Chapter 31
Sakura woke to her husband's serious black gaze as their daughter played in his lap, she was examining his fingers seriously as she sat on his lap.
"You're going to a doctor's today, in one hour; I made the appointment," he informed her.
"I don't need a doctor, I just ate something bad for me," she stated calmly. "Besides, I am a doctor and I would think I would know how to diagnose myself if I was seriously ill."
"Hn," he lifted a brow at her with the most baleful stare she had ever received from him.
"I would," she argued.
"Sakura, you are going, and tomorrow you will being going to OB-GYN because frankly, I do not trust your body," he snapped as he poked her seal.
"That's mean! And I think I'd know my body best, it is my body," she argued.
"Sarada," he actually pointed to their daughter then and she scowled.
"Though rare it is possible for a pregnancy to display no symptoms, no outward signs, and not to affect the woman's body. Besides, I did not have any of the normal pregnancy signs; no sypotoms at all aside from that week I was sick, my breasts were not sore from hormones but from our activities, I did not gain much weight, I did not miss a single period, and my body did not express any signs of being under strain with a child. And just so you know, between sex and sparing we did plenty of activites which pregnant women don't do!" she argued.
"I repeat, Sarada," he stated coldly as he pointed to their daughter. She sighed.
"Fine, I'll go to both appointments, but when I prove I am not pregnant will you leave it alone?" she asked.
"No," he stated.
"Sasuke, there is no reason to worry about me, I'll be fine, I always am!" she pointed out.
"Sakura, I did marry you, so I am required to look after you," he pointed out. She sighed, such a blunt, insensitive way to put their relationship. Then again, she was his wife and she was his family, and Sasuke had a deep sense of family; an unusually deep sense of family. Probably because he had lost his family, and he had had a strong sense of family before the slaughtering of his. He probably feared losing his family again.
"You know, you're lucky I love you else I'd be taking my daughter right now and punching your ass back to the village for that statement," she stated it coldly and he just looked at Sarada in confusion.
"Huh?" he blinked.
"You're worse than Sai," she sighed, he blinked.
"Do not compare me to that social retard," he ordered. She burst into a fit of giggles then as she lay there curling in on herself with laughter.
"Huh?" was Sarada's sigh.
"Sarada, your mother is insane," Sasuke informed the toddler which did not help her laughter as she burst into a new fit of laughter.
"I am not, but the men in my life are eccentric to say the least," Sakura sighed in her laughter as she sat up. She grabbed her head then as everything felt woozy now.
"Sakura," he said as he touched her shoulder.
"I'm fine, just woozy," she sighed as she rubbed her temples then. He didn't let her go as he moved their daughter from his lap and he helped her up. She stood up, her body was still feeling woozy. This was a first and she had never had this happen to her since before she had gotten her seal. It was an odd sensation since she had never really been ill before the seal either. Well… there was that one time Sai and Naruto cooked dinner because she was tending to an injured, chakra depleted Kakashi. And they complained about her food pills! The nerve! She had been sick for a week because of their cooking.
"We're going to the doctor's now," he stated coldly, he had her and Sarada up and then they were gone. She blinked and she found herself in a waiting room for the doctors'. Kami did she ever hate going to the doctors! And she was a doctor!
"Sasuke you are over reacting," she insisted as he motioned for Sarada to hold the paperwork. The receptionist looked terrified.
"No, I am not," he stated coldly.
"Yes you are!" she argued.
"Uchiha Sakura, how often have you been ill?" he demanded in a tone that left nothing for arguing.
"Not often! But I am a doctor!" she argued.
"Doctors make the worst patients," he stated flatly as he accepted the paperwork from Sarada who was now in her lap as she sat beside him. Her daughter was playing with her fingers as she watched her husband beautifully scrawl out the information the doctors needed; he left many things blank but the gist of it was filled out.
"We do not," Sakura argued as she rested on his shoulder.
"Sakura, you are ill; you are never ill, you will be seeing the doctor if I have to knock you unconscious and drag your ass into the examine room. Do not test me," he ordered as he continued filling out the paper work.
"And how would you handle Sarada if I am unconscious?" she challenged.
"Susanoo," he retorted.
"I really don't like you right now," she grumbled.
He grunted in response.
"Don't grunt at me, and don't give me that glare, I can still knock you on your ass," she stated flatly to her husband. Sarada was giggling and Sakura managed a weak smile as her stomach flopped again. Damn it! She didn't understand Sasuke's worry, humans got sick on occasion, she was no exception though it was rare for her to be ill.
"Sakura, stop being stubborn," he ordered. She rested her chin on his shoulder so she was glaring at his side profile, which was covered with heavy, shaggy, black hair to hid his Rinnegan.
"Stop being un-Sasuke like," she ordered. He looked down at her with confused eyes.
