WrestleMania 25: 5/4/2009
The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania was live at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Money in the Bank ladder match was the start of the event as the participants: CM Punk, Kane, Mark Henry, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston, Christian, and Finlay, fought for the briefcase that was suspended.
The match was littered with many notable moments, including a series of the match's combatants performing dives onto the floor of the arena onto each other, as well as Benjamin diving off of the top of a ladder with a senton bomb onto his opponents. The ladder was also used as a weapon by the competitors, which saw it being thrown at each other or, in the case of Kingston, to be used as extra force dropped on their chest as Kofi incapacitated them by draping the collapsed ladder over their bodies and leg dropping onto the ladder. The finish came with Punk and Kane on top of the ladder, which saw Punk execute a series of kicks on Kane from atop the ladder, knocking him off. Punk went on to win the match after he grabbed the hanging briefcase.
After the match, Kid Rock performed a live medley of songs: "Bawitdaba", "Rock N Roll Jesus", "Cowboy", "All Summer Long", and "So Hott".[51] During the last song, the female competitors of the WWE would come to the ring to compete in a 25-Diva battle royal, to crown "Miss WrestleMania". The match featured Divas that were employed by WWE at the time and Divas that had worked for WWE in the past. Santino Marella, who portrayed a diva called "Santina", his twin sister, won the match and was crowned "Miss WrestleMania". Mae Young acted as the special guest timekeeper of the match while Candice Michelle was the one who gave the sash and crown to Santina.
The next match featured Chris Jericho facing Ricky Steamboat, Jimmy Snuka, and Roddy Piper (who were accompanied to the ring by Ric Flair) in a three-on-one handicap elimination match.
Before long, Jericho had caused Snuka to submit the Walls of Jericho. He then pinned Piper after an enzuigiri. Steamboat, however, would outlast his partners as he was able to execute a number of his signature moves including arm drags, chops, and a plancha. Jericho was able to regain control of the match by connecting with the Codebreaker, pinning Steamboat to win the match. After the match, Jericho challenged Mickey Rourke, sitting at ringside, to come into the ring. Rourke finally entered the ring and knocked Jericho onto the canvas with a punch before being commended by Ric Flair.
The fourth bout was the Extreme Rules match between brothers Jeff and Matt Hardy. This featured a multitude of moments that saw the Hardys assault each other with many different weapon-based attacks, which included assaults with numerous objects under the ring and Jeff splash from the top turnbuckle through a pair of tables, with Matt sandwiched between the two and a chair.
Jeff, seeking to end the match, attempted to set up a ladder for him to ascend while he would perform a maneuver similar to a leapfrog over the hurdle, and diving down in a seated position known as a leapfrog leg drop, ultimately missing his target, due to Matt's last-minute dodge, which resulted in Matt gaining the advantage over his brother. He then forced Jeff's head in between the seat and back of a steel chair, then executed the Twist of Fate with Jeff's head in the chair to win the match via pinfall.
The next match was for the WWE Divas Championship, the Champion Maria defending against Michelle McCool. This was a brutal, physical match with no DQs or count outs. Maria retained her title when she hit McCool with three spears in a row then a Tombstone Piledriver.
A singles match for the Intercontinental Championship was next, in which Rey Mysterio faced defending champion John "Bradshaw" Layfield. Before the match started, JBL kicked Mysterio and punched him down to the ground for a few seconds. But once the referee started the match, Mysterio surprised JBL by quickly executing the 619 before pinning him for a win via pinfall in twenty seconds.
Following the match, a frustrated JBL grabbed a microphone and proclaimed, "I quit!". This has been JBL's last singles match as an active performer. The match marked the first time since WrestleMania X8 that the Intercontinental Championship has been defended at a WrestleMania event.
The next match pitted The Undertaker against Shawn Michaels. Michaels made his entrance descending on a platform to symbolize the light; in sharp contrast, The Undertaker entered second, ascending from the floor with fire shooting up from the stage. The match began with a fast pace by both men going for strikes to have them countered before Michaels feigned a knee injury to gain the advantage, and the pace slowed. This led to an exchange of signature moves and submission holds, which saw Michaels escape The Undertaker's Hell's Gate and dodge multiple attempts at the chokeslam while Undertaker blocked attempts at Michaels' Sweet Chin Music. The action went to the outside of the ring with Michaels attempting a moonsault, only to have The Undertaker avoid the attempt. This led to The Undertaker attempting a suicide dive over the top rope, only to have Michaels pull the nearby cameraman (played by Sim Snuka) into Undertaker.
