Molly:
Downstairs, the team watched Legion phase in and out, becoming opaque and translucent, gritting his teeth and groaning audibly and clearly straining to keep himself together, a presence in the world. He was no longer trying to fight them off, but keep himself from being destroyed by Charles and Jean.
Molly was astounded at this turn of events, but everyone knew better than to say a single word. The Professor and Jean needed all their concentration for this. All that said, she wasn't surprised when Remy gripped her hand silently. She squeezed back. Jean and the Professor had to make it out of this, otherwise all was lost. If Legion couldn't be stopped, not even the X-Men's most valiant efforts would hinder him at all if the world's most powerful telepath could do nothing against Legion. The world would be his plaything and he would be able to change it on a whim.
Molly looked over at Cyclops. He wasn't touching Jean at all and there was tension in his face. However, even Molly knew what he was thinking, because she was thinking it to. Something like, Come on Jean, you can do this. If anyone can destroy this freak, it's you and the professor.
The team was behind them fully, like always. Molly just wondered if support and unwavering belief would be enough.
In David's Mind:
After a few moments, Legion seemed weakened enough where the Professor could jump in and help Jean. He went at it full force, fully intent on obliterating the evil that had taken over David, not for seconds, but for years! Charles opened his heart and let his mind unleash a barrage of power only seen once before, in the fight with Apocalypse. Legion's form started disappearing further and further, his waist now half gone.
Charles pushed on, intent on destroying this evil. It seemed to take every breathe out of him, every ounce of his concentration was strained, but Charles wasn't going to ease up at all. Even if it killed him, he would save David. Even if it meant they'd never see each other again, he would die knowing David was safe from Legion taking over his mind ever again.
Legion started pushing back with what strength he had left, a mental blast of energy pushing Jean and Charles back several feet. Charles braced his body, groaning as he mentally grabbed on and started crushing Legion's form down into nothing, like grinding rock into dust. Legion gave another hearty whack at them with all his might, slapping them back like swarming flies, again and again until Jean simply obliterated his hands into pixel-like fragments. "I can't do much more, Professor! I'm sorry!" Jean shouted, looking terrified, seeming to sweat buckets, even here on the mental plane.
Legion fought back like the strongest horse against a rider, determined not to be destroyed. Not to leave the innocent world he could torment and use for his own twisted schemes. To take over, to make everyone a slave, able to do his bidding. Control the weak, weed out the useless, take down the strong. He lashed out again, not needing hands, but his power was weakening with every hit Charles threw. Legion's body shuddered. He tried to regain strength of his mind, to refuel his powers, but even though he could tell his time was almost up, he was lost in his own grandeur.
Charles kept fighting, pushing out every bit of mental energy he could, bracing himself to unleash the final death blow.
"Charles!" Legion screamed, "I'm eternal. You can't destroy me! I'll live on forever in your son's mind, haunting the crevices day and night, driving him insane until _he_ is nothing but a shell. I will twist him. I will ruin David!"
"You are a thought!" Charles yelled back, "An imprint. Worse, you've been a symbiote sucking on my only son's mind. I will not allow you to torment him further. Your time is done, Legion. I won't allow you to harm him anymore. You are nothing. NOTHING!"
With one final burst of energy from Charles, Legion disappeared in a burst of green light, blinding them both, never to be seen again.
