You shall not murder…

The sixth Commandment. She knew it by heart since she was just a toddler. However, it was of no use to her now. The darkness was taking root inside her. It grew in strength with each life that was lost to her hands. The men's eyes begged for mercy, but she felt nothing as she cut them down. There was a void where her heart had been. She watched as the floor beneath the men turned red. These men were scum. Their blood were unclean and unworthy because of their wicked actions.

She shivered at the memories, and stabbed the bodies one last time.

She was doomed no matter what, that much she knew. Even though it was an accident, she had killed that defenseless girl and spilled her innocent blood. Her Father would never forgive her sin.

For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God…

Yes, it was too late for her.

Forest Community Church

"Katherine…why?" Bill asked quietly. Even though his tone was soft, there was no mistaking the feelings of pain and betrayal in it.

Phoebe took a step towards the blonde, but another voice stopped her.

"She only did what her heart desired."

"You!" Masaru exclaimed as the cloaked figure of Phelesmon appeared behind Katherine Price in a cloud of black smoke. "I knew it! You are the mastermind behind these murders!" the brunette shouted angrily, pointing an accusing finger at Phelesmon.

Phelesmon cackled as he draped a long bony arm around Katherine's thin shoulders. "Did I?" he laughed cruelly. The Digimon leaned down until his head was level with Katherine's own. "Why don't you tell them then?" he whispered in the girl's ear. "Tell them why those fools deserved to die."

With a flourish of his cloak, Phelesmon beckoned at the bodies of the six men hanging from the ceiling.

The bloody sight jolted Katherine from her stupor. Phoebe, Bill, and even Touma and Masaru took a step back in surprise as the girl's blue eyes flashed bright red with raw anger and hatred.

"They deserved it," Katherine spat out. "For what they did to me…"

"Katherine…" Phoebe whispered. Her classmate trembled with fury…but there was another emotion simmering underneath it as well.

A dark aura similar to the one surrounding Phelesmon began to form around Katherine. "This is not good…" Touma realized. "Everyone, stand back!" he ordered.

Katherine grabbed her head just as two dark wings protruded from her back. "It's too late," she whispered. "Too late…" she repeated.

Then, she raised her head to the ceiling and howled.

A wave of dark energy accompanied Katherine's unnatural scream. "Take cover!" Touma shouted as the windows in the sanctuary shattered.

Masaru and Agumon jumped between two rows of pews to protect themselves against the flying shards of glass. "Bill, Phoebe, where are you?!" Masaru shouted. He raised his head and looked around cautiously for his friends.

Bill, Phoebe, Ryudamon and Plotmon had fallen to the floor in the middle of the aisle. They were right in Katherine and Phelesmon's line of fire.

"So…you're still alive," Phelesmon said, nodding at Bill. "A pity. You and that samurai are fighting a losing battle. At the end of the road, only death awaits you. There is no honour or justice in this world."

Ryudamon stood up. "It is you who is fighting a losing battle," he said, glaring at Phelesmon. "The human and I…we are fighting for more than honour and justice, but someone like you will never understand that."

Phelesmon's cloaked form stiffened at Ryudamon's words. He took a step towards Bill and Ryudamon…

Phoebe chose to lift her head right at that very moment and made direct eye contact with Phelesmon.

To everyone's surprise, Phelesmon released a horrified gasp and halted in his tracks. "Impossible…" he croaked out. Plotmon quickly rushed forward to stand between the evil Digimon and Phoebe as Phelesmon continued: "A 'Holy Light' in this place?!"

"'Holy Light?'" Touma repeated, glancing over at Phoebe and Plotmon thoughtfully.

"You don't deserve to live!" Even Ryudamon was startled at the level of fear in Phelesmon's words. The cloaked Digimon pointed an accusing finger at Phoebe. "Your kind don't belong in the world 'we' desire!"

"Shut up!" Plotmon snapped as a barrage of emotions, none of them positive, passed through Phoebe's pale face. "It is you that don't belong in this world! Ruo Lan, my friend and partner!"

Phoebe looked up, surprised at the way that Plotmon had chosen to address her.

Plotmon nodded at her. "Let's fulfill our promise to each other and eliminate this darkness!"

"Plotmon…" Phoebe's voice trembled with conflicting emotions. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. When she opened her eyes again, the hesitation was gone. "Digisoul, charge!"

"Plotmon evolve to…D'Arcmon! Baptême d'Amour!"

D'Arcmon was ready. Her sword blocked Phelesmon's red trident as it was coming down to slice her head off.

"Don't just stand there gaping!" Ryudamon snapped at Bill, who was engrossed in watching the heated exchange between the angel and the demon Digimon. "Remember! That girl is still a threat to us!"

"Katherine!" Bill remembered. He turned to look at his classmate again, and quickly wished that he hadn't: in lieu of where Katherine had been earlier, a Digimon now stood, sneering at them with a disfigured and cruel face.

