Endgame Blues P1
It was finally the boy's day off.
Colby had been repeatedly rambling on and on about this day for over a month.
He bounced up and down on the spot excitedly as himself, Joe, Jon, Bryan and Phil stood in line at the Cinema.
When it was their time to be served, Colby shoved Joe hard in the back to get him up to the cashier quicker.
The Samoan turned around and glared at his smaller friend.
"Man, I know you're excited, but could you stop with the physical abuse?" he asked him half-heartedly.
Phil and Bryan chuckled from behind them.
"How can I help you gentlemen?" the kind female cashier asked them.
"Hi, can I get five adult tickets for Avengers: Endgame please?" Joe asked her.
The girl nodded as she went about printing their tickets.
After paying her by card, Joe moved over to let the next group of people waiting in line pay for their selected movie choice.
"Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie" Colby persisted as he held his hand out for his ticket.
Joe huffed as he gave the smaller man what he'd practically demanded.
"Dude, you seriously need to calm down" the tattooed man told him.
"Calm down? Did you just seriously say that to me?" Colby asked him.
Jon rolled his eyes.
He also looked on sympathetically at Joe who he knew was about to get an earful from their smaller friend.
"Do you have ANY idea how long I've been waiting for this movie to come out? Do you? Do you know how hard it was to not look online to find spoilers? Do you understand how heart-breaking it was, to know that some of the guys at work had gone to see this before me, and could relish in the joy that is the next MCU masterpiece while I had to wait weeks…weeks Joe, to be able to see it myself?" Colby asked him, panting slightly from his long-winded whine.
Joe looked to Jon and then back to Colby.
In situations like this, it was best to tell the man what he wanted to hear.
Especially when it related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"You're right Colby, I don't know what I was thinking. How foolish of me?" the Samoan told him blankly.
Colby squinted at his friend.
He knew he was mocking him, but he didn't care.
He was too excited to care what his friend thought of his unrestrained eagerness.
After chuckling at them both, Bryan asked what screen the movie was being shown in.
"It's screen three" Phil told him.
"Ok, here's the plan. We all need to go to the bathroom and then go to get our refreshments. Remember, don't order the large sized drink and don't order anything that is too loud to chew" Colby told them.
"What?" Bryan asked confused.
Jon, Joe and Phil sighed while Colby rolled his eyes.
"Bryan, when it comes to Colby and the MCU movies, its kind of like dealing with Sheldon from Big Bang talking about 'his spot'" Jon told him.
Bryan knew who Sheldon was, and knew of his spot, but he didn't understand the comparability to Colby and the MCU.
Colby's eyes narrowed once again at the man's utter lack of knowledge when it came to cinema viewings of his favourite movie franchise in existence.
"Ok, let me break it down for you" Jon began.
"When you go to the movies to see a Marvel movie, and Colby has kindly allowed you to join him, there are a few rules you must obey by, or forever suffer the wrath of his never-ending wining and bitching" he told him.
"Rule number one, you must NEVER order the large sized drink. You'll only need to go to the bathroom half way through the movie and it will end up causing a chain reaction of other people then needing to use the bathroom, thus causing the possibility that someone may get in the way of the screen and block out a pivotal moment of the movie" he explained.
"Rule number two. You can't buy ANY food that creates too much noise while chewing. For example, no chips, no peanut-based sweets such as M&M's, as they create too loud a crunch" he told him.
At this point, Bryan thought the man was joking.
It was only the nods of agreement coming from Joe and Phil that told him how serious he was being.
"Rule number three. NO asking questions. If you don't hear something a character has said, listen harder. If you miss something pivotal that sets up an important part of the movie, well, more fool you" Jon added.
"Trust me. He is not above slapping or pinching you in the middle of a crowded theatre. He even bit me once" he told the smaller man who gasped in response.
"You bit him?" Bryan asked.
Colby sniffed, as he raised his hand and ran his thumb along the tips of his fingers dramatically.
"I have these rules for a reason. Failure to follow them is your own careless mistake, thus allowing me to exact a punishment that I deem fitting" he told him.
Bryan looked from Jon, to Joe, to Phil, then back to Colby.
"And you all follow these rules?" he asked them, shocked by their complacency.
"Of course they do" Colby told him matter of factly.
"They've learnt over the years just how petulant and juvenile I can be when you do me wrong. Trust me, it's not worth the hassle of breaking the rules" he added warningly.
Bryan couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Three grown men following rules set out by their smaller friend without question.
"Sooo, basically, you're like a mini dictator?" Bryan asked the two-toned haired man.
"Yes" Joe, Jon and Phil said at the same time.
Bryan still couldn't believe it.
"This is insane. You realise that, right?" he asked his friends.
Joe clapped a hand on the smaller man's shoulder.
"Dude, you're not the one that has to go home with him later. Please don't do anything to piss him off, or Jon and I and will never hear the end of it" he pleaded.
"And neither will you" Phil added, knowing first hand what a motor mouth Colby could be.
"Fine" Bryan agreed reluctantly.
"Great. Now that, that has been settled, we have exactly fifteen minutes to go to the bathroom and buy our refreshments before the movie starts" Colby told them all happily as he walked in the direction of the men's toilet.
After emptying their bladders, the three men were stood in line to buy a drink and snacks.
Bryan ordered a small Pepsi and a packet of Red Vines.
"Nope, can't get those" Phil told his friend.
"Oh my God, are you serious?" the bearded man asked.
Phil nodded.
"WHY?" the smaller man asked, exasperated.
