Moonpriestess30: Yeah Garrett's OTP is FenrisxKatza

Chapter 56 – Bark is worse than the bite?

Garrett waited for Makatza at the bottom of their stairs and spotted her as she came out her room. 'Are you sure you don't want me to bring any weapons?' She asked as she crossed the landing, she held a rather large vial in her hands and didn't look happy about carrying it.

'No, I don't want you in this form at all, it's too dangerous. Just stay wolf and try to keep the dogs away,' he says simply as she came down and passed him the vial to hold. 'Are you sure you're going to need this?' He asks as he looks at the clear liquid inside.

'Yes. Look if you want me to go wolf and be around a lot of blood and fight for dominance around Mabaris there's a good chance I'll go wild. Using that will knock me out and stop me from hurting anyone,' she says with a shrug of a shoulder. 'I don't want to hurt anyone like I hurt Fenris. It could have been really bad, I could have bitten his arm off,' she says rubbing her arm in embarrassment as she looked away. 'I'm not bringing the pups, they're too young for this. Orana is going to look after them,' she said mostly to herself.

'Katza,' Garrett says resting an arm on her shoulder and giving her a squeeze, 'you don't have to come if you don't want to, I can manage without you-'

'No, no it's fine. I'd rather be there. It makes sense for me seeing as I can talk to dogs,' she forces a smile. 'I've got to get used to it at some time, I mean I don't want to be sitting around for the next ten years doing nothing.'

Garrett grins and calls for Bubble, 'he'll be with you on your level and keep you safe. Just try to remember which Mabari he is,' he teases. There's a knock at the door and Bodahn opens it greeting Fenris as he comes inside. Garrett beams as he sees his friend, 'ah there you are, on time as usual. I don't know how he does it, his internal clock is just amazing.'

Makatza smiles and waves a hand weakly at him, she was too nervous to feel any sort of feeling otherwise. Normally she would be all jittery and happy about seeing him but her anxieties about tonight were cancelling that all out. Fenris raised a brow but could sense that she was tense. 'Are you not armed?' He asks simply.

'Uh, no, Garrett wants me to be wolf for as long as possible,' she explains as Garrett goes into the study to grab his lyrium potions and other things he might require for tonight.

'You are barely wearing any armour,' Fenris points out as he looks at her, she was in leggings and a blouse, that was it. 'You are not even protected from the cold let alone an offensive attack-'

'Fenris,' Makatza says softly as she can see him going down a long road of worry. She reaches out and touches his arm. 'I can't change form while wearing clothing, I have to give my clothes to Garrett to carry during this. It's why I'm wearing as little as possible and I really can't stress enough how uncomfortable about that idea I already am,' she says with intention. 'I'm doing an Isabela.'

Fenris' face flushed as he realised that she meant she was literally wearing only leggings and a blouse. 'That is something...' he says unable to string a sensible thought together.

'Yeah,' she giggles. 'Congratulations, you can have that in your head instead of worrying about me,' she grins as she turns to face Garrett who returned out the study with his bag and staff. 'So are we ready to do this?' She asks as she lets go of his arm and smiles at her cousin. Hawke nodded noticing that some of the stiffness had left his cousin with Fenris' presence. He would get them together even if he had to lock them in a room for a couple of days. 'Okay, I'll go shift,' Makatza says as she walks into the study and a few minutes later padded out with her collar and her folded clothes in her mouth. She gave her clothes to Garrett to carry and sat in front of Fenris putting the collar at his feet while Hawke attempted to put her stuff in his bag. The elf smiled and looped the collar around her neck she cheekily licked the side of his face.

'Makatza,' Fenris said with a wince, it wasn't nearly as pleasant as an actual kiss and she knew it. With a huffing laugh she booped him on the head with her wet nose and then trotted off towards the door.

Hawke snickered, 'she definitely doesn't give a fuck when she's a wolf huh,' he teases.

'She has more canine dispositions, do not read too much into it,' he replies dryly knowing full well that Makatza was in complete control but he wasn't going to tell Hawke that. Bubble seemed to be wearing a smirk and the elf kinda resented the hound for it, the Mabari followed Makatza outside as Bodahn had opened the door for her as she came close. 'Where are we going?' Fenris asks as they step into the cold, Makatza had wandered a little further off and was sniffing around trees and seemed to be talking to Bubble for the time being.