Sakura was giving him a baleful glare during the entire examination. He just sat there holding Sarada in his arm as he glared back; he had meant it when he said he'd have knocked her out and dragged her here. He had messaged Tsunade and Kakashi about her being ill and they had both been shocked.
Tsunade said the last time Sakura had been ill was because of the dobe's and social retard's cook which had landed her and Kakashi in a hospital; Tsunade had also offered to come give Sakura a check-up personally.
Kakashi's immediate worry was for the health of Sarada and Sakura, demanding to know her symptoms and if Sasuke needed him to send Tsunade to them. It had startled him at how much like a father Kakashi had sounded in that message; he had known Kakashi and Sakura were very close, especially after he had left and Naruto had left, Sakura and Kakashi had become family. However, the demands from Kakashi about her health had been more of a relief than an annoyance like he thought it would be.
Both responses were comforting to him, he didn't like to think of what had happened to his team after he had left. Too many… happy, memories; happy was not a feeling he had felt since his family had been killed and at the time he had hated it. Now though, now he was relieved to know that there had been people watching over Sakura, she had been the fragile one at the time; the dobe could get run over by boulder sliding down a hill and be fine so he had never really worried about the dobe.
To find out how close Sakura was with not just her team but her mentors was a relief to him. It was also a relief to know if he needed reinforcements to get her to the doctors then Kakashi and Tsunade would be there to aid him.
Not that Sakura knew this as the doctor was handing her a plastic cup and giving her instructions; all the while her green eyes were glaring at him and Sarada. Sarada was grinning as she squirmed in his arm, he was just balefully returning the glare.
"Worry-wart!" Sakura hissed as she left the observation room.
"Wives, can't live with them, can't live without them," the old doctor sighed.
Sasuke grunted, Sarada was giggling like made.
"What's wrong with her?" Sasuke asked then as he rubbed his daughter's stomach.
"Nothing, as far as I can tell, we'll run the standard tests and have the results in a few hours," the doctor explained. Sasuke nodded.
"Not much of a talker, are you," the doctor chuckled.
Sasuke said nothing, but he did glare at the doctor and Sarada tugged on his hair; looking down he noticed her curious look until she pointed to an open mouth.
"We'll eat after your mother takes care of herself," he explained just as Sakura returned.
"I heard that!" she snapped as she handed the full cup to the doctor.
"You were meant to," he informed her blandly as he hefted up Sarada, she just rolled her eyes, smiled and thanked the doctor as she opened the door and they left.
"You worry too much," she mumbled when she started leaning on him as they walked. Sarada had perched herself on his shoulders, and Sakura was holding his arm for support; a clear indicator she was not well since he hated public displays of affection.
"Hn," he grunted, she sighed and he refrained from pointing out that he had lost his entire clan, killed his brother, had his brother disintegrate before him after being reanimated, Madara had been a monster, and Obito naïvely manipulated. He worried when it came to his family, he seemed to have the worst luck with it, and he was genuinely terrified of losing his pinkette. Even in the Academy he had been afraid to lose her, afraid to get attached too, but more afraid of losing her, and then they had been genin and there had been no fucking way for him not to get attached to her. He still had nightmares about when she had stood between Gaara and him, the fear of losing her was painful still. So yes, he worried about her and Sarada a lot. Losing them was a possibility with his luck and his reality.
"Here, they have dumplings and I'm starving," Sakura declared. He winced when his daughter tugged his hair in her agreement with her mother.
"Come on," he said and guided her with him; she was leaning too heavily on him still, but she seemed to be feeling better.
"Are you going to stop worrying?" she asked him when he seated her and helped Sarada to her spot.
"No," he replied. She'd have to get used to his worrying, and after five years of marriage, one would think she was already used to him worrying. Apparently not…
"You do know you're being unreasonable," she grumbled.
"We'll see," he then pointed to their daughter as proof. She was proof too, Sarada grinned at her mother as Sakura scowled.
"Does not prove anything," she grumbled.
"Uh-huh, proves nothing at all," he sarcastically muttered to himself as he looked the menu over for something that was not drowned in sweet sauce.
"So, when the test results come back negative on everything, what's our next move?" she asked.
"OB-GYN," he replied.
"I think I would know if I was pregnant, Sasuke," she replied blandly. He then pointed to Sarada again, the toddler giggled as she grabbed his finger and examined it.
"That doesn't count!" Sakura argued.
"Sakura, you had a baby, a baby you claim you didn't know you were carrying; I do not trust your body, I trust you, just not your body," he explained flatly.
"That makes no sense," she pointed out.
He shrugged.
"When we've cleared all possibilities, we'll plan what to do next," he answered. He didn't say he already had a plan.
"It'll be negative Sasuke, the other tests were," she grumbled.
He lifted his brows and looked to his giggling daughter then back to his pale looking wife.
"Uh-huh," he grunted in doubt.