"Lady Devimon!" D'Arcmon gasped, recognizing the mysterious Digimon.

Touma threw his analyzer to the ground. "I can't get any information on this Lady Devimon!" he growled in frustration. "Gaomon, let's go! Formation M! Digisoul, Charge!"

"Gaomon evolve to…Gaogamon!"

"What are you doing?!" Masaru exclaimed in surprise as Gaogamon, instead of using an attack, lunged at Lady Devimon.

"ARGGHHHH!" Gaogamon roared as Lady Devimon easily stopped his assault with one hand.

"What a bad dog you are," Lady Devimon smirked as she sank her crimson nails into her opponent's furry face. "I will have to teach you a lesson. Stun-!"

The claw-like extensions on Gaogamon's back suddenly reached out and gripped Lady Devimon's other arm and wing tightly. Lady Devimon cursed loudly as the two of them struggled to gain the upper hand in this battle of physical strength.

Lady Devimon briefly lost her concentration as Ginryumon leapt over her and Gaogamon's heads on his way to assist D'Arcmon, but that was all the time that Gaogamon needed. Before anyone realized what was happening, Gaogamon had propelled himself and Lady Devimon through the walls of the church's building and into the courtyard outside.

"Wait for us Touma!" Masaru yelled after his teammate as the latter ran through the hole to join his partner outside. "Agumon, it's time to fight!"

Bill looked away from the hole as the light of Agumon's evolution faded away. He could hear the sounds of a fierce battle outside as Gaogamon and GeoGreymon faced off against Lady Devimon. Inside the church, a quieter, but just as deadly, battle continued with D'Arcmon and Ginryumon facing off against the powerful Phelesmon.

Phelesmon smirked at them. "You're greater fools than I give you credit for if you think the two of you stand a chance against me. Mark my words: all of you will die here tonight."

Bill sneaked a glance at the six bodies hanging from the ceiling. He had no doubt that the Digimon spoke the truth.

"We must fight until the very end," Phoebe's soft voice startled Bill out of his miserable thoughts. "It is not over until it is over and even then, the end…is only the beginning."

Bill turned to his classmate. Phoebe's face was turned away from him, and she was staring at something behind Phelesmon. Bill followed the direction of the girl's gaze, and his eyes widened in surprise when he saw what she was staring at.

All the windows in the sanctuary had shattered earlier from Katherine's unearthly scream. All except for the stained glass image of Christ behind the pulpit.

And it was now shining as if it was day outside.

"Impossible!" Phelesmon screamed as he scurried away from the mysterious light and into the shadows of the large chamber.

A sudden movement beside Bill diverted his attention away from the cloaked figure. Phoebe was walking straight towards the mysterious light, as if she was in a trance. "Phoe-" Bill began.

"The end of the night…" Words flowed from Phoebe's mouth, but the voice that said them were that of a stranger. "The end of the night is also…the beginning of light."

Phoebe reached the light and turned around to face them all. At that moment, Bill saw her eyes shine with a calmness that he could only dream of having at a time like this.

"Ruo Lan…" D'Arcmon muttered.

Phoebe shut her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again, gone were the dark brown of her irides. A pink light now stared at them in their places.

"NO! THIS CANNOT BE HAPPENING!" Bill spun around at the sound of Phelesmon's hysterical screams. The Digimon was almost hyperventilating. He charged towards Phoebe. "CURSE YOU HOLY LIGHT!"

"Ruo Lan!" D'Arcmon screamed. "Watch out!"

The strange light filled the room.

"Darkness Wave!"

"Mega Burst!"

The fiery attacks neutralized each other, but not before illuminating the darkness of the night in an eerie red glow.

"Spiral Blow!" Seeing an opening, Gaogamon launched an attack at Lady Devimon's unprotected back. The latter screamed as she was consumed in a fiery inferno.

"That's it!" Masaru shouted triumphantly as the Digimon fell to the ground. "We can take her! GeoGreymon, one more-!"

"Help me…" A girl's voice moaned from the fire.

And Masaru hesitated.

"Kat!" A blue-haired boy, overcome with emotions, screamed out his friend's name.

"Masaru, snap out of it!"

Touma's shouts brought Masaru back to the present. He watched as Lady Devimon picked herself off the ground. Slowly, she turned towards them…

The face of the boy's friend, twisted in pain and horror, stared back at them.

"Hamasaki's…" Masaru said absentmindedly. "You are Andy's…"

The wind carried the brunette's words to the monster's ears.

"Andy…" Even more agony filled those terrified blue eyes. "Andy…" she repeated.

Gaogamon took a step forward, but a single gesture of Touma's hand stopped him.

"This girl…is Andy's friend…" Touma remembered as well. "Perhaps she is something more. A Digimon feeds off powerful human emotions. Did her feelings also…?"