'We'll be going down towards Uncle Gamlen's and there's an alley or something around there,' Hawke says simply as he takes out the scrap of paper that he found on the dead thug the night before. 'Someone called the ''Bastard'', apparently. Seems apt,' he muses as he shrugs a shoulder and shoves it back into a pocket. He whistles at Bubble and starts to walk through the quiet streets, Makatza perks her ears up and lopes after him pausing briefly to look at Fenris and give him a woof.

'Yes, yes, I am coming,' he says amused as he picks up his speed, she chuffs at him and holds her tail high in the air.

'I thought you were supposed to be some type of legendary warrior and you can't even keep up,' she growls at him playfully.

He raises a brow, 'I feel like you are teasing me,' he chuckles as he gathered her intention. It was surprisingly easy to understand the context in which she was talking to him, the pull that he felt when she had first become a wolf had returned. He was pretty sure that this was the imprint she was talking about, it wasn't uncomfortable but it wasn't relaxing either. Fenris caught up to her and Hawke and they walked through High town towards their destination in relative silence.

Makatza was enjoying her time as she padded around the streets, the smells and sights were a little overwhelming at times especially around the spice stalls that were out during the day. She sneezed a couple of times as she inhaled a rather strong whiff of spiced pepper, Bubble laughed at her as he passed. Her sneezes sent her skittering back across the cobbles her claws clicking in the shudder, 'ugh! Fuck!' She sneezed again and shook her head in an attempt to clear her nose. 'I'm gonna smell that all night' she complained.

'I feel that it is justified,' Fenris comments as he grins at her, stroking her head as he passes. 'Come on, we are not far now,' he adds feeling a small ball of doubt and concern begin to form in his chest. Garrett nods as he meets his eye and rests his hand on his staff, he didn't trust this area even more so now that he had made quite an impact the night before. When they got to the decrepit alley by his Uncle's, the situation became clear. There were quite a few men and numerous hounds at their feet, Makatza was waiting with Bubble around the corner and was waiting for her cue. She didn't want the dogs to panic before her cousin was ready.

Garrett looked over at Fenris who had drawn his sword, 'are you the Dog Lord, Cor ''The Bastard'' Blimey?' He asked as he looked at the red haired archer.

'Aye, that's me. I 'eard what you've been doin' to my men!' He snapped as he pulled his bow out.

Garrett frowned, 'you've got one chance, stop what you're doing or I'm going to have to find a way to stop you,' he says simply. Fenris bared his teeth and felt the tension in the air, he couldn't see this going down without a fight.

'Who? You? An' this knife-ear? Fuck off,' he replies as he clicks his fingers and his men whistle at their dogs. The hounds get to their feet and start to growl, the tension began to rise rapidly.

'No, not me. Her,' Garrett says tilting his head to the entrance of the alley. Makatza heard her cue and walked slowly around the corner taking her time, in the darkness her eyes glinted and refracted in the light as she appeared. The Mabaris began to quiet as she exuded her dominance.

'The fuck is that?' The leader said looking at his men and their dogs. A couple of the hounds had even taken some steps back and there were clearly some displacement in the ranks. 'Control the damn dogs!' He commands making his men attempt to regain control. Makatza walked in front of the others, knowing that Bubble had taken his place by his master. She didn't sit, she simply stood looking at Cor, dead in the eyes as she barely controlled her temper. The wild within her screamed to be free as the threat around her grew. 'What? You think that mongrel is going to be able to kill all my dogs? Go on then, tell your mutt to attack an' we'll see what happens,' he smirks.

'Oh, I don't tell her what to do. I have no control over her. He might,' Garrett teases at Fenris.

'Really, Hawke? This is not the time,' Fenris mutters.

'So I kill the knife-ear first,' he says simply raising his bow. That's when Makatza mentally snapped and began to growl deeply, the dogs began to whimper and jump up a little as they attempted to back away. She snarled and drooled at them, warning them what should happen if they went to attack.

