The Supernatural World of Vladimir and Viktor, Chapter 63
Dean Winchester's Baby appeared just outside Sioux Falls, thanks to Castiel. By the time the Winchesters and Castiel reached the jail house the werewolves had returned to their human forms.
Inside, they were greeted and offered coffee. Sheriff Mills led them down the hall to the cell rooms. And there they found the two humans in orange jump suits each in their own cell.
"Guys meet George and Pud," Jody said as she unlocked the cell doors. "Let's gather in the lunchroom."
The six of them sat around a long lunch table and the cook came in and asked if anyone was having breakfast. Jody motioned to George and Pud.
"Yeah, if they didn't eat someone last night," Dean sneered below his breath.
"We were imprisoned," glowered George. "No we didn't eat anyone."
"Besides, I don't eat people," added Pud. "I camp out away from people during full moon and feed on the animal life up in the mountains. Do you think I could live with myself if I ever ate a person?"
"Hash browns, bacon and eggs okay?" asked Jody, giving Dean a disapproving side-glance.
The werewolf guys nodded as the cook filled everyone's coffee cup.
Sam was curious. "Pud, if you camp out, how is it you were locked up last night?"
Pud explained. "A werewolf hunting group caught me prowling one night and told me it would be better if I reported in to be secured because I might someday attack a human. It made sense. I was always concerned that I might camp out and not know there was someone nearby. So I agreed."
"Did you know there was another werewolf in your cell last night?" asked Castiel.
Pud closed his eyes and sighed. "I'm not surprised. They said I could help them catch other werewolves. They rigged an open door as a trap and said I wouldn't be fed so that I would complain – howl all night. They said they wanted to get the alpha that was trying to gather up the lone werewolves into a pack. What happened to it?"
"It was killed," said Castiel.
"Do we have a body to examine?" asked Jody.
"No, Zeke found the location and the werewolf broke out and chased him down. Viktor disposed of it."
Sam and Dean jumped up at that.
"Zeke was there? What in hell was Zeke doing there?" asked Dean.
"He heard the wailing and decided he would track down where it came from."
"By himself?"
"Vlad and Vik already chewed him out for that. I told him I have to go with him if he ever does it again. I think the boys said the same thing."
"So, he's okay?"
"Yes. He was ripped up pretty bad, but I healed him. He is alright."
Jody was standing now, leaning in to Castiel. "Any tooth marks?"
"No. Only claw marks. I checked carefully." Castiel replied. "No tooth marks."
"Okay. If it bit him, Zeke could have been changed," Jody said evenly.
"No tooth marks," repeated Castiel confidently.
"And no saliva?" George mumbled over his hash browns. "My werewolf killed my wife and kid. I was told I contracted the werewolf condition even though I wasn't bitten, because I was hugged my dead wife and kid and it could have been in its saliva on their faces."
The room was quiet for a minute.
"Castiel, did you notice any drool on Zeke's body?" Jody asked.
"I do not recall. I do not think so. If it got into the cuts, I would not know," said Castiel. "But what are the odds?"
"Then we need blood from the werewolf, just in case," claimed Sam.
"There is no body," said Castiel. "Viktor ate it. He burned it up and ate the remains."
"Viktor ate a werewolf?" George asked in disbelief. "Who is Viktor?"
"Never you mind," Dean told him.
"Now, what are the names of the people who are sheltering you?" asked Jody
George thought from the top of his head, "Brad, Paul, Rich...I don't know last names."
"I have Rich's number on my cell phone," said Pud. "Umm...Rich Overholt."
"That's Zeke's father," Sam said, looking over to Jody.
"Do you suppose he knows about his father?" Castiel asked.
"Yeah," said Dean. "Vlad, Vik, and Zeke talk about everything, so they all probably know. Next chance we should discuss it with Vladimir and Viktor. Do either of you two know Bennie? He was another werewolf they had locked up."
"I don't even know George," claimed Pud.
"And I didn't know Bennie or Pud, either one," said George.
"So, nobody knows the hunters' plans." observed Jody.
The two werewolves shook their heads.
"Okay. Then how about I take you two to stay in a community of werewolves instead of you relying on humans who might not have your best interests in mind?" suggested Castiel.
"Like a wolf pack?" asked George.
"Like a wolf community," said Castiel. "Everyone watches out for each other."