"You are Andy's friend," Masaru said loudly. "We are his friends too."

Lady Devimon let out a sorrowful wail as she fell to her knees. "Blue hair…"

Masaru smiled as he recalled Andy's unique hair colour. "It is special to him…" he said quietly.

Katherine Price's face looked up at him. "You too…?"

"What?" Masaru raised an eyebrow quizzically.

"Aniki! Your hair! It's happening again!" GeoGreymon roared in surprise.

"What? What's going on?!"

"It really is glowing…" Touma was gaping at him. "Orange, just like your DigiSoul."

"Tell me! What's going on?!" Masaru demanded. He looked around frantically for a reflective surface, but found nothing. "I don't feel anything!"

"NO! NO, I DON'T WANT TO!"

Katherine Price's hysterical screams diverted everyone's attention away from Masaru's hair. Katherine's consciousness and face were quickly disappearing; they were being re-absorbed back into Lady Devimon's body. Her eyes were once again red instead of blue.

"No! You have to fight it!" Masaru shouted. "For Andy, your friend!"

But it was too late. Lady Devimon was back, and Katherine Price was nowhere in sight.

"That girl is gone!" Lady Devimon cackled. "You will join her soon, one way or another! Darkness W-!"

The church exploded with a strange light.

Bill was the first to open his eyes.

The first thing that he saw was Phoebe's still form. His classmate was leaning against the stained glass window. With her eyes closed, her face looked almost as serene as the holy figure in the glass above her.

As Bill got to his feet shakily, he saw the dark cloaked figure kneeling on the steps leading up to the altar.

"Damn you Holy Light…" Phelesmon wheezed out before falling into a coughing fit.

Ryudamon and Plotmon stepped away from the shadows. They had de-evolved, but were both in better conditions than Phelesmon.

'What's going on?' Bill thought to himself. 'Ryudamon and Plotmon's injuries...did they transfer over to Phelesmon? But how? Did Phoebe and that strange light have something to do with it?'

"It doesn't make any sense," Ryudamon said slowly. He was looking straight at Plotmon.

"Some things are not meant to have an answer," Plotmon replied cryptically. "You of all Digimon should know that."

Ryudamon simply nodded, and Bill suspected that he was missing out on a crucial piece of information from the two Digimon's conversation.

"Neo Devimon!" Phelesmon shouted. A moment later, the Fallen Angel Digimon appeared in a cloud of black smoke. "Destroy these imbeciles! All of them! Leave no one alive!"

Phelesmon coughed once more as he disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Neo Devimon's red eyes landed on Phoebe's unconscious form.

"No!" Bill's reaction was instinctive as his Digisoul manifested itself for the second time that night. As Ginryumon re-entered the battlefield, this time against a different but still just as powerful opponent, Bill realized that his and Ginryumon's hearts were connected once more.

Touma could not help but raise an eyebrow as Ginryumon and Neo Devimon tumbled out of the church in a manner similar to how Gaogamon and Lady Devimon had a few minutes ago. The only difference this time was that they fell on top of Lady Devimon as they did so.

"Where is Phelesmon?" Masaru exclaimed as Plotmon came up to them. "And what was that light just now?!"

"Phelesmon is gone," Plotmon said. "That light weakened him, somehow. He summoned Neo Devimon to take his place in this battle."

Before Touma could reply, Lady Devimon's angry screech filled the night air. Touma and Plotmon turned their attention back to the other Digimon, just in time to see Lady Devimon lunge at Neo Devimon and Ginryumon.

"Darkness Wave!"

"Boujinha!" To Touma's surprise, Ginryumon chose to face the attack head-on instead of dodging it.

"Ginryumon, stop!" Gaogamon shouted as the bats surrounded Ginryumon. "You can't win against her!"

"No," Plotmon interrupted. Touma, Masaru, and their partners turned to look at her. "He can."

"But how…?" Touma insisted. He could no longer see GInryumon - Lady Devimon's attack had engulfed him completely.

"Look!" Masaru suddenly shouted. A second later, a light from within shattered Lady Devimon's "Darkness Wave" attack.

"No!" the Fallen Angel Digimon screamed as Ginryumon emerged from the crumbling darkness, unscathed.

"He's glowing!" Masaru exclaimed, noting the white light surrounding the dragon's dark armor. "How come?!"

"Tekkoujin!" Even Ginryumon's attacks had changed. The normal spearheads had been replaced with a white flame. As the flaming spears hit Lady Devimon and Neo Devimon, both Digimon screamed with pain and agony.

"Whatever that light is, it is causing his attacks to have an impact on Digimon that are stronger than him…" Touma realized. He turned to Plotmon. "You know what this light is, do you?"

Before Plotmon could reply, a sound from above got their attention. "Bear Buster!"

