Chapter 45 After the Fall
Sitting in the back of the town car, Mitchum turned and looked at his wife.
"Shira, I'm only going to ask you once. What did you do?"
Shira sat beside her husband and looked at him, confused, "What do you mean?"
"What happened between you and Rory Gilmore?" Mitchum whispered angrily at her.
"Nothing. Rory was standing in my way when I left the bathroom. I might have bumped into her."
Shira closed her eyes and tried to remember what she said to her. "Mitchum, she has weaved a spell on him." Grabbing her husband's arm, she continued, "We need to help Logan. Did you see him staring at her tonight? He could not take his eyes off her. I always knew there was something sinister about that girl, the way she wormed her way into his life and ours."
Mitchum sat in the back seat of the town car and glared at his wife.
"I told you tonight that we have to be on our best behavior. My relationship with the Morgan's is strained since Logan's ex-fiancée sent those tapes to Rory Gilmore." Mitchum whispered to Shira.
"Why are you having problems with Liam? Does Liam know that the Gilmore Girl is a dirty little Gold digger? It was all her fault that Logan was in that car accident, so I told her to stay away from Logan and his friends."
"Shira, I know you encouraged Sloan in her little game. That game has cost us both financial and social connections. It is bad enough that Logan has removed us from his life. He no longer needs us financially, and if you ever want to have a relationship with your son, you better leave him and his friends alone. Do you realize that by tomorrow morning, everyone in Hartford will know that we were escorted out of the Gilmore Christmas party? We will be lucky if we are not shunned from other events here in Hartford or Europe. You know both the Gilmores and the Hayden's have connections in both worlds. We should leave Hartford as soon as possible."
"Wait, what does the Hayden's have to do with this? I thought the Gilmores and the Haydens didn't speak to each other?"
"You don't know?" Mitchum said to her.
Shira shifted in her seat and pulled out a cigarette from her small purse. "Know what?"
"Put the cigarette away, Shira. You can't smoke in this car. Rory is the granddaughter of Straub Hayden," Mitchum told her scowling as he pulled the ringing phone from his coat pocket.
Shira looked at her husband in surprise. Why didn't Mitchum tell her before? Her son, Logan, had proposed to Straub Hayden's granddaughter. Why did Elias tell her that Rory wasn't good enough for Logan? Did he not know the connection to the Hayden's? That was impossible, Elias Huntzberger knew everything. Shira leaned her head back on the leather car seat, closing her eyes. She had to fix this; Logan needs to marry Rory Gilmore since it is apparent that he is still deeply in love with her.
"Hello!" Mitchum answered sharply.
"Dad, where are you?" Honor asked.
Shira opened her eyes and looked at Mitchum and asked, "Is it Logan? Let me talk to him." Shira put her hand out to reach for the phone. Mitchum shook his head, moving away from her.
"We are heading home Honor," Mitchum replied loud enough so Shira could here.
"Dad, is everything okay?"
"Your mother isn't feeling well."
"She seemed fine to me. Did something happen?"
"Honor, she had too much to drink tonight. We are heading home, and I am sure she will feel much better after she spends some time at a spa. I will make the arrangements when I get home."
Mitchum looked over at his wife, who was scowling and shaking her head no.
"Dad, she doesn't need to go to the spa. Let me talk to her," Honor told him.
"Not now. Is Logan around?" Mitchum asked his daughter, changing the subject.
"No, I saw him leave the party with Jess and Ashlyn. Do you know why he would be leaving early too?"
"Let me talk to him, Honor," Mitchum demanded into the phone.
"Dad, I have to go. I will talk to Logan and tell him to call you."
"Fine. Tell Logan that it's important that I speak to him." The call ended, and Mitchum slipped his phone back into his coat pocket. He turned and looked at his wife who had her eyes closed. Good, he thought to himself. They can straighten this mess out tomorrow after they both have a good night's sleep. Mitchum helped Shira get out of the car when the driver opened the door at their home. He escorted her to their bedroom, where he pulled out one of her sleeping pills and handed it to her with a glass of water.
"Take this and get ready for bed. We will talk in the morning."