The spot, however, did not go as intended. The idea was for Michaels to push the referee out of the way, and pull Snuka into the path of Undertaker and for Snuka to catch Undertaker before he hit the ground. However, Snuka was standing too far back and Undertaker landed almost head first on the protective mats surrounding the ring. He remained on the floor of the arena for some time, while Michaels revived the referee, rolling him back into the ring and having the referee start to count out the Undertaker.
The referee began to count as the Undertaker started to revive, and when the official got to the count of 9, Undertaker rolled into the ring, managing to beat the count of 10. The match continued with both men performing all of their respective finishing moves. The Undertaker executed the Last Ride and chokeslam, Michaels executed Sweet Chin Music twice and Undertaker executed a Tombstone Piledriver on Michaels - all of which scored near-falls. Undertaker won the match after Michaels attempted another moonsault only to be caught in mid-air, and landed into another Tombstone Piledriver. As a result of this victory, The Undertaker remained undefeated at WrestleMania, extending his record to 17–0. Throughout the match, fans were split, chanting for both superstars, and at one point chanted "This is awesome", referring to the match itself.
The next match was the Hell in a Cell match between Bladewolf and Jackal.
Down with the Sickness hits and out comes the Jackal to boos from the fans as he walks down the long ramp towards the ring which was surrounded by the Hell in a Cell. "The following contest is a HELL IN A CELL MATCH! Introducing first, from Brooklyn, New York, weighing 290lbs...THE JACKAL!"
Jackal enters the cell then rolls into the ring. He hops slightly on his feet as he takes off his jacket and shirt.
OOOOOOWHOOOOOO!
The Vengeful One hits and pyro explodes on the stage before Bladewolf walks out to a pop from the fans. He stands on the ramp as pyro goes off on the stage around him. He then makes his way down the long ramp towards the ring. "And his opponent, from Death Valley, weighing 275lbs...THE BLADEWOLF!"
Bladewolf enters the cell and slams the door shut behind him. He takes off his trench coat and tosses it aside before rolling into the ring, staring Jackal down who stared back. Tonight, it all ends.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Bladewolf and Jackal immediately stepped forward and locked up with a test of strength before breaking it when neither could overpower the other. Bladewolf landed a right to Jackal's gut before driving his knee into his gut then applied a headlock takedown, landing a few rights to Jackal's skull before breaking the hold and drops an elbow onto Jackal's back. Bladewolf gets to his feet, grabs Jackal and Irish whips him off the ropes but they both meet with shoulder blocks that doesn't take them down. Jackal runs and rebounds off the ropes but Bladewolf got behind Jackal and hits a German Suplex, sending Jackal across the ring.
Bladewolf gets to his feet and walks towards the challenger and stomps on his back before dragging him into the corner where he relentlessly stomps away before backing off. Bladewolf runs and crashes his knee into Jackal's body, pulls him away from the corner and goes for the cover. ONE! TWO! THR-! Jackal kicked out at two.
Bladewolf grabs Jackal in a waist lock before hitting a second German Suplex. He holds on as he then hits another German Suplex, then another, then another, and then another, hitting six in a row. Bladewolf lays on Jackal and drives his knees into Jackal's knees before hooking the leg but Jackal kicks out at two again. Bladewolf rolls out of the ring and looks underneath it, pulling out a steel chair and slides back into the ring, looking to hit Jackal...BUT JACKAL HITS A SPINEBUSTER OUT OF NOWHERE!
Jackal hooks the leg but Bladewolf kicks out at two. Jackal gets to his feet and stomps away on Bladewolf, dropping his knee to Bladewolf's gut. Jackal then picks up the steel chair and begins using it on Bladewolf, smacking the chair off his arms, legs, chest, back, anywhere he can hit to injure his opponent. Jackal then tosses the chair aside before picking Bladewolf up and gets him onto his shoulders but Bladewolf rights back with elbows to Jackal's head and then gets off before hitting a DDT out of nowhere.
Bladewolf slowly gets to his feet, using the ropes to help him. He runs and hits an elbow drop on Jackal's chest before hammering away at Jackal's skull violently until Jackal is busted open! Bladewolf smirks at the blood before continuing the assault and the referee pulls him away to check on Jackal who says he wants to go ahead.
