Chapter 32
"HA!" Sakura declared as they sat in the office having the doctor read the negative results.
"Uh-huh," he mocked, he'd let her have her belief that she was right, but he had suspicions. Especially since the proof was sitting on her lap.
"Well, you can admit defeat! I am right! HA!" she declared, her grin smug.
"OB-GYN," he stated.
"Uh… Mr. Uchiha, there was no signs of pregnancy and we'd have detected it with our hormone tests…" the doctor trailed off on the sentence.
"The last time she said she was not pregnant, we had her!" he snapped; not out of anger but irritation. He didn't mind the thought of her being pregnant, he wasn't even wishing for it; however, he had long since accepted the fact that Sakura and her body were very different from any normal kunoichi. Whether that was because of the seal on her brow or because she was naturally different, he didn't know. However, she was human and she was in trouble with him because he was not traveling without knowing what was going on with her and her body.
"Well, it is simply impossible for a woman not to notice her pregnancy," the doctor chuckled.
Both he and Sakura were scowling.
"Well, we never had any hints about Sarada so sorry if he doesn't believe you," Sakura snapped. "However, when I prove I'm not pregnant can we resume traveling?"
"If you can prove it; now, we're leaving," he snapped as he pulled her with him. Damn woman! She was going to suffer for making him worry about her, at least, if his hunch was wrong. But if he was right, he was so rubbing her face in him being right; he was never going to let her live this down!
"Great, then let's get this over, I'm right and you're going to be wrong!" she declared as they walked out of the office. He sighed, he tried not to lose his temper with her, damn woman was a pain in his ass!
"Annoying," he hissed.
"I try," she informed him with a cheeky grin, he scowled then. She could not have figured out that his saying annoying meant something other than what he was stating. Or could she have… damn woman had him jumbled up again. Only she though… and if she continued to do this to him he was going to be having a serious sparring session with Naruto. Damn Sakura for turning him around…
"OB-GYN," he ordered as he grabbed his wife and pulled her and their daughter along for the appointment.
"And you call me annoying," she sighed. He didn't counter that as he yanked her into the next waiting room, took the paperwork offered and sat down with her and Sarada.
"Just sit down and shut up," he ordered. She sighed.
"Sarada, your father is insane," she muttered to the toddler on her lap and he lifted a brow. He was more than likely insane; probably some Uchiha curse…
Sitting in the examine room after her husband had filled out the paperwork for this doctor. She was just sitting in the examine dress as she gaped at this equipment. She had been begging and pleading for this stuff before she had left with Sasuke on his journey. It was so beautiful! Kami she was going to have to beg harder if she ever returned home permanently to work at the hospital.
"Sakura! pay attention!" Sasuke snapped.
"Huh? Oh, yeah! Hi I'm Uchiha Sakura," Sakura smiled at the doctor who walked in.
"Hello Sakura, so your husband doesn't belief your claims that you are not pregnant," the doctor chuckled, she scowled at her husband, and the young woman laughed. "Have you two been trying to get pregnant for long."
"Actually, we're still not trying. I take my birth control on time every day, and Sasuke uses a condom every time we're together. We haven't slipped up, and I think I would know if I was pregnant, I'm not that oblivious after all; I am a doctor!" she pointed that last bit at her husband. He was scowled.
"One word: Sarada!" he snapped back.
"I am not that clueless! Naruto is that clueless, you're that clueless, Sai is that clueless! I am not! I think I'd notice if I was pregnant!" she snapped.
"Sarada!" he repeated. The toddler laughed, she and Sasuke glared at one another then.
"Anyway, Sakura, would you lay down please," the young woman asked.
"Yeah, if only to prove him wrong," Sakura grumbled as she lay down and comfortably continued with this appointment. When the time came for the ultra sound came she was ready, uncomfortable, but ready all the same. The scream came to life, the grainy gray screen was blank.
"HA!" she pointed in triumph then. "I told you so!"
"Will you look again, Sakura," he ordered. She looked to the screen and her eyes widened.
"Wait! This is… but Kami! That was," and she started counting her fingers then. "Kami, but… we use protection! Every time!"
"Well, congratulations, Sakura, you're about eleven to twelve weeks I'd say… perhaps we can hear the heartbeat," the doctor suggested.
"Yeah," she sighed.
"So who is right?" Sasuke asked her cheekily. She swatted at him.
"Not now! Honestly, you're worse than Naruto or Sai!" she hissed as she looked at the screen in disbelief then. So, Sasuke was right… Sakura didn't know how to feel about that, but she was startled to find herself pregnant yet again. If she was right, then this baby was conceived on the night of their argument about more children.
"And just so you know, there is a three percent failure rate with birth control and a condom failure rate about four or five percent."
"I know that, but I also didn't think I was pregnant because… you know, no symptoms," she chuckled on her own. Sasuke rolled his eyes then.