The werewolves agreed. The others agreed they had all the info they needed. So Castiel prepared to take them to Garth's community.
But, before he did so, Dean asked," Hey, why do they call you Pud, anyway?"
"Oh. 'Pud' is short for Puddington, my middle name. I'm Stuart Puddington Covington."
Castiel, George and Pud disappeared.
"The guy's name is Stu Pud," Dean snickered after they had left.
"Are we done here?" Jody asked.
"Yeah," affirmed Sam. "We won't need Cas for us to leave this time. Sioux Falls to Chicago isn't that far and Dean hasn't had much time on the road with his Baby."
Only a few hours later, the Winchesters were sitting in Dean's car outside Belladonna's building in Chicago. Plywood still encircled the building, blocking the view to the first story. Our boys scoped out the activity around it and Dean found a spot across from a nearby neighborhood bar to park. They got out of the car dressed as much like building inspectors as they could.
"I'll have to take Andy to this bar tonight while you and Jill check out Belladonna at her hotel. The staff has probably heard from the workers what's going on at her building," Dean mused.
"Still following through on this wingman thing, huh?" Sam mumbled as he read his smart phone. "Jill and Andros are on the outskirts of town so we only have a few minutes to look around"
Once behind the barrier, Dean and Sam noticed a person could easily move about the structure Belladonna was having built. There was an elevator, but the Winchesters took a back stairway. Dean went up and Sam went down.
The door on the top floor was locked, the lock was easy to jimmy. Dean let himself in.
Decorating was almost complete. The rooms had tan and bronze shag carpeting with such a thick pile it made one want to run across it barefoot. The woodwork and furniture was a glaring mix of mahogany and a bright orange padauk. Zebra skin and lion skin fabrics and some obviously illegal ivory and rhino horn lent to the illusion that someone had thrown every shade of brown and gray crayons into the rooms and they melted where ever they landed.
Sam was in the basement where the only few workers were. He flashed his inspector's form which only confused the non-English-speaking men. They left him to inspect at will.
There was an automatic garage door and a back door. The electrical line and cable ran to a wall across the middle of the basement and spread out from there. Behind the wall were sinks and vats beside three chutes, obviously for a laundry room. The water line entered in this part and ran through the water heater. A third line led from a large tarp-covered vat, ran through a pump, and joined the cold and hot water lines to run up into the story above. Sam had no clue what would be in the vat and where it would be pumped.
The workers became agitated and Sam sensed two vampires approaching the back door. One of the workers must have called someone about a stranger being there. The elevator door worked, so Sam stepped in. But the buttons inside did not let it go to another level. He stood there and waited.
He heard the English voices speaking. The vampires. Sam was not armed so he scrawled an 'O' on the side of the elevator and crisscrossed the 'O' with a 'Z.' There was always someone in Glinda's mirrored ballroom. With luck, someone would recognize him and he could escape.
One of the vampires finally called the elevator and doors opened. Sam pressed the door shut button and held it. The doors shut.
It did not hold the vampires at bay for long. One of them had the elevator key and used it to force the doors opened again. Both of them prepared to nab Sam.
But this time Sam was not there.
But Captain Fyter was.
He stepped out of the elevator and crossed his metal arms in front of the startled bad guys. A sword extended from each arm and he uncrossed his arms, cleanly lopping off the heads of both vampires.
The shocked workers scrambled to be the first out of the back door.
"Thanks, Beau," Sam said to the metal man. "I owe you. I need to find Dean now."
The captain passed back through the side of the elevator into Glinda's ballroom where he had been summoned to help.
Upstairs, the bathroom vied for largest room in the suite. Alabaster colors in the walls and tiles and gold pipes. The tub was huge, long enough for a man to lie in it with his arms above his head. Dean climbed in and laid down to test the fact. He jumped when someone in the room cleared his throat.
"We should have brought him his Mr. Bubble," Sam told Jill and Andros in the doorway.
Dean ignored him. "Sammy, look. The faucet has three valves. What is there besides hot and cold?"
"I suppose for the three lines in the basement," Sam replied. "One line goes to a vat and I'm afraid to think what a vampire needs a third line for."
"They say Belladonna bathes in blood," said Andros. "It looks like she has a special line to draw blood to her bath. We've got to kill her as soon as we can."
