Chika's room was easy to get to, mostly because he'd done it a thousand times when his mom had thought she'd locked the door. She did, but she never locked the windows since Chika didn't know how to open them. He did, so he thumped onto her floor and woke her up.

"You're grounded," she hissed at him, but didn't shout. Becauses she'd be in trouble too and that's not on, but also because that meant admitting she was mad at him and he should say sorry without her being mad. Also it meant looking at him, which she would not do.

"I know. I just…" Her brother wrung his hands on his shorts. "I'm sorry I called your art stupid. I was just mad because the teacher yelled at me. It's really pretty and I'm glad you still remember what dad looks like."

"We have a photo, dummy."

"But you don't have to look at it."

Chika peeked through her closed eyes to see her brother looking like a kicked puppy. "I forgive you, I guess." She opened her arms and her brawling big brother climbed into them at once, already starting to bulk. "You're heavy," she told him. He shrugged and pulled her into his lap instead.

"That's better," she huffed. He laughed.
