One thing Quinn was sure about, being heavily pregnant in the middle of summer was the worst. She was glad school was out for summer because she wasn't sure she would made it a whole day in her stuffy office. Puck had taken Beth to Ohio for two weeks. She knew her Mom was going to see them while they were there.
"Hey baby girl how's your trip?" She asked bumping the car door closed with her hip while she balanced the grocery bag on the other.
"Great Mom" Beth replied "Grandma took me shopping"
"Don't let her hear you call her that" She laughed.
"Uncle Jake is taking me bowling" Beth said "So I've gotta go"
"Ok, have a great time" She said.
Beth was gone before she could ask her to put Puck on the phone. She dropped the grocery bag trying to put her phone away. She sighed putting her hand to her head as apples went rolling across the lawn.
"I got it"
Quinn smiled at Adam shielding her face from the sun.
"Antonio's not here" She told him.
"I know" Adam said picking up the bag and saving what he could "He's caught up on a case I said I'd check in"
"I don't need a babysitter" She sighed.
"Maybe I just like spending time with some who gives me a hard time" He shrugged.
"Everyone gives you a hard time" She pointed out opening the front door.
Adam walked by and put the groceries on the kitchen counter.
"So, I take it I won't be seeing Antonio tonight? She asked, "How come you're not there?"
"He's undercover, he's got back up" Adam shrugged "It was me or some patrol cop"
"I see your point" She said taking a bottle of water from the refrigerator "Can I get you anything?"
"I'm good" He replied shaking his head.
"You know you're going to be doing this check in thing for another month right?" She asked raising an eyebrow.
The closer she got to her due date the more Antonio was checking up on her. Especially when he was stuck on a case that would take while. Sometimes it was Adam, usually passing patrol cars. If she was really lucky it would be an interesting call from Trudy Platt or a wellness check from Gabby. They were honestly all driving her insane, but she knew it came from a good place.
"I get blind hatred from Burgess every day, I can take it from you" He laughed "I find it comforting"
"Still not worked through things?" She asked.
"Apparently it's hard to date someone you work with" He shrugged.
"You don't say" She laughed raising an eyebrow.
"I'm not sure I'm cut out for it" He sighed "I care about her, but…"
"It just comes along one day" She shrugged "I honestly thought it would just be me and Beth forever, I was happy with that. This isn't what I imagined but it's worth it"
"Don't get all sentimental on me Q" He joked.
She rolled her eyes. Such a typical Rusek move to go to humor rather than open up.
She had planned on making a start on dinner but seeing as she would probably be home alone again, she didn't see much point in it.
"I hope you're not just planning on sitting here and watching my tv again" She said walking through to sit on the couch.
"I actually have a date" He said running a hand through his hair.
"Tell me everything" She said.
"You never want to hear about the women I date" He laughed "Are you that bored"
"I'm not sure I'd call it dating" She mused "And yes I'm so so bored"
Adam's dates usually only lasted a few hours, maybe til the next morning at least. Why he thought Quinn wanted to know anything about it was beyond her. But this week she'd been alone almost every night, so she'd take any kind of conversation.
"Her name is Crystal" He told her "She's a nice girl"
"What's her last name?" She asked
"Jones" He replied with a smile.
"I'm sure it is" She laughed trying to stand up.
Adam jumped up to help her. Sitting down was fine but getting up was another. She had to pee constantly.
"Oh god" She cried doubling over.
"What did I hurt you?" He asked.
"It's too early" She said shaking her head.
"Too early for what?" He asked panicked "Talk to me Quinn"
"The baby is coming" She said through gritted teeth.
"Maybe it's gas?" He suggested hopefully.
"Have you had a baby before?" She yelled.
"You can't be having the baby now" He said putting his head in his hands.
"Adam I can't help you through this right now" She groaned "Get me to the hospital and get Antonio there"
"Keys, keys" He said looking round the living room.
"They're in your pocket" She shouted.
He pulled them out and walked her out to his car. He helped Quinn into the back seat and ran around to the driver's side dialing Voight's number.
"Sarge" He said starting the car "Tell Dawson Quinn's gone into labor, we're going to med now"
He turned to Quinn to check on her.
"Can I call anyone else?" He asked.
"I don't know" She replied "Gabby or Donna Boden"
It was too early for the baby to be coming. She was trying her best not to panic but all she wanted was for Antonio to be there with her.
Adam rushed her through the doors of the hospital calling out to Will Halstead who was walking by.
"This is Antonio's fiancé she's having a baby" Adam told him.
"Ok Adam we've got her" Will said taking Quinn's arm "Is Antonio coming"
"They're getting hold of him" Adam replied.
"Will you come with me?" She asked, "Until someone gets here?"
Adam looked like he was about to faint, but he followed them up to maternity.
When Antonio made it to med Adam was pacing the hallways. Antonio knew why Voight had waited to call him, but he was still angry. Quinn wasn't due yet and he should have been there.
"How is she?" He asked.
"Sorry Dawson I tried to contact you" Adam told him.
"I'm glad you're here" He said putting a hand on his shoulder "What's going on?"
"They said something about the baby being in distress, they needed to do a c-section" Adam replied "I haven't heard anything yet, I stayed with her as long as they'd let me"
Antonio saw Gabby walking down the hallway. He pulled her into a hug.
"I just spoke to the doctor" Gabby told him "The baby's fine, Quinn lost a lot of blood but she's going to be fine"
"Can I see them?" He asked.
"She's not awake yet but you can go through" Gabby nodded "Do you want me to come with you?"
"Yeah" He replied, "Have you called Mom, or Eva?"
"I'll call them" Adam offered.
Antonio handed Adam his phone so he could make calls.
"You need to call Noah as well, he's in Ohio with Beth" Antonio told him.
Antonio paused in the doorway. Quinn was laying in the bed with her eyes closed hooked up to a monitor.
"She'll be ok" Gabby told him "She'll just need rest"
"Are you the father?" A nurse asked.
"Yes" He nodded "Is he ok?"
"Small but healthy" She replied, "I'll bring him through, does he have a name?"
"Finn" He nodded "Finn Dawson"
When Quinn woke up Antonio was cradling their son talking quietly with Gabby and Adam.
"Hey" She croaked "Is he ok?"
Gabby left to go and get the doctor.
"He's perfect" Antonio told her walking over to the bed "You gave me a real scare"
"I think it was Adam who got the real scare" She laughed but groaned in pain.
"You'll wanna lay off those jokes for a while" Adam teased.
"Thank you" She told him sincerely as Antonio gently placed her son in her arms.
She stroked his hair unable to take her eyes off him.
"I actually wanted to ask you if you'd be godfather" Antonio added "If that's ok with Quinn"
"Absolutely" She replied with a smile.
Antonio complained about Adam all the time but she could tell he saw him as an annoying kid brother.
"I'd be honored" Adam told them "That doesn't mean I have to babysit though right?"
"Absolutely not" They replied together.
Antonio stayed with her the whole night. Gabby had to force him to put Finn down and get some sleep in the chair before she left. They had reassured Quinn that Beth was coming home early. All she wanted was to have their whole family together under one roof.