"Because the opening of the packet breaks the no noisy food rule" the tattooed man told him.
Bryan glared, irritated.
"Fine. I'll open the packet BEFORE we go into the movie" he said perplexed.
Phil smiled.
"There ya go. You're learning already" he said as he chuckled at Bryan's annoyed glare towards him.
After they all bought what they wanted, the five of them began to make their way into the screening room.
Joe and Jon knowingly let Colby go in first.
He had to find the perfect place to sit and they knew that it could take a few minutes.
"Oh my God. What's he doing now?" Bryan asked, as he watched Colby go from one seat to another.
"He's finding the perfect seat" Jon told him.
"Not too close to the speakers that it will give him a headache, but not to far away that it will ruin the surround sound either. He also never sits in a seat closest to the isle, because then, he can avoid having his view cut off by people needing to go to the bathroom" he added.
After finally finding the perfect seat, Colby waved a hand to show that his friends could now join him.
"I'm never coming to the cinema with him again" Bryan whispered to Phil who laughed loudly in response.
After an annoying number of adverts and movie trailers, the lights in the cinema dimmed and Colby shushed his friends into silence as the film began.
"So, what have they all gone to see again?" Nikki asked her sister.
"Avengers: Endgame" Brie told her before she loaded a generous amount of popcorn into her mouth.
"And that's what? A new Batman or Superman movie?" Nikki questioned.
Saraya, Brie and AJ gasped loudly.
"Thank God Colby isn't here to hear you say that" AJ laughed.
"Why?" Nikki asked her.
"He's really protective of the MCU" the smaller woman told her.
Nikki had no idea what the woman was talking about.
"Oh my God, MCU means Marvel Cinematic Universe. They make all the movies like Iron Man, Thor and Captain America" she told her.
"He's the one with the star on the shield, right?" Nikki asked.
AJ nodded in confirmation.
After swallowing her popcorn and having some water, Brie picked up her phone to message Bryan.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you" Saraya warned her knowingly.
"Why not?" the vegan asked her friend.
"Because of the rules" AJ told her, as she flicked through a magazine.
"What rules?" Brie questioned as she put another handful of popcorn in her mouth.
AJ and Saraya looked at one another before chuckling.
"Colby has a set of rules, that anyone that goes to the cinema with him has to follow" AJ told her.
"Failure to adhere to said rules, results in a punishment of his choosing" Saraya added.
"Are you guys serious?" Nikki asked disbelievingly.
Both women nodded.
"He can get violent too" AJ told them.
"Seriously?" Brie asked mid chew.
"Oh yeah. He bit Jon on the shoulder once" AJ told her as she picked up a Red Vine.
"He bit Jon on the shoulder?" Brie repeated, thinking she'd heard wrong.
"Yep. Jon didn't hear what one of the characters had said and asked Colby to repeat the line and WHAM…turned and sunk his teeth right into his shoulder" Saraya told the twins.
"You're joking?" Brie asked.
Saraya shook her head.
"I'd NEVER joke about Colby's cinema rules" she told her friend.
"I hope Bryan's ok" Brie sent a worried glance to her sister.
"Don't worry. I told Phil to fill him in on everything to keep him safe" AJ told her.
"You're an angel" Brie said before giving her friend a hug.
As the girls continued to converse with one another, they heard a knock on their hotel room door.
Saraya got up and opened the door to find Kofi with a pensive expression on his face.
"Hey Kofi, what's up?" she asked as she opened the door wider to let him into the room.
"Hey ladies" he said as he waved at them all.
"Are you ok?" Brie asked him.
"Yeah, I'm good. Listen. Is it true that the boys went to go and see the new Avenger movie today?" he asked them.
The girls nodded.
He sighed.
"Listen. They're going to be…different, when they get back to the hotel" he told them.
"Different?" Nikki asked.
Kofi nodded.
"Different, how?" AJ asked confused.
"Just, trust me" he told them.
"They're going to need a lot of support from you ladies" he added.
Now, all four girls were confused.
"What is it you guys do when you break up with a man? You go through that wallowing period, right?" he asked.
"Only the bad breakups, yeah" Saraya confirmed.
"Ok, and you do what? Sit around eating junk food to try and numb the pain?" he asked.
"Basically" Nikki said with a nod of agreement.
"Ok, well, that's what they're going to do for the next few days. Colby especially" he warned them.
"What are you talking about?" Brie asked him.
"Just. Trust me" he told her.
"While they're still at the movies, I suggest stocking up on junk food and ice cream and soda and any other crap you girls gorge on when you're feeling sad or premenstrual" he warned.
"And tissues" he added.
The girls exchanged confused glances.
"O.K" Nikki told him.
"Is there anything else?" she asked.
"I've already said too much" Kofi said bizarrely before exiting their hotel room.
It was silent for a few seconds.
"What the hell was that about?" Saraya asked.
Before Nikki was able to answer her, another knock sounded on the door.
It was Stephen, who looked like a complete wreck.
His mohawk wasn't mohawked.
It hung limply to his head and he had the same downtrodden look on his face.
"Hey. I heard that the boys went to see the new Avenger movie today, and well…I bought them these" he said, handing over five boxes of Red Vines to Saraya.
"What are these for?" she asked him.
He looked up at her.
"For the boys. They'll need them when they get back" he said, his Irish accent seemingly thicker with his unspoken sadness.
"Ok. Thank you" Saraya said as she slowly closed the door.
She turned to look at her friends.
"What is going on with all of them today?" she asked.
Little did the women know, they would soon be looking after five, emotionally distraught men.
To be continued…
