to another branch noticed something in the distance. When he asked Joseph what he remembered about when Hank's body was taken to Oz, Vladimir jumped onto the tree trunk and looked towards the end of the building. Then Viktor pointed that way and Joseph almost fell from his branch.

All heads turned to see Eddie and the newly-restored Hank round the corner of the building and stride down the walk to the front entrance. Viktor lifted up Joseph and flew him to his brother who was already swarmed by the residents there.

"When did he get fixed?" Sam demanded of Anica.

"Castiel went to Purgatory?" Dean asked. "When did Castiel go to Purgatory?"

Most of the crowd watched Hank. But those most familiar with the situation were watching Claire Novak.