"Take cover!" Touma screamed as the powerful red laser beam crashed down on the unsuspecting Neo Devimon. In the ensuring aftershock, Masaru, Touma, and Plotmon were blown off their feet. "Plotmon!" Touma yelled as the small Digimon flew past him.

A shadow descended from the skies and caught Plotmon before she could crash into a tree. "Got you!" a voice shouted.

"Lucy! Waspmon!" Bill emerged from the safety of the church and ran over to them. He was carrying an unconscious Phoebe on his back. "What are you two doing he-?!" Bill suddenly stopped in his tracks. "You too Masaru?"

"Aniki! Your hair is shining again!" GeoGreymon shouted, and he was right: Masaru's orange hair was glowing bright orange again.

"It's like what happened with Phoebe and Ryudramon inside the church…" Bill muttered. Touma turned his attention towards him and the girl he was carrying. "All of a sudden, this light came from Phoebe and weakened Phelesmon, while at the same time it healed Plotmon and Ryudamon. When Ryudamon evolved again just now, I felt something else in my Digivice, something strange and powerful…"

"Power… Digivice…" Touma heard Masaru muttered. His teammate looked up at Ginryumon and Neo Devimon, fighting in the air. Ginryumon was still glowing but the light surrounding him was quickly fading. Masaru took a deep breath and took out his Digivice.

Touma understood as his teammate locked eyes with him. "Do it," he said.

"GeoGreymon!" Masaru shouted, raising his Digivice in the air. "Let's fight!"

The orange light from Masaru's hair suddenly became ten times brighter, forcing Touma, Bill and Lucy to cover their eyes and take a step back from their friend.

"What's going on?!" Lucy exclaimed, turning her eyes away from the bright light.

Shielding his eyes with his hands, Touma squinted and saw that Masaru's Digivice was glowing with the light of a Digisoul. Touma could not be sure, but he thought he saw something quickly flash across the screen of Masaru's device.

'What was that just now?' the genius wondered.

"RAAAAWRRRR!"

GeoGreymon's roar shattered the blinding brightness as the powerful Dinosaur Digimon absorbed the strange light. A moment later, the same white light that had appeared on Ginryumon surrounded GeoGreymon as well.

"Mega Flame!"

"Don't let him get away!" Lucy was the first to return to her senses as Neo Devimon dodged GeoGreymon's fireball. "Waspmon!"

"Turbo Stinger!" Waspmon's rapid-fire attacks did not manage to cause any damage to Neo Devimon, but it forced the Fallen Angel Digimon to pause for the briefest of seconds.

"Puppy Howling!"

"Tekkoujin!"

Ginryumon had stopped glowing, but with Plotmon's attack further distracting Neo Devimon, his metal spears easily pinned the enemy Digimon to the ground, immobilizing him.

"GeoGreymon!" Masaru shouted as the last of the orange light from his hair faded away. "Finish this!"

"Mega Volcano!"

As the giant blazing fireball scored a direct hit on Neo Devimon, scorching him into nothingness, it caused an explosion that was so loud and bright that it could be seen and heard from as far as the North Shore, halfway across the city. When the police and firefighting crews arrived on the scene twenty minutes later, the charred remains of the church and the surrounding trees were still burning.

They were still burning, but there was nobody and nothing in sight.

The room was dark and empty as Osamu entered, this time taking care to not knock over the lamp on the table again.

The bespectacled boy chuckled as he looked up at the oil painting of the young man in Steven Victor's living house. "I wonder…" he mused. "Did you foresee this? That three of your descendants, even though they come from different backgrounds and have different motives, would all act the same way? I bet you did. They're your children, after all, the children of Hope, Blessed Hope."

Osamu paused as the red and blue lights of sirens flashed pass the house. "Blue, huh?" he smirked, turning his attention back to the painting. "I didn't expect that for one of your descendants, but it turns out you have surprised me once again. With enough training and knowledge, he could turn out to be the most powerful Blessed Hope there is. In fact, I dare say…" Osamu shut his eyes, "…that he could even surpass him."

The boy opened his eyes as the figure in the painting glowed briefly. Osamu smirked again. "Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about your other half," he said. "But her descendants still roam the earth freely, unlike yours. I'm not worried about them dying out anytime soon. Even so… the one that Alice is so interested in does seem different from the others. I wonder, what would happen if she-"

The lights suddenly turned on.

"I knew I heard someone talking in here," Steven said slowly as he tightened his grip on the baseball bat in his hands. He glared at the intruder's back. "I already called the police. Don't move until-HEY!"

Without turning around, the intruder vanished into thin air. Steven gaped at the spot where the boy had stood just seconds earlier, and noticed a white piece of paper on the ground. He approached it carefully, as if it was a poisonous snake. After deeming it safe, he picked it up.

Steven stared at the paper, and stared and stared…