Makatza scratched the floor with a paw and looked at the hounds, 'run,' she growls simply. There were more whimpers and yips before the majority of the Mabaris turned tail and ran. Only the oldest and most loyal stood their ground against her albeit it with their tails between their legs. She paced in front of them, her head held low and teeth bared. Cor ''the Bastard'' Blimey shot an arrow at Makatza who moved out the way and snapped the shaft out the air, breaking it in two as she snarled at him. 'It's like that then?' She howled and looked back at Garrett and Fenris who both looked furious at the attack. Fenris caught her eyes and allowed his markings to light up, she nodded and turned towards the group of men charging at them. Her turn of speed made them jump as they commanded what was left of their war hounds at her, she tackled the closest one closing her jaws around the muscular neck of the Mabari as her weight crushed it. Bubble jumped over her and pounced on one of the trainers as a wave of fire surrounded them all. Makatza became lost in the fight as blood filled her mouth and her inner wolf felt it's bonds break free.

She tore into them, not caring as she heard their yelps of pain she was just focused on keeping them at bay. Once a couple of the Mabaris had fallen because of her jaws the others backed up and remade the previous decision of staying. Soon it was only a couple of the trainers and the leader left. Garrett impaled one of them and Fenris had crushed the windpipe of another dropping the bodies on the floor without a care. Makatza turned to Cor and felt the blood drip from her fur as she turned to face him, his face was pale and he aimed at her letting an arrow go in a vain attempt to stop what was going to happen. It hit her in the shoulder making her yalp in pain and stumble for a moment, it was the wash of burning aching pressure that knocked the wild back into it's cage. She panted and shook her head as Garrett took care of the leader. Fenris grabbed her collar and dragged her head around to look at him, satisfied that her eyes showed her true colours he swore heavily under his breath as he looks at the arrow. It wasn't the only wound she had sustained but it was the most damaging. 'Can you make it to the Hanged Man?' Fenris asks bluntly trying not to show his true concern and wishing that Garrett hadn't given the Dog Lord such a quick death.

'Yes,' Makatza nodded with a wince.

'Hawke, she is hurt,' Fenris snaps at her cousin.

Garrett searches the body and finds some evidence that he needs to prove his demise and looks at the elf, 'it would have been a lot worse, I'm just glad we got away with what we did,' he says simply as he looks at Bubble who had a few superficial wounds. 'Are you okay, boy?' He asks as he checks on his Mabari who woofs happily in return.

Makatza had already begun to walk towards the pub wincing with every step, it was quite deep in her shoulder and uncomfortable. Her mana was doing a good job of numbing the area and making it bearable to move. It was quite unlike the first time she had been hit with an arrow and for that she was really thankful. Fenris was close behind her and had to steer her around the right corner as she took the wrong turning as she was distracted, thankfully they made it to the bar without any incidents. 'Woah! woah, what the hell is that? Get that out of here!' A barman shouted across the counter at Makatza who rolled her eyes and looked at Fenris huffing at him.

'She is with me, she will not hurt anyone,' he said annoyed.

'That's your dog?' He said a little unconvinced. Johnny whispered something in his ear and the man looked a little concerned as he realised who he was talking to.

'Yes. She is mine,' Fenris states making Makatza's heart jump a little, she licks his hand and ignores the other patrons as she walks towards the stairs making the crowd part as she came through. 'Just leave her alone and there will be no problem,' he says simply as he follows her. Minutes later Garrett came through the door and started to look for his contact who seemed to be interested in rewarding him for ridding the city of trash. Katza couldn't help but whimper a little bit she walked up the stairs.

'Fuck, I am going to kill Garrett, every time I go out with him I get hit with a damn arrow. Next time I'm using him as a god damn human shield,' she complained. She sniffed along the corridor and found an empty room. 'Well, now this is mine,' she said simply as she leapt onto the bed and laid on her side.

Fenris opened the door, he spotted her nosing her way into the room. He lit a candle with a match and spread the light around as he lit more. 'I will go get your clothing and we can take care of your wounds,' he says trying to remain neutral about all of this. Makatza nods and watches him leave.

'Fuck this,' she woofs to herself as she triggers her shift in form, the arrow falls out as she changes and soon she was back to her normal half elf self. Using her good arm she wrapped herself up in the loose sheet and wiped the sweat from her forehead, she would be able to heal soon but she would need a while to naturally recover her mana. She hissed in pain as she felt a sharp bite on her thigh become noticeable. With a sigh she looked at herself, there were cuts and bites everywhere, 'typical. Get in a fight with dogs and get bitten,' she mutters as she leans back in the bed. She could close her eyes for a moment, she wasn't going to bleed to death.
