Chapter 57
There was a strange whistling noise that surrounded Kara, it was quiet at first but was quickly getting louder and louder, in her semi-conscious she couldn't work out what it was, it was almost unbearable now in volume, but there was another sensation too, like something raking over all of her skin, her loose hair being pulled, her body trembling
Something in the back of mind told her that she was in danger but she couldn't work out why, what was happening to her? Her mind was heavy and clouded
She needed to wake up a voice said within her, the voice was familiar, it wasn't her own, but she trusted this voice and struggled against the weariness that enclosed around her
She struggled to open her eyes, it was relatively dark but there was a white circular light above her, she squinted at it, realising it wasn't a light, it was the moon. With a nasty shock she realised that the whistling sound was the night air whipping past her, she was tumbling through the sky
She gasped and spun, her eyes focusing on the rapidly approaching ground below, she could see a city, she was almost at the top skyscrapers, the street lights and cars below getting clearer
Her mind was still clouded, she needed to do something, she needed to stop herself
FLY
The voice called, echoing through her mind
FLY KARA
The blonde shook her head trying to clear it, her body kicking in and using all of her will power she slowed her descent, but the street was still approaching rapidly, she gritted her teeth in exertion
She maneuvered her body so she would land feet first, she impacted hard, she landed with such force that the surrounding concrete cracked and he was a foot down into it, the blonde straightened and looked around, people were staring at her, she couldn't blame them at the entrance she had made
"Hi" she said, she glanced down at the broken sidewalk "Sorry about that"
She glanced around at the buildings, they were not ones she recognised, she was definitely not in National City, she caught a glance of a street sign, she couldn't read them, a few of the letters had lines through them and dots above them, so she figured that she was probably not even in the United States anymore
She hopped out of her little ditch and approached a young couple, they were still staring at Kara wide eyed, but the woman's eyes dropped to Kara's outfit, seeing the symbol on her torso
"Supergirl" she said with a heavy accent, possibly European but Kara could not be sure
Kara smiled and did an awkward little wave
The couple began talking excitedly, it definitely wasn't English, the man grabbed a phone from his pocket and after a moment turned it to Kara, she saw a picture of herself, there was a large headline over the top of it but again it was in a language she couldn't read nor understand
"Um" she looked up at him "English?" she asked hoping that it was understandable to them
He frowned for a moment before his eyebrows raised in understanding "Oh, Engelsk" he returned to his phone, tapping it a few more times before turning it and handing it to the blonde
Kara's eyes scanned the text which was now readable to her
Still no word on the disappearance of Supergirl, the hero has now been missing for over fortnight, the other Kryptonian hero, Superman, has been off world in search of his fellow alien brethren. Many have cities around the world have already paid tribute to the missing hero, but with still no sign many are starting to lose hope that she will return.
Kara exhaled, so she had been gone for the same amount of time, she needed to get back home, she thanked the couple, handing back the phone to them, she turned and took a breath, bending her knees as she readied herself to fly, as she leapt the usual feeling wasn't there and she stumbled back onto the floor, she glanced down at her own body, she felt weakened
She turned around to face the couple again, they watched her with a confused look on their faces, she walked back to them sheepishly
"Um" she started, knowing that they didn't know English and she didn't know their language so she did the only thing that she could think of and did the dumb tourist sign language thing. She pointed at herself then made a pretend phone with her hand, holding it to her ear
The man handed back the phone to her, she felt bad because his phone bill was going to be huge if he didn't have a good plan on it, she punched in the American dial number then recalled he digits she needed, she held the phone to her ear and waited while it rung, it rang for a long time.
She glanced at the phone and saw the time at the top, it was the early hours here, wherever here was, God only knew what time it was in the States
"Hello?"
Kara's heart leapt
"Alex" she said, a smile growing over her features at the sound of her sister's voice
"Kara?" she heard her exclaim "Where are you? What happened? Are you okay?" her words rushed out of her
"Not sure, long story, pretty much" she answered each of her sister's questions "My abilities seem to be drained and I can't fly home, I was wondering if I could catch a ride" she asked
She heard voices behind Alex's she was sure it was Winn
"Where?!" Alex said
Kara stayed quiet
"What the hell are you doing in Östersund?" she demanded
"What?!" the blonde asked "Where the hell is that?"
"Sweden"
Kara whirled around, staring at the city she was in
"Yer, um… Can you come get me?"
Alex sighed "As if you even need to ask, but it's going to take some time" there was a pause "Try and get to the airport"
Kara exhaled exhaustedly "Easy said than done, I don't speak the language" she smiled at the couple that were still watching her, they returned it though like her she found this extremely awkward
"According to Winn the word for airport is… what? Flyg-Flyg" she stammered as Winn was repeating it louder "Flygplats"
"Right" she approached the man and woman "Um… flygplats?" she attempted, feeling like a fool
"Ja" he said, The blonde knew that one, it was probably the extent of her Swedish
He signalled her to follow as they took a right turn
"I will see you there" Alex said "Stay smart, stay safe"