Shira nodded and took her pill, then went into the bathroom. Mitchum left Shira in her bedroom and returned to his office, where he poured himself a drink. Sitting down at his desk, he thought about what happened tonight. The party was going well. Logan had allowed them to accompany him to the party and was even polite on the ride over. Once they arrived, Mitchum noticed a change in Logan. Logan immediately walked over to Finn when he spotted him in the room. Mitchum watched Logan interact with Finn, Rory, and their friends. He noticed that Liam and Amanda were polite towards him, but both seem aloof and distant towards himself and Shira. He watched his son closely tonight, noticing where he sat during the meal, not with Finn and Rory but with other friends. He saw that Logan observed Rory and knew he still had feelings for her. Mitchum now realizes that he had made a mistake when he accosted Rory in the hospital. He let his emotions and concern for his son's mental state control him and now they had a bigger problem. Shira had pushed Rory causing her to fall and injure herself at the Gilmore home. He will need to call his lawyer immediately before he received a phone call from Liam's lawyer.
Finn carried Rory down the back staircase to the waiting ambulance, as Robert walked down the main staircase toward the dining room. As soon as Robert came into view, Olivia and Steph stopped their conversation. Robert pulled out the chair beside Olivia and sat down. He caught the waiter's attention and asked for another drink.
"Robert, you look upset. Did you find Finn and Rory?" Steph asked him.
When Robert nodded, Steph asked again, "What happened?"
"Rory fell, hitting her head against the wall. Finn called the ambulance, and they are taking her to the hospital now. Olivia, I think we should go there and support Finn," Robert said. Logan came over to their table when he saw Robert return. He seemed upset and knew it had to do with Finn and Rory since they no longer were sitting at the table.
"Robert, did you just say that Rory fell?" Logan asked. "I saw her leave the table and walk toward the hall. Do you know how it happened?"
"I'm not sure. Finn said that someone pushed her, causing her to lose her balance and when she fell, she hit her head on the wall."
Steph looked at everyone at the table. "Who would push her?" Steph looked across the table at Tris and Juliet. "Didn't she go to the bathroom alone? I know that Juliet went to look for her and Finn when she didn't return. Juliet, did you see Rory fall?"
"No, when I finally was able to walk away from Emily and her friends, I went to the hallway near the study, I didn't see anyone, and the bathroom was empty. Tris, did you see anything?"
"No, while you were gone, I took a video of you walking away," he smirked. "Then I went to the bar, and I got us some more drinks. I did notice Richard rushing towards the Huntzbergers, though. Logan, where are your parents?"
Logan looked around the room and didn't notice them. He saw his sister and her husband talking to a group of people, but his parents were nowhere around.
"I don't know. I don't see them anywhere," he responded,
Logan sat down beside Robert when Jess and Ashlyn came rushing over to the group. Ashlyn was visibly upset, and it appeared that she was crying.
"Did you hear? Finn called an ambulance and is taking Rory to the hospital. My mum and Lorelai are following them in the car now."
Logan stood up on his crutches, "Robert, I want to go to the hospital. When are you leaving?"
"Wait, you can't go charging into the ER, they won't tell you anything. Ashlyn and I are heading there now, and I can get answers," Jess stated.
"How did she fall?" Colin asked. He looked over at Robert, who had left the table quickly to get their coats.
"My dad said that someone knocked her down, causing her to lose her balance and falling backward. She hit her head on the wall by the bathroom door." Ashlyn told them, looking at Logan.
"Poor Rory, what can we do?" Juliet asked.
"I'm not sure," Jess said, " Why don't you stay here, and I will call you as soon as I have any news."
Logan grabbed Jess's arm, "Jess, I want to go with you." Jess could see the concern on Logan's face.
"Okay, Logan. Ash, why don't you and Logan get our coats. I will go talk to the Valet and get the car pulled up for us." Jess left the dining room, leaving Ashlyn standing beside Logan. Colin stood close to Logan.
"Logan, you know we are not going to sit here and wait. We will be at the hospital shortly. Don't worry about Rory, Finn loves her and won't let anything happen to her," Colin whispered to Logan. "Call us as soon as you know where she is."
Colin looked at Steph, "Olivia, why don't you explain to Lucy and Aidan what happened and where we are going. Meet me in the foyer, and I will get our coats. Tris, what about you and Juliet?"
Tristan looked at Juliet, and she gave him a small smile, "I think we will wait for a call from you. Too many people at the hospital can be confusing," Juliet responded.
