Endgame Blues P2

After Stephen had left, the girls decided that it might be best if they went online to try and make sense of the cryptic information that they'd been given.

AJ winged it and simply typed in 'Avengers: Endgame' into the search bar on her phone.

"Ok. I've got something" she announced aloud.

"What does it say?" Nikki asked her.

"Ok. Ok. Uh huh. Um hmm. Ok. Oook. Oh no" she said with a gasp.

"What?" Brie asked.

"What did you find?" Saraya asked.

AJ swallowed deeply.

"Let's just say that Kofi and Stephen were right" she told them.

Brie and Nikki looked at each other confused.

"What did it say?" Saraya asked as she took her friends phone out of her hand.

Saraya scrolled down the article that AJ had found and she too gasped once she got to the end.

"Whaaaaat? What does it say" Nikki asked again, desperate to know what her friends had found.

"Iron Man" AJ said quietly, still in shock herself.

"Iron Man? Iron Man, what?" Brie asked her.

"He dies" Saraya told them.

Nikki snorted.

"Listen. I might not know a lot about the DCU" she started.

"MCU" AJ and Saraya corrected her at the same time.

Nikki rolled her eyes.

"MCU, whatever. I might not know a lot about it, but I know that there is no way they'd kill off Iron Man. He's like what? The strongest and most important Avenger?" she asked.

"That's a matter of opinion" AJ told her.

"Yeah, that answer would vary depending on who you asked" Saraya added with a nod.

"Nikki, don't you remember, what, three, four years ago when that Captain America movie came out. It was like, Iron Man against Captain America or something and the boys were arguing about it for weeks after. Colby and Phil nearly ended up physically fighting about it" Brie reminded her sister as she picked up a fresh strawberry.

"Colby was totally team Iron Man while Phil was all for Captain America" she added before taking a bite of the fruit.

"Oh yeah, I remember that" AJ said with a nod.

"I remember being woken up at stupid hours of the night by Phil's phone going off where Colby was arguing his opinion on whatever the hell it was they were arguing about" she told her friends.

Nikki rolled her eyes again.

"It's just a movie" she said aloud.

Brie, AJ and Saraya chuckled knowingly.

"Again, you're lucky that the boys aren't here to hear you say that" Saraya told her.

"To them, its more then just as movie. It's a way of life" she added.

"It's a religion" AJ chimed in.

Brie laughed out loud at her friend's comments.

"Well I think its ridiculous" Nikki said as she got up off of the bed from where she'd been sitting.

AJ felt the need to protect the men in their lives from her dismissive attitude.

"Haven't you ever felt so strongly about something that you would fight for it at any chance you got?" she asked.

Nikki stood and thought for a few seconds.

"Not that I can think of" she told her friend.

"Oh please" her twin said with a snigger.

"Whaaat?" Nikki asked exasperated.

"You were so depressed that they killed off McDreamy that you refused to watch any new episodes of Grey's Anatomy, and then spent nearly three days explaining to me how it was a terrible move for the show writers to make" Brie told her.

AJ and Saraya turned to look at the woman with questioning glances.

Nikki clucked her tongue loudly.

"It WAS a stupid move" she argued.

"They could have just written him out. They didn't have to kill him off" she added.

Her friends and sister chuckled at her.

"See. You do know what its like to feel strongly about something" AJ told her.

Nikki processed everything that had been said.

"Ok. Fine. I admit that it may have been harsh to brush off the guy's sensitivity to the DCU" she said.

"MCU" AJ and Saraya reminded her again.

"Again, whatever. But, I get what you mean now, about how they must be feeling" she told them.

The girls thought about it all for a few minutes.

"Colby is going to be in pieces" Saraya told them.

The girls nodded in agreement.

"Maybe Stephen and Kofi were right" Brie told them.

"Maybe we should think about preparing for their arrival once the movie's over" she added.

They all agreed.

"You know the drill ladies. Junk food and ice cream only" Saraya said as though rallying troops.

"Operation Wallow is in full swing" AJ saluted as the girls grabbed their wallets and bags.

Back at the cinema, the movie had just ended, and while the other viewers were making their way down the stairs to leave, the group of wrestlers were sat in stunned silence.

Colby was clutching his chest, breathing erratically, his eyes darting spasmodically.

"They didn't…they…he…they…" he couldn't finish what he was saying.

"Is this a joke? It's a joke, right?" Phil asked aloud, his hand also on his chest in complete disbelief.

"That was harsh" Jon said, eyes closed as he sat rubbing his temples.

"I was SO not prepared for that" Bryan said, his arms folded with a scowl on his face in irritation at what he'd just watched.

Joe leant forward and wiped a hand over his face sighing loudly.

"I want to go home" Colby said sadly as his lower lip quivered.

Joe turned to look at his friend and saw the utter heartbreak etching the man's handsome features.

"Me too" Phil said as he wiped at his eyes.

They all stood up wordlessly and descended the stairs before exiting the building.

They walked to the local subway station and boarded the train back to the hotel in complete silence.

Back at the hotel, the girls had just arrived back with an assortment of bags containing an insane amount of junk food.

"Ugh, why did we buy so much?" Nikki asked, as she dropped the bags she was holding onto the bed and rubbed at her aching shoulders from their weight.

"Because they're boys. You know how much they can eat. Factor in that they're going to be absolutely miserable for the next few days, add it together and wham…there's your answer" Saraya told her.

The four women quickly set about making the beds and arranging it how they would if they were healing a broken heart.

They closed the curtains and switched on the bedside lamps, casting the room into a sombre glow.

They then set about laying the junk food around in easy to reach places, while also distributing boxes of tissues that Brie had remembered to buy for easy access.

"Are we forgetting anything?" Brie asked.