Bladewolf paces as Jackal slowly gets to his feet and runs at him, only to be taking down in a MMA style to gain the upper hand, punching anywhere on Jackal's body. Bladewolf knees Jackal in the side of the ribs before headbutting him multiple times, getting blood across his forehead. Bladewolf wipes it off before standing up, pulls Jackal to his feet and onto his shoulders... WHERE HE HITS FURY OF THE WOLF! HE HOOKS THE LEG! ONE! TWO! THRE-! JACKAL KICKS OUT BEFORE THREE!
Bladewolf looked surprised but begins smirking before getting to his feet and grabs Jackal, tossing him out of the ring and follows him. Bladewolf grabs Jackal and then tosses him into the steel steps, causing Jackal to hold his shoulder. Bladewolf picks Jackal up and looks at the steel ring post, looking to bash Jackal's head off it...BUT JACKAL PUSHES BLADEWOLF HEAD FIRST INTO THE STEEL POST!
Jackal crawls away a bit as Bladewolf goes to a knee and the camera sees that Bladewolf has been busted open from the hit to the head. Bladewolf shakes his head and stands up before taking off his sleeveless shirt and uses it to wipe the blood away. Jackal uses this chance to lull a sledgehammer out from underneath the ring...AND DRIVES IT INTO BLADEWOLF'S GUT!
Jackal tosses the hammer aside and grabs Bladewolf before bouncing his head off the steel cell then tosses him into it. Jackal then lifts Bladewolf up and tosses him into the cell wall before taking a few steps back. He sprints...AND SPEARS BLADEWOLF THROUGH THE CELL WALL!
The crowd were cheering like crazy! 'Holy Shit! Holy Shir! Holy Shit!
Jackal was the the first to his feet and grabbed Bladewolf before lifting him up...AND SLAMS HIM THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE TABLE! Jackal leans against the cell wall before he grabs Bladewolf and began dragging him into the cell, tossing him back into the ring. Bladewolf uses the ropes to pull himself to his feet and turns around only to be scooped onto Jackal's shoulder and positioned upside down with Jackal holding him...BEFORE HITTING A TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER! HE HOOKS THE LEG! ONE! TWO! THRE-! BLADEWOLF KICKS OUT!
Jackal slaps the mat in frustration. "STAY DOWN!" Jackal yells. Jackal rolls out the ring and picks up the sledgehammer he used before sliding back in.
The fans boo as Jackal lines the sledgehammer with his skull before raising it...BUT BLADEWOLF HITS A DESPERATE LOW BLOW OUT OF NOWHERE! Jackal groans and falls to the ground, dropping the sledgehammer. Both men were down now.
Bladewolf is the first up to his feet and he grabs the sledgehammer, waiting for Jackal to face him...BEFORE BASHING IT OFF HIS SKULL! Bladewolf drops the sledgehammer and leans against the corner.
Bladewolf walks towards Jackal, looking to do more damage... BUT JACKAL HITS A LOW BLOW! Bladewolf falls to his knees as Jackal gets to his feet before getting Bladewolf in a headlock...AND HITS A DDT! Jackal gets to his feet before walking out of the cell and over to the announce tables, taking apart the RAW announce table before walking back over to Bladewolf and drags him over to the table and goes to toss him onto it but Bladewolf slides out of his grip.
Jackal turns...INTO A SUPERKICK! Jackal falls onto the RAW announce table as Bladewolf leans against the cell before he begins climbing it to a pop from the fans. Bladewolf reaches the top and looks around before looking then...THEN JUMPS OFF WITH A SHOOTING STAR PRESS OFF THE TOP OF THE CELL! BLADEWOLF CRASHES ONTO JACKAL!
'HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT!' The fans chanted. 'THIS IS WRESTLING! THIS IS AWESOME! THIS IS WRESTLING! THIS IS AWESOME! THIS IS WRESTLING! THIS IS AWESOME!'
Jackal and Bladewolf slowly move in pain before both painfully get to their feet, Jackal stumbles back into the ring and Bladewolf follows, leaning against the cell wall for a moment before rolling back in.
Both men laid on their back before getting to their feet. Bladewolf scoops Jackal onto his shoulder... AND HITS THE TOMBSTONE PIEODRIVER! HE HOOKS THE LEG! ONE! TWO! THREE! THE BLADEWOLF REMAINS UNDEFEATED AT WRESTLEMANIA!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
"You okay?" George asked Jack over the roaring cheers and the theme music. Jack groaned in response. George nodded against his shoulder. "I love you man!"