Jess returned and helped Logan out to the waiting car. Ashlyn walked ahead of them and slid in the car first. The driver was holding the car door open for them when Honor came rushing over to her brother.
"Logan, where are you going?" she asked her brother.
"To the hospital. Finn took Rory there after she fell. Why?"
"Dad just called. He wants to talk to you."
"Not now, Honor." He handed Ashlyn his crutches and slid in the car beside her. Jess got in, and the car pulled away.
Looking towards Ashlyn and Jess in the dark car, Logan asked, "Ash, did your dad say who pushed her?"
"Yes, Logan. My father told me that Finn saw your mother push her, causing Rory to lose her balance. Finn was shocked because your mother didn't even help her up. Instead, she left her there and walked away."
Closing his eyes, Logan tried to control his anger. "I can't believe this. No wonder my father called Honor. They left the party, and he sent Honor over so he could make up some lie."
Logan took his phone out of his pocket and dialed Honor's number.
"Hello," Honor said.
"Honor, you didn't mention that mom and dad left. Did he tell you why they left the party early?"
"He told me that mom had too much to drink again and wasn't feeling well, so he decided to take her home."
"And you believe that crap? The truth is that Mom pushed Rory, and she hit her head. Finn had to call an ambulance and they left for the hospital. I am on my way there now. When you talk to Dad, tell him I have nothing to say to either of them."
"Oh no, Logan. I feel terrible. Josh and I are also leaving the party. Please call me as soon as you hear anything."
"I will."
Logan put his phone into his pocket, looking at Jess. He said quietly, "First, my father and now my mother. I screwed everything up."
Ashlyn looked up at Jess; she then raised her eyebrow and took Logan's hand. Jess shrugged his shoulders at Ashlyn to let her know he wasn't sure what Logan was talking about. "What do you mean?" she asked him. "How did you screw things up?"
"My parents…, they blame…"
"Logan, let's find out how Rory is and talk to Finn. Don't blame yourself for your parent's behavior," Jess told him. They sat quietly lost in their thoughts as the car sped through the winter night, heading towards the hospital.
Josh called an Uber since they had arrived in the town car with Mitchum, Shira, and Logan. He turned to his wife and asked, "What do you want to do?"
"I think we better go to my parent's home to find out what happened." Five minutes later, they were in the Uber heading towards her parent's home in West Hartford.
Emily stood in her crowded living room, looking for her husband. Her party was a success. Everyone was raving about the food that Sookie had made and the decorations. She hadn't seen Lorelai or Luke in a while and wondered where they might be. She wanted to tell Lorelai how happy she was that she used Sookie as her caterer. Emily left the living room and headed towards the busy dining room to check to see if Richard was at that bar when Biddie Charleston and Trudy Bishop came rushing towards her. Liam and Richard were standing in the kitchen, waiting for Luke and Christopher to return. "As Richard began to pace, he turned to Liam. "Liam, as soon as they return, I need to go and talk to Emily," Richard told him anxiously.
"Richard, sit down, you're too upset to talk to her now."
Liam looked around the kitchen and noticed the scotch that Richard had stored in the pantry for the party. He took a bottle out and poured some in a glass and handed it to him.
Richard took a sip and ran his hand across his face. "I need to go to the hospital. I need to make sure Rory is okay. I can't let anything happen to her." He continued to pace the room, trying not to bump into the waiters who were coming in to fill up their empty trays.
Liam guided Richard to the breakfast nook, where he got Richard to sit down. "Richard, Lorelai and Amanda took the car and followed the ambulance. They will call us as soon as they know anything. I think you should wait before you say something to Emily. You have a house full of guest and we don't want her to become upset."
Sookie came into the kitchen and walked over to them, putting her arm on Richard's shoulder.
"Mr. Gilmore, can I do anything for you?" Sookie asked him. Jackson stood behind them worried and watched as his wife placed a plate full of her cookies in front of him.
"Thanks, Sookie. Go out and make sure the guests are taken care of and don't mention anything to Emily. I will let you both know when I hear anything," Richard told her, taking another sip of his scotch.
Christopher and Luke walked through the back door and sat down at the table. Sookie and Jackson looked at them. Luke put his hand on Sookie's shoulder and whispered, "He will be okay. Can you give us a minute?"
