Don't chase shadows make friends with reflections -YT: Tekking101
Work had finally picked up for the heroes again, which they weren't technically supposed to be happy about considering that meant crime was on the rise, but it kept the team occupied and that in itself was something to be thankful for. As of late however, their main target had only been one guy. A man who they weren't even sure the identity of as their only hints were what they managed to get out of his minions.
"I just got a call from the police department" Adam said as he walked into the room where the rest of the team was working. "What to guess who they have in custody?"
"I'm willing to bet good money that the answers ninja." Tori responded as he got up to grab his hat.
Adam nodded and looked down at the piece of paper that one of the interns had handed him "Yeah, but it looks like this one will be different from the others we've interrogated before, so be on guard."
With that the team nodded and walked out the door to the police station.
When the team got there they were given a strange look, all five of them together was a rare sight for the public and it hinted at that there was something more serious about the situation that the police were ready for. The team didn't have to wait long before one of the officers came and got them, "He's in here" she said as she directed them towards the viewing room for the interrogation room.
The room was empty besides one man who sat at the metal table, outside of the room he would look like a regular guy, no scars, no notable features, not even that musical looking. Just a normal looking young man wearing all black.
"Who is he?" Jamie asked.
The officer pulled out a file and handed it to the hero "Markus Gray, a college drop out who went missing three months ago. No criminal record, no outstanding debt besides that of a first year college student, no reason to be in that room. And yet we arrested him after he managed to rob a wealthy apartment and jumped out of the third-floor window."
"A ninja" Tori mutter under his breath causing Kari gave him a quick nudge.
Luckily the officer laughed "So it would seem, has the training and everything"
"The tattoo?" Jamie asked. Over the time the supposed ninja criminal had been active, every single one of them caught had the exact same tattoo of a throwing star on their wrist.
"Sort of, he has the tattoo but it's not complete, he only has the outline. He might be a copycat since that information has been released to the public" she took a breath "but…"
"You think it's something else"
"One of our detectives suggested the possibility that he is a recruit. Hasn't earned the full tattoo yet."
"It's a possibility" Jamie said "If it is than we can use this to our advantage."
Kari gave him a skeptical look "how so?"
Jamie didn't answer her, instead he stepped out of the viewing room and into the interrogation.
It didn't take long for Jamie to get the information he wanted and ordered the team back to M5. Along the way he told them what he found out, the location of the base for the ninja criminals along with a name.
"Grant, when we get back to the base I need you to start work right away. Adam, help him, we'll need some special effect on our side if we're going to pull this off."
And so it went, the team arrived at their base and got right to work. Adam and Grant going off into their own corner to make magic reality. Kari and Jamie got out the map of the area and started planning. And Tori did what Tori did best.
They all worked through the night, once one project was done another would take it's place and soon all 5 of them were rolling their hard work into a truck.
Just before dawn the team rolled up to a decently sized lake beyond the city limits. The marine layer was thick that morning, allowing heavy fog to cover most of the land obscuring the heroes vision. Even knowing what was out there, the team had a hard time seeing the large structural shape poking out of the lake.
"So this is the place" Tori yawned "The ninja are out there on the island I'm guessing? And we didn't bring a boat."
Adam smiled at that comment "We don't need a boat" he said as he opened up the back of the truck and pulled out the long platform of plastic they had constructed. They were heroes, not ninjas, but Adam would disagree. To be a ninja was to do the impossible with mundane tricks. To be a hero was more or less the same. Why not do both? Why not break into the enemy's base with their own tactics?
It didn't take long for the team to have everything in place. Slowly Adam and Grant crept across the water, a see threw plastic just beneath the surface. The building wasn't that far out and they weren't sure what kind of equipment the ninjas had so Adam and Grant walk in front of him with a large piece of glass to block the most common type of sensors. Once they were across the rest followed carrying their own piece of glass. It was slow goings but so far no alarm had been sounded.
The base of the ninja was actually pretty boring up close. Just a basic building, only two stories tall with a second single story building off to the side. Jamie gestured for the Build Team to take the smaller building while he and Adam took the main.
As the two heroes entered the building one thing quickly became obvious, the place was empty. While there was signs of life everywhere and not a spec of dust to be found, there were no people. Not only were there no people, but there was a suspicious lack of camera to. Neither of these facts sat well with the two heroes and they crept through the building. It took the two of them a while to work their way through the first floor, the rooms they had come across that were not locked each had a second door inside of it leading somewhere new. By the time they found the stair case Adam was wondering if the build team had found anything.
Eventually they were nearing the end of the last hall on the second floor Adam spotted a door that was left slightly open. Every other door they had passed had been shut and most of those had been locked, but this one… Jamie motioned towards the base of the door, the shadows behind it were moving. Great.
Adam looked around to see if there was any other way to enter the room, but there was nothing, no air vents, no unlocked doors to rooms that might act as a back entrance. All they had was an invitation.
"On the count of three?" Adam asked.
"One" Jamie muttered.
"Two"
"Three!" the heroes yelled together as they busted through the door and into the villain's chambers.
Inside was what looked like the entire army of ninja. 20 in total, all standing around one man in a chair. "So you've finally arrived" the man smirked. "Now where is the rest of your little crew?"
"Wouldn't you like to know!" Adam shot back. So the Build Team had managed to make their way through the base without setting off any alarms, that was good.
"No matter, I'm sure we'll capture them soon." The man said like it was the simplest thing in the world "Easer to just take you down first. Remove the head am I right?"
Adam looked around the room, trying to see what he could use to his advantage. 2 against 20 was not good odds, heroes or not, they weren't invincible. As Adam searched, he felt Jamie nudge his arm slightly, a quick glance at the air vent was all Adam needed to know.
"Alright, I'll admit you out number us" Adam said, straightening his back and trying to look nonchalant. "But you forgot one little detail"
"And what is that?"
"We aren't just heroes, we're scientists"
Suddenly the walls began to leak smoke and the outlets began sparking. Adam and Jamie moved into action as Kari, Grant, and Tori dropped from the ceiling. Grant handed Adam and Jamie a face mask to stop them from breathing in to much smoke. Kari pulled out her modified tasers and began taking out the ninja one by one, Tori stopping anyone who got to close before she was ready.
By the time the smoke cleared the ninja had been taken care of and the day was as good as saved.
