Linda grunted, trying not to yell at her brother who had come to visit. "Look, Jimmy. You're my brother, I'm spiritually obligated to love you, but not to give you money."
"Come on, Linda. Please?" Jimmy begged.
"No."
Danny came in the house, forgetting his brother-in-law was visiting. Seeing him, the detective shook his head, "I need a beer.."
"Lemme get that for you, Danny,"
Jimmy offered.
"I can do it."
"No, lemme do it."
"Fine. Whatever," Danny gave in, not wanting to argue. "Get him out." He whispered to Linda.
"Look, I know Jimmy isn't your favorite person, but he is your in-law. Be nice," she hissed through grites teeth as Jimmy handed Danny the beer.
"Thanks," the detective said flatly.
"Anything for my sister's husband," Jimmy said, a little to happily for Danny's liking.
"Hey, Linda?" Danny said weakly, gripping the counter, about an hour later.
"What's the matter?" She did not like that tone.
"I don't feel so good... like... I ate something?" He stepped forward, but stumbled.
Linda caught her husband and lowered them to the floor. "Okay, just calm down. I'm gonna call poison control."
"You have poison control on speed dial?"
"Yes, now hush! Don't talk... Yes, I think my husband just ate something poisonous. I'm not sure what it was, but he's showing some signs... Linda Reagan... Yes, that's him... alright, thank you." Linda hung up. "Don't worry, they're comin'."
"Is he okay?" Jimmy wondered, hovering over them.
"He will be." Linda whispered, "I hope", as Danny slipped into unconsciousness.
"What?" Linda couldn't believe her ears.
"Where the hell would he get chloral hydrate anyways? That hasn't been used since, like, the last century." The doctor told her.
"Oh, I have an idea. Excuse me," she smiled tightly and walked over to her brother. "James O'Shea!" She shouted.
"Hey, is Danny okay? You look mad. Are you mad?"
"I'm as mad as hell! How dare you? How dare you slip Danny a mickey? Huh? He's been nothing but helpful to you, and you go and do this. Did you think it was funny? Did you forget that I'm a nurse? I know what chloral hydrate is! Lucky for you, it just puts someone to sleep-"
"Linda, I'm sorry. I thought it'd be funny-"
"Funny? You think poisoning my husband is funny? You think drugging the father of my kids, the best detective in New York... is funny? Well, no more, Jimmy! No more! I'm officially cutting you off from the family. No more money or gifts or anything is gonna be coming your way."
"Chill out, Linda."
"Chill out? I'll give ya chill out," before she knew what she was doing, she punched her brother in the nose with all her might, sending him into the floor. "You mess with my Danny, you mess with me!" She turned on her heel and stormed away from her brother. She was unaware that a set of eyes had been watching the whole thing. And as soon as she had punched her brother, the watcher ran to Danny's room, itching to tell him.
Linda walked into Danny's room, "hi." She smiled sweetly at her husband.
"Hey. I'm so proud of you," he smiled at her, rubbing her lower back.
"Thank you, but why?"
"For one, you saved my life-"
"Danny, it was a prehistoric pill, you'd be just as fine if I hadn't done anything. You'll be outta here in thirty minutes or so."
"Still. And you stood up to your brother. I wasn't aware you were that strong."
"You heard about that, huh?"
"Jack told me. Said he saw the whole thing."
Linda sighed, "if they mess with you, they'll have to mess with me."
Danny smiled and moved over, letting Linda sit next to him. "I see I've taught you well."
She smirked, "very well. I'm just glad you're okay."
"I am, too. And as soon as we kick Jimmy out, I'm gonna thank you for this." He nibbled her ear, making her giggle. "I love you."
"I love you more."
"I love you the most." He kissed her head, snaking his arm around her shoulders, protecting her from any dangers.