"Sure, Jackson and I will be in the dining room."
"Just don't say anything to Emily," Luke told her.
"Okay." Sookie and Jackson walked out toward the buffet table where Sookie checked the food while Jackson walked over to the bar and got his wife a glass of sparkling water and an IPA for himself. Luke and Christopher walked over to where Liam and Richard were sitting quietly in the corner away from the confusion in the kitchen.
"Richard, we need to talk," Christopher said to him quietly.
Richard looked around the room and said, "Not here; let's go into my study."
As the men were leaving the kitchen, Liam watched as Sookie returned to the kitchen and addressed her staff. "Okay, people, let's get those desserts cut and served. We have to keep this party running smoothly."
Richard and Liam made their way through the party, avoiding Emily.
Christopher found his mother talking with the Shaffers and the Hollisters. He walked over to her and whispered, "Mom, I need you to keep Emily busy for a while."
"Why, dear?" Francine asked.
"I will explain everything in a little while. Trust me," Chris told his mother.
Francine looked into her son's face and noticed that he looked worried. Something was up so she nodded. Excusing herself, she walked over to where Emily was talking to a group of her friends from the DAR. Biddie looked up at Francine and said, "Emily was just telling us about her granddaughter's wedding to the young Finn Morgan."
As soon as Christopher and Luke entered the study, Richard shut the door and sat down at his desk. Liam poured everyone a glass of scotch. Taking a sip, Christopher looked at Richard.
"Liam, we need to do something. I have no idea why Mitchum Huntzberger and his wife have decided to signal out Rory. This fall could be dangerous, and I am worried that she might lose the baby. I'm going to call my lawyers at Hayden Holdings and see if we can put a restraining order against the Huntzbergers, "
Suddenly Richard looked up at Christopher. "Baby? Are Rory and Finn having a baby?" Richard asked, concerned. He looked at Luke and Liam. Luke's face turned red and he looked at Christopher.
"Shit, they're going to kill me," Christopher replied, rubbing his hands over his face.
Immediately Liam stood up. "Richard, Rory and Finn are expecting and are due in July. The kids are going to tell you when they return from their honeymoon. The only reason we know is she has been sick every morning. Please don't say a word to Emily," Liam replied, looking at Richard.
Richard sat back, stunned, "A baby… well, it's not like she is sixteen. She is a grown woman with a job, and she is getting married in less than two weeks," he mumbled. Suddenly he smiled. "Luke, Christopher, this is great news. I am going to be a great grandfather." Smiling, Richard puffs out his chest and immediately walks to the locked liquor cabinet.
"Gentlemen, this news is cause for a celebration. I have some Cognac that I have been saving for such an occasion. I was going to break it open on their wedding day, but this is a better reason." Richard gets out four brandy sniffers and pours ¾ oz. in each glass. Then he opens his humidor and passes out his Cuban cigars.
"Gentlemen here's to the next generation of Morgans, Gilmores, and Haydens."
They each take a sip, and then Liam lights the cigars. They sat around the study, puffing on the cigars and sipping the cognac when Liam hears his cell phone ring.
He quickly answers it, "Ash, is everything okay?"
"Yes, we just arrived at the hospital. Finn is with Rory now, and we are with mom and Lorelai."
"Okay, I'm here with Luke, Christopher, and Richard. Keep us posted," Liam tells her.
"I will dad." Liam ends his call and looks at them. "Ashlyn is with them now. She said Finn is with Rory, and they are waiting with Lorelai and Amanda. Richard, please don't mention the baby to Emily, or anyone. I don't want to spoil the kid's surprise. They want to tell you, Emily and Francine."
"I promise, mums the word. Lorelai is there so I won't need to go. I will stay here with our guests, keeping Emily distracted. The three of you should leave and go to the hospital."
Christopher hesitated, "Go ahead Luke, Liam, I will wait here."
"No, Christopher, you need to be there too for Rory. I will make sure your mother gets home, promise to call me as soon as you know that Rory and the baby are going to be okay."
"I promise, Richard." Christopher followed Luke and Liam towards Luke's truck.