"Here is your winner... THE BLADEWOLF!" Bladewolf painfully sits up and stumbles to his feet. He raises his arms as the cell is lifted and he falls onto his knees again as Jackal rolls out the ring and begins the walk up the ramp, looking very injured though. Bladewolf falls onto his back when a familiar girl tackled him.
Bladewolf hugged Maria tightly as he hets to his feet. Pyro goes off as the graphics show 12-0. His twelfth victory at WrestleMania. Bladewolf smiles and raises his arms again before lowering them as a thought comes to mind and he rolls out of the ring, grabbing something from Jim Ross then a microphone.
"Cut the music." He said as he rolls back in and the music cuts off as everyone wants to know what he wanted to say. "I..love this business." The fans cheer. "I may have risked my life and career many times, but that's what we do for all of you." He points at the WWE Universe and they cheer. "Don't worry this isn't a retirement speech or anything, not for a good long while. What I have to say...is something for my girlfriend, Maria."
He faces Maria and takes a few breaths in and out. "Right now, Maria...can I ask you something?"
Maria nodded
"I've been in this company for over 10 years now, about 12 years now actually, I've been through a lot. I've won Championships, I've beaten the great legends, I've seen the best the new stars have brought and they've impressed and earn my respect, I've done so many things in my professional career. Still undefeated at WrestleMania, 8-time World Champion, Royal Rumble winner, Mr. Money in the Bank, I didn't think I'd reach all of that. But the one shining moment of my life, professionally and personally... was when I met you."
Tears started coming down Maria's face as he continued.
"When you asked those five words to me back in 2006, my life changed because I fell in love with the most beautiful woman ever." Maria blushed. "And right now this isn't the Bladewolf speaking anymore... This is George Edwards going off character and making a big WrestleMania moment."
The fans and Maria gasped when George got to a knee and revealed the object he took from JR was a box and he opened it to reveal an engagement ring.
George took a breath. "Maria...will you marry me?"
Maria shakily took the microphone from him. "You...have made me worry for you every time you pull big stunts like this match, I worry when you jump off high things to perform a big move, but God dammit it makes me love you so much more. All I can say is...what took you so long?!" She smiled tearfully. "YES! YES! I'LL MARRY YOU!"
The fans exploded into cheers as Maria hugs George who had a large smile on his face. He slides the ring on her finger and hugs her tightly, pressing his face into her neck. Every WWE Fan was standing and clapping for the newly engaged couple.
Backstage
Everyone backstage was clapping and cheering. "WOO! THAT'S WJAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" Ric Flair cheered as Paul and Michael laughed and clapped. All the WWE Superstars, Legends, and Hall of Famers were cheering.
In the ring
George and Maria eventually broke their hug and left the ring. George didn't care he went out of character for so long. He wanted to do this. George and Maria reached the top of the stage and raised their arms together before heading backstage.
Backstage, off screen.
As soon as George and Maria were backstage, they were met with cheers and claps from everyone backstage. Maria smiled as George grinned and slapped a few hands along the way.
Paul walked up to them with Stephanie and hugged them. "Congratulations." Stephanie said with a beaming smile before looking at George. "Since you came to our wedding, we'll be there for yours."
"We just need to set a date." George said and Paul chuckled. "No sledgehammers."
Paul fake pouted. "Why do you gotta take all the fun out?"
"Probably because of how you get." Michael said, walking over and hugged the engaged couple. "Well done, it's like..magic!"
"This isn't a story, Michael." George said with a roll of his eyes.
"It could be." Michael said cryptically before acting like a ghost, making them laugh. "I'll be there at the wedding. I'm definitely being the best man."
"We'll fill you in on the details eventually." George said with a roll of his eyes.
After more congratulations from everybody, George and Maria visited Jack who had broken his collarbone at a point in the match. He would be out for several months, maybe even a whole year. George wished him well before leaving the arena to go to the hotel with Maria.
George and Maria's hotel room
As soon as the door was shut and locked, Maria pounced on George. They made out while getting into the bedroom. Maria shoved her future husband onto it before straddling him and engaged a kiss with him again. They began taking each other's clothing off and spent the night in Passion.
You all know what happened at the end there...