"I repeat, Sarada!" he snapped.
"And I repeat! Doesn't count!" she retorted.
"So, I'm pregnant," Sakura mumbled dumbly for the gazillionth time. Sarada was looking around the village they were in from her perch on his shoulders, and Sakura had his arm tightly gripped.
"Sakura, we need somewhere for you and Sarada to safely be," Sasuke pointed out.
There was no point on them dwelling on her being pregnant; a part of him was scared to death of another kid, and he was terrified of Sakura going through another birth if the last one was any indicator as to what could possibly go wrong. Birthing Sarada had been the single most terrifying moment of his life; well that and three others where she had nearly died at his hand. All three times Sakura had nearly died was because of him, when he had actually tried to strangle her, then there was the time he had nearly shoved his chidori through her, oh, and that time he had actually successfully stabbed her through the chest before chasing after Naruto to kill him, and then there was the birth of Sarada… which he was to blame for getting her pregnant in the first place. Honestly, it was amazing he hadn't succeeded in killing her after all the times he had tried, he usually succeeded in killing whoever was his target, he had the hit list of names of everyone he had killed to prove his efficiency in that particular skill set.
Sakura was the only name on his list which continuously remained unscratched despite all the damage he had inflicted upon her. Her and Naruto.
"Yeah, I suppose we're going to be in need of another house…" Sakura guessed as she walked with him.
"Hn," he agreed, Sarada pointed at a bird which had him softening a bit.
"Another kid, you know, if my calculations are right then he was conceived on the night of that argument about not having more kids," she poked his ribs then. He scowled at her and then he sighed; he still didn't want more children.
However, he would do anything to keep Sakura happy and he did mean anything. There was little he wouldn't do for Sakura's happiness or her health.
"I think this is a bad idea," he admitted.
"I know you do, but being a single child, it sucks; as we on Team 7 well know," she pointed out.
"Sakura, my family… this could be a little trickier than you think," he argued.
"Don't worry about it, the kid would also be half me, and though I annoy you, I do not hate," she stated this confidently and he smirked. He wasn't too sure about that statement, but he would let her think what she would.
"Sakura," he shook his head then. She sighed and leaned on him.
"We're in this together, no matter what, and we'll teach them all right from wrong and family and about the village. We won't let them be hurt or tainted by hatred, and Sasuke, no matter what we're going to be there for them. After all, you've been talking about reviving your clan since we were genin!" she laughed. He stopped, baffled at her statement, partially amused, and partially startled at the sincerity of what she was saying.
Sakura found herself staring at the grainy, grey image of what looked like a jellybean in her belly that night as Sasuke put Sarada down for bed.
She was pregnant.
Damn it!
She was thrilled; naturally, Sakura loved being a mom, but she hadn't wanted another baby while they were traveling and with the argument they had had about having more kids… well, she hadn't wanted to rock that boat for at least another three years. However, it appeared the fates had other plans for her as she sat on the bed of the inn her family was staying in and thinking about this.
It was already hard enough to travel around with just Sarada, she was an easy toddler to care for but children had needs; stability was one of them, and safe places to be were another. Even she knew this, which was why she was trembling slightly when Sasuke entered the room.
"Sakura," he said softly as he sat beside her and looked at the image she had had printed today.
"I know you don't want another kid," she whispered finally as she settled her tightly clenched hands in her lap, the paper crinkled a bit under her grip.
"But I don't care, I'm having the baby," she finally said softly. His knuckles brushed her cheek, she blinked and then stared at him with eyes she hadn't even notice become wet.
"We'll figure this out," he said softly. She smiled slightly and leaned into his touch as she then crawled onto his lap like their daughter did whenever he was sitting down.
"I never thought I'd be scared about being a mom, however, now that we know this time… I'm terrified Sasuke," she admitted softly, his arm wrapped around her as he fell back on the bed with her. she closed her eyes as her ear rested against his heart and her mind settled a bit. Her stomach was still doing flops with her excitement, shock and fear of being a mother again. Sasuke would be a wonderful father, she knew this, but she was terrified of him running off and leaving her high and dry with two kids, a house, and no job.
"We're going to be fine Sakura," he whispered.
"I know, but I'm allowed to be scared, especially with that argument we had," she pointed out.
"No one is leaving," he stated flatly as his arm tightened around her waist. "And as you pointed out ealier, I participated in making this child so I will be here to help you however I can. But I do have a mission to complete."
"I know, but the mission isn't what scares me," she mumbled. Her only fear had happened on the night of the argument; she was terrified of him just…
Leaving.
His fingers slipped through her hair as she shut her eyes and tried to settle for some sleep; she'd need it because come tomorrow she was going to officially be a pregnant mother, and wife on the hunt for a house for her kids.
"What does scare you then?" he whispered.
She didn't answer as she tightened her grip on him in response. He didn't really need to know.