When the ambulance arrived at the hospital, they immediately wheeled Rory into the ER. A team of nurses took her into a treatment room where they applied a dressing to her wound on her shoulder and helped her into a hospital gown. Leaving the fetal monitor on her, they folded her coat and dress and put them in a bag for her. A nurse brought the bag with her clothes in it and handed it to Finn. Anna, the nurse, told Finn he could return to the room. Finn gave the bag of Rory's clothes to his mother and followed Anna back into the little room. Finn was talking calmly to Rory when the ER doctor came in.
Mr. Morgan, can you tell me what happened to your fiancée?" he asked her.
"Ror, can you tell the doctor what happened," Finn asked her.
"Yes, I lost my balance and hit my head against the wall. Suddenly I began to have these pains." Rory began to cry, "Is our baby okay?"
"Right now, your baby is okay. The fetal monitor doesn't show that it is distress but your blood pressure is exceptionally low." The doctor turned to Anna and said, "Please page her obstetrician and get her ready for an IV."
When the doctor left, Finn pulled a chair beside her bed. Leaning over the bed, he began stroking her hair kissing her gently on the temple, watching and listening to the beep on the fetal monitor. The door whooshed open, and Finn looked up in surprise, when the chief resident in Obstetrics, rushed into their room.
"Paris?" Rory said, surprised.
"I was on duty tonight in the ER when I heard your name, and I came rushing in. They said they needed an obstetrician in here. Are you pregnant? Tell me you didn't get back with that spoiled trust fund baby."
Paris looked at the man who was stroking Rory's hair. "Who are you? Wait, don't I know you. Isn't he one of Huntzbergers pals?"
"I'm her fiancé, Finn Morgan and I remember you from Yale," Finn said, smirking at Paris.
"She hasn't changed has she, Love," Finn said to Rory. "Still sassy as ever."
Paris walked over to Rory and took her hand. She looked down at her left hand and saw the beautiful engagement ring on her finger.
"Are you out of your mind, Rory? You got rid of one limo boy for another?"
"Paris, Finn isn't anything like Logan."
"He's rich, and isn't he Logan's friend?"
"Yes, but Finn and I are in love."
Paris looked at Rory and then at Finn, "So when is the wedding?"
Rory looked at Paris and said, "In two weeks.
"I guess congratulations are in order. When were you going to tell me?"
"Paris…,"
The door opened and Dr. DeGroff came into the room. "Dr. Geller, I am glad you are here, this is Rory Gilmore, she is approximately ten weeks pregnant. I have been following her case closely. She has had a previous miscarriage and with this pregnancy, she has had severe morning sickness. "
Paris looked at Rory in surprise as Rory turned her head towards Finn and looked away.
Smiling at Finn, Dr. DeGroff shook Finn's hand and said, "Finn, what happened?"
"Rory hasn't been feeling well all day, and tonight at the party she pushed the food around her plate. She left to go to the bathroom and when I went looking for her, I found her on the floor."
"Rory, are you drinking liquids?" When Rory didn't say anything, Finn became concerned.
"I gave you a glass of sparkling water tonight at the party, did you finish it, Love?"
"No, I didn't, I just drank the glass of water you gave me at dinner. I didn't feel well, so I went to use the bathroom when I lost my balance and fell backward, hitting my head on the wall."
"Were you dizzy before you fell?" Paris asked.
"A little," Rory admitted. "The dizziness comes and goes."
Paris checked Rory's skin, then pressed her nail down to see how long it took for the color to return in her nail bed. She looked at the doctor and then asked Rory to open her mouth. She peered inside, then looked over at the doctor.
"Doctor, it seems that she is dehydrated. Rory, have you been vomiting today?" Paris asked her.
"A little, but not as bad as before." Rory looked over at Finn, who frowned.
"Ror, why didn't you tell me that you got sick this morning?"
"I didn't want you to worry," she whispered.
"Rory, have you been tired, and have you been having some headaches?" Dr. DeGroff asked her.
Rory nodded and looked sheepishly at Finn. Finn stroked her forehead, "Love, I can't take care of you if you don't tell me what's wrong,"
"Anna, we need an IV , Rory, you have has Hyperemesis Gravidarum. A condition some women have during pregnancy. If you follow my directions, you will be fine, but you must keep the fluids down. "
"Rory, have you been drinking coffee?" the doctor asked her.
Smiling weakly, she nodded. "They seem to stop the headaches."