The women looked around.

"No. I think we've covered everything" Nikki told her.

It was quiet for a few seconds before Saraya suddenly remembered something absolutely vital in the wallowing process.

"Oh, quick, we need to go to their rooms and get them some comfortable clothes" she told them.

"Of course. How could we forget something so pivotal?" Brie said, as they picked up the room keys the guys had given them, so they wouldn't lose them while they were out.

They girls hurriedly walked down the hall in two groups of two to get the clothes they needed.

Brie and AJ went into Bryan and Phil's shared room and went over to their bags searching for sweat pants and a comfortable top for each of them.

Saraya and Nikki went into Joe, Colby and Jon's room and quickly found their suitcases.

"Ok, what should we get?" Nikki asked.

"Something comfortable, preferably sweatpants. That way they won't feel tight on their stomachs once they've consumed their body weight in junk food" Saraya told her.

Nikki nodded before going about searching though Colby's clothes while Saraya went through Joe's.

"Ok, I got stuff picked out" Nikki said after a minute or so.

"Me too. Let's grab something for Jon" Saraya added as both girls made their way over to his case.

They selected a pair of dark grey sweats and after rooting through his never folded pile of clothing, Nikki found the top that he would always steal of Colby's to sleep in while they were on the road.

"Ok. Got it" she announced as they quickly made their way back to their own room.

They walked inside to find AJ and Brie folding their boyfriends' clothes and putting them into separate piles on the bed.

Saraya and Nikki followed suit as they added The Shield boy's clothing to the pile.

After that was done, it was simply a waiting game until the boys arrived back to the hotel.

The girls had been sat for about twenty minutes when a slow, uneven knock on the door was heard.

They looked at one another and prepared themselves for what was to come.

Brie walked over to the door and after receiving nods of affirmation from her sister and friends, she slowly opened the door.

The girls remembered to keep themselves calm and empathetic towards the men.

Said men, slowly walked into the room.

Their red rimmed eyes held within them, emotional pain and suffering of epic proportions.

The girls looked at one another, suddenly feeling underprepared towards the situation.

Brie walked over to Bryan and hugged him.

"Are you ok sweetie?" she asked him.

He shook his head.

"No" he said barely above a whisper.

AJ walked over to Phil and hugged him also.

"Hey handsome. You ok?" she asked him sweetly.

He just shook his head, eyes looking forward, but unseeing.

Saraya walked over to Colby who was pale faced and sniffling.

"Oh Colby" she said, as she wrapped him into a warm embrace.

"Was it bad?" Brie asked Bryan.

He nodded.

"It was worse" Jon said aloud.

"Worse?" Brie repeated sympathetically.

"What could be worse then bad?" Nikki asked.

Brie sent her sister a glare and shook her head once.

Nikki took a deep breath before walking over to Jon.

She took a hold of his hand and rubbed his arm up and down in a comforting manner.

"We heard what happened" she told him.

"I'm really sorry for your loss you guys" she said to the men.

She again received a disproving look from her sister.

AJ looked up at Phil and stroked her hand down his face.

"Is it true? About the end of the movie?" she asked.

All the men nodded.

The girls looked to one another again, unsure of what to say or do next.

"We got you some ice cream and junk food" Nikki announced, hoping to break the silence.

Joe shook his head.

"I don't think I can eat right now" he told her sadly.

It was Colby who broke the silence next.

"They just…killed him off. Just like that. Natasha too. She didn't even get to…say goodbye" he said, choking out the last few words.

Brie took her bottom lip between her teeth as she looked at her friend sadly.

"Do you want to sit down maybe?" AJ asked them all.

The boys gave a small nod each as they went into different directions in the room, each finding somewhere to sit.

Colby sniffled again, so Saraya leant forward and took a tissue from one of the boxes they'd bought and handed it to him.

He then proceeded to loudly blow his nose.

"Was it just Iron Man and Natasha that…died?" AJ asked, the last word causing all the men to flinch.

They nodded.

"Steve left" Phil said quietly.

"He left?" AJ asked him.

He nodded.

"Where did he go?" Nikki asked.

"He just…left. Left his best friend behind, to go back in time to a woman that he barely knew. Left his best friend behind like he was…nothing" he told her sadly.

"And Bucky let him. Didn't stop him. Because he knew that he wasn't enough to keep Steve with him. After everything they'd been through…Steve just…left" he added.

AJ stroked his back comfortingly.

"And Tony…he gave up his life to save everyone. Natasha too. She just…accepted her fate and let herself fall" Colby mumbled sadly.

"But Tony…he didn't even get to see Morgan grow up" he added as fresh tears began to fall.

Saraya quickly grabbed another tissue and dabbed the tears away gently.

The girls look to each other.

Nothing of what the boys were saying made any sense to them, but it clearly made sense to the people saying it.

"Are you hungry?" Brie asked Bryan.

He shook his head.

"Are you sure?" she asked him.

"We got plenty of snacks while we were out" she told him.

"I even bought some bread and some peanut butter a jelly if you want me to make you a PB and J sandwich" she added.

As soon as the words left her mouth, the boys groaned and scrunched their faces in pain as though someone had just ripped out their hearts and stomped on them.

The girls looked at Brie wide eyed.

What was so painful about the offer of a PB and J sandwich?

Clearly, whatever it was, she knew not to make the same mistake again.

After telling the boys to get into their change of clothes, the girls took turns rotating to each man, offering comforting hugs and a shoulder to cry on.

An hour or so later, Jon leant forward from his place on the bed and grabbed a bag of chocolate raisins.

After he started eating, the other men seemed to follow suit, and all picked something to chow down on.

This was progress.

After all, eating the pain away was the first step to recovering from a broken heart.
