AN: Another chapter, although this one is quite short. Sorry for the length!
SENRI
"Pass me the ointment?" Yori asked. She was tireless; since they'd set foot into the medical tents she had been busy. Even now, inundated with wounded soldiers, she pushed herself to attend each and every one of them that the doctors could not. Perhaps it was a Wakaba trait; in the adjacent tent he knew Yori's stepmother was working just as tirelessly.
Senri nodded, handing over the container, and a sharp pain lanced through his brow. The room flashed red for the briefest of moments.
"Senri?" he heard Rima ask in concern. A moment later he felt the cool press of her hand against his arm.
Blood.
"Yes," he replied through clenched teeth. Everywhere was the smell of blood.
A cry.
"Are you having a premonition?" the druid questioned softly.
It was the vision from before. The hooded figure, clutching the bloody dagger. The blood and dirt mixing into gold. The unseeable face within that hood, which turned into smoke and dissolved before his eyes...
Somewhere behind him, a small wail shot panic through his veins. If they didn't act soon, it would be too late.
It would be…too late...
"What are we too late for?" Rima pressed, and he realized he was saying the words out loud as he tended to.
"I don't know," he murmured, pressing his fingers into his temples. The harder he tried to clutch at the images, the faster they faded away. This time, they left him with a sense of panic that he could not shake.
"What did you see?"
"I don't know," he repeated. "Nothing. But...I can't help but have a bad feeling…"
"Should we stay here? Or go to the castle?" Rima frowned.
Something unknown wrenched in his gut. Yes. No. Both. Neither. There was no good answer. His head was pounding.
"I don't know," he was forced to repeat again.
Even with the visions, he had no way of knowing. What was the use of such magic, when it never brought clarity to the future?
"Drink some water," the druid urged.
As she gave him the cup, he thought he saw a flash of something in the depths. And then, just as fast as it had come, it was gone again. He didn't know what it meant. He just...didn't know.
AN: Something is coming...but what? Not even Senri knows.