Finn looked at her and frowned. "Love, I thought we agreed."
"Rory, you need to stop drinking coffee," Dr. DeGroff told her.
"But it's been only one cup a day, and I have been drinking tea and hot chocolate," she admitted.
"The tea is okay, but you need to make sure it is decaffeinated," Dr. DeGroff told her. "I also want you to stay away from any food or drink that has caffeine in it."
Finn stood next to her and raised his eyebrows. Paris gave him a grin and mouthed, "Good Luck with that." Which made Finn smirk.
"Rory, lay on your back so I can do an ultrasound. But first, I need you to relax."
Paris squeezed Rory's left hand and said, "Ror, Finn and I are here. I want you to listen to your baby's heartbeat. That's a girl. Take slow breaths."
Finn stood at the head of the bed and continued to gently stroke Rory's head. The doctor opens Rory's hospital gown and put the gel on her belly. Moving the 4D ultrasound wand over her abdomen, the doctor could see the image of the baby. The skin of the baby was translucent, and they could see all the baby's organs. The doctor turned up the volume, and immediately they heard the baby's heartbeat. "It sounds like galloping horse hoofs," Finn said in awe.
The doctor smiled. "That is a good sign. The baby is fine and not in distress." She removed the wand from Rory's body and gently wiped the gel from her abdomen.
"Finn, Rory, I am going to order some blood tests. One is the normal genetic testing, and the other is to check the levels of your dehydration. I want you to spend the night so we can monitor you. I am sending a script to the pharmacy for you to have 10mg of Vitamin B6 three times a day and 1.5 mg a day of Thiamine which will help with nausea. The good news is that the cramps were caused by dehydration, and you are not having a miscarriage, but you will need to make some lifestyle changes — no more caffeine with this pregnancy. Would you like some pictures of your baby?"
"Yes, thank you," Rory answered.
"Finn, I am assuming you will spend the night?"
"Yes, I won't leave her side," Finn responded quickly.
"Good, I am going to order something for her to relax and they will be taking you up to a room shortly. Have a wonderful honeymoon, and before you leave the hospital, I want you to schedule an appointment for the week you return from your honeymoon."
Turning to Paris, she said, "Dr. Gellar, will finish up with Miss Gilmore, and could you follow up with her tomorrow?
"Yes, Dr. DeGroff," Paris answered.
"Good. Finn, will you come with me?" Dr. DeGroff asked him.
"Of course. Babe, I will be right back." He kissed Rory and followed the doctor out of the room.
Paris looked at Rory and shook her head. "You so have a type," she told her.
"Finn is nothing like Logan. I should have dated him when we were at Yale," Rory confessed to her.
"Right, wasn't he the one that always chased the redheads when we were at Yale, and perpetually drunk?"
"Yes, but that was a long time ago. Finn isn't like that anymore."
"No, he is one of the most eligible bachelors in the US. Look, I'm not going to argue with you."
"Good," Rory said and folded her arms across her chest.
Paris continued to work on the monitor and helped the nurse with the IV. She looked at Rory and whispered, "I'm sorry."
Rory looked at her best friend and gave her a small grin.
"For what?"
"For being a terrible friend. I should have been here for you."
"But I haven't stayed in touch with you, Paris, and I know that you have been busy too. How's Doyle?"
"He's good, but things are going to change between you and me." Paris squeezed her friends' hands.
The Doctor walked with Finn out of the room and stood in the hallway.
"Finn, has Rory been in a lot of stress lately?"
"I think so, but she won't admit it. She still sick in the morning, and today, I noticed that the peppermint tea made her nauseous."
"I am going to write up a list of food for her to try. Make sure she gets plenty of fluids and calcium-enriched food. Have her eat smaller frequent meals and if hot foods make her nauseous, then have her eat cold foods. I want her to take the vitamins I mentioned along with her prenatal vitamins. I want you to have her drink the electrolyte-replacement sports drinks and keep some ginger drops available for her to suck on. The most important part is the rest and to keep her stressed level down. I know that might be hard with the wedding approaching."
"I think the wedding plans are completed, but Rory is a person who likes to be in control, much like her grandmother," Finn said.
"Do you know how she fell?" the doctor asked him.
"Unfortunately, she was pushed. I couldn't get over to her fast enough."
"Oh dear, I noticed she has some bruising on her arm and a cut on her shoulder."
"Yes, it was a forceful push."
"Was she discussing something with this person?"
"I'm not sure, I went looking for her when she didn't return from the bathroom. I walked into the room and saw the other person push her and Rory immediately fell backward."
"See if you can get her to rest and try to find someone who can help with the wedding plans. Make sure you call my office tomorrow to make that appointment."
Finn shook the doctor's hand and watched as she walked down the hall. As Jess, Ashlyn and Logan stepped off the elevator; they noticed Finn talking to the Doctor. Finn stood there for a moment rubbing the back of his neck when Jess, Ashlyn and Logan began to walk towards him. Amanda and Lorelai got off the elevator near Finn with coffee in their hand and immediately rushed over to Finn.
"Finn, Finn is my little girl, okay? Is the baby okay?" Lorelai asked with tears in her eyes.
Finn bit his lip, trying to hold back his emotions. With teary eyes, he looked at Lorelai, "Yes, she is fine. Paris is inside with her now. They are giving her an IV. She has something called hyper something, and she must rest and change her diet. I'm going to need your help with the wedding plans because she can't be under a lot of stress."
"Hyperemesis Gravadrum," Jess said as he approached them. Jess placed his hand on Finn's shoulder. "It is a severe case of morning sickness that five percent of pregnant women get. It is easy to treat. Acupuncture is a safe way to treat this." Jess said as he walked up to Finn. "I have had a few patients with it and had success."
Lorelai turned and hugged Jess. "I'm so glad you're here, Jess."
Logan froze when he heard Lorelai ask about the baby. What baby, he wondered. Is Rory carrying Finn's child? Was this the reason for the wedding to be now? He looked over at Jess and Ashlyn and wondered if they had known about the baby. Jess didn't seem surprise since he is offering treatment. Logan had a million questions going on in his head. He wanted to see her, talk to her, to make sure she was alright, but instead, he stood there quietly and listened.
Jess pulled Lorelai into his arms, hugging her. "Don't worry, Lorelai. We will take care of her." He looked up at Finn who looked exhausted.
"I've got this, Finn. You go back to Rory. I will go and talk to Rory's obstetrician and offer my services. Who is it?"
"Dr. DeGroff," Finn told Jess.
"Good, she is one of the best. I have collaborated with her before. Lorelai, I want you to go sit down, and I will talk to Rory's doctor about setting up acupuncture appointments for her."
Ashlyn walked beside Jess as he led Lorelai over to one of the chairs. Amanda walked up to Logan. "Logan, you need to sit down," she told him. Amanda led him to a chair and maneuvered another chair in front of him so he could rest his leg. Finn stood there for another moment and watched his mother help Logan. He then turned and walked back to Rory's room.
Amanda sat beside Logan and handed the coffee to him that she brought for Finn. He thanked her and watched as Jess left to go and speak to the doctor. The elevator door opened, and Liam, Luke, and Christopher got off the elevator, rushing over to where they were sitting. Liam walked over to Amanda. "Where is she? Is she okay?"
"Yes, Finn is with her now. She has a severe case of morning sickness, and Jess is familiar with this condition. So Jess went to talk to the doctor about setting up acupuncture treatments for her ."
"I knew she had been sick, but I thought she was feeling better?" Liam said.
"I thought so too, but I think she hasn't said anything to anyone, but Finn."
Logan sat there alone and listened to the conversation, thinking about Rory lying in bed.
Christopher and Luke sat beside Lorelai. Ashlyn stood up and went to sit beside Logan.
"Are you okay?" she asked him.
"Did you know about the baby?" he asked her.
"No, she never said anything to me; why?"
"I just wondered if that is why they decided to get married."
"Logan, Finn proposed to her in October. The baby is a bonus."
"She never wanted to have children when we were together," he mumbled.
"Logan people change their minds." Christopher noticed that Ashlyn was sitting beside Logan. He got up off the chair and walked over to him.
"Logan, I'm surprised to see you here."
"I am good friends with both Finn and Rory. Why shouldn't I be here."
Christopher bit his lip and turned his head away. "Look, I know you had nothing to do with this, but this is the second time your parents have hurt my daughter. My lawyer will be contacting them tomorrow."
"Christopher, I understand. I am angry with their recent behavior towards Finn and Rory. Recently I served them with papers. I found out that they have been manipulating me too and took Rory and Finn's name off the approved visitor's list when I was recovering after my accident. I have no intention of hurting your daughter. "
"Christopher, this is not Logan's fault," Finn said as he walked over to Logan and Ashlyn.
Logan looked up at Finn. "Is she okay?"
"Yes, they are getting her ready to transport her to a private room. I know everyone is worried about her. Rory admitted that she wasn't feeling well all day; she was dizzy when she fell and hit her head on the wall."
"So did Logan's mother push her?" Christopher asked.
Finn pressed his lips together and looked at his friend. "Logan, I went to check on Rory when she didn't return to the table. I was walking in the hallway with Alec when I noticed your mother had her hands on her, and then Rory fell backward. I ran across the room, but your mother just walked away. She never looked back to see if she was hurt. I'm sorry Logan."
"Finn, I'm sorry." Logan's eyes filled with tears, " I want us... can I see her later?" Logan asked Finn searching his eyes for forgiveness.
Finn reached over and squeezed Logan's shoulder. "Of course. As soon as she is settled in her room."
"Finn, thank you.," Logan said with tears in his eyes. Ashlyn squeezed Logan's hand and whispered, "Logan, she is going to be okay." Logan nodded and looked up when Jess returned.
"Finn, I spoke to Dr. DeGroff. She agrees that acupuncture can help Rory with the morning sickness. If it is alright with both of you, I will set an appointment for her tomorrow morning before she leaves the hospital. I know you have only a week before you go on your honeymoon, but we could do a few treatments. Hey, did you find out what Emily said to her tonight that made her upset?"
Finn looked at him and shook his head. "No, but I will talk to Emily about it." Finn glanced down the hall and saw the orderly walk into Rory's room. "Listen, I am going back to her now. I will send you a text when she goes to her room."
Paris was finishing up and had given her a Tylenol for the headache when the orderly walked into the room. "Here for transport," he told Paris.
"The monitor needs to go with her," Paris told the orderly. They began to move the IV to another stand and placed the monitor on the bed. Finn walked in as they were getting ready to move Rory.
"I am going with you," Paris said, following them to the elevator.
They pushed Rory down the opposite hall and into the waiting elevator. Finn held Rory's hand.
"Babe, Jess is here. He talked to Dr. DeGroff, and he is going to give you acupuncture treatments starting tomorrow. He says that the treatments will ease your nausea."
Rory's eyes got big. "Will I need to take my clothes off?" she asked Paris and Finn.
"I never thought of that, Paris, do you know?"
Paris started to laugh, "No, it's not like a massage. Talk to him about it, and if you feel uncomfortable, let him know."
They got to the private room where Paris and two nurses helped settle Rory in the bed. Finn waited out in the hall and looked at his phone. There was a message from Robert wondering where he was. Finn instantly sent him a message with the room number and turned when the nurse came out of the room to get him.
He returned, and he sat beside Rory on the bed, putting his arm around her shoulder, watching the monitor. Paris smiled at the two of them.
"Ror, I think I like this guy." Paris smiled at Finn.
"Yes, my mother calls him the exotic one." Finn smiled and kissed Rory on the top of the head.
"You two have nothing to worry about. It appears that this little one is strong. Congratulations, Finn. Rory explained to me how you met. She is special, and I will be all over you if you dare hurt her. Here is my number and I want you to call me anytime."
Turning to Rory, she squeezed her hand, "Rory, you and I are going to talk soon. I am making sure that I am not too busy for you. I will be available for both of you 24/7." Smiling at Finn, Paris said, "At least, this time, you picked the decent Trust fund baby to marry." Rory squeezed her best friend's hand and gave her a big smile.
"He is unique," Rory told Paris, looking up at Finn. Finn leaned down and gently kissed her on the lips.
Paris smiled at them. As soon as Paris left the room, Finn crawled up on the bed, being careful of her IV tubes and the fetal monitor wires.
" Love, your mum is here, and so is Logan, Ashlyn, Jess, and your dads. They all want to see you and make sure that you are okay. I told them they could see you once they moved you into this room."
"Oh, okay," she said as she closed her eyes.
