Getting married was kind of anticlimactic. Without the whole church thing, it was basically signing some papers. They had both sets of parents with them but that wasn't necessary either.

When they left the building, they were officially wed but Derek didn't feel any different.

He held the door open for Stiles.

"Thank you, husband."

Maybe something was different. With a butterfly feeling in his stomach, he followed Stiles to the car.

"He's going to say that often now, isn't he?" Derek heard Melissa behind him.

"Exclusively," John agreed. "He's going to forget your name, Derek."

Derek could live with that.

The group reached the car where John and Melissa used the chance to congratulate them properly. Derek had the feeling that these were just the first in a long series of hugs but when John patted him on the back and called him son, Derek couldn't help the stupid grin on his face.

However, the damper came instantly when he looked over to his own parents. Talia had been sitting through the whole thing with a stern expression but at least she hadn't tried to interfere with this at the last minute.

Derek's parents were the first to leave with the excuse that they had to pick up Peter. Derek watched them leave with mixed feelings but he was determined to not let his mother ruin this day for him. So he chatted with Stiles and his parents for a few minutes longer before they were ready to head over to the studio where their guests were already waiting for them.

"I really hope that the others are going to even her out," Derek said once he was with Stiles in the car.

"We're going to have a party now." Stiles reached over and placed his hand on the nape of Derek's neck. Even under the stiff collar of his shirt and the tie, he could still feel the outline of his collar digging into his skin. Since he was driving Derek couldn't close his eyes but he exhaled slowly, the tension melting away from between his shoulder blades.

"There you go." Stiles left his hand there for a moment longer before he let go of him.

"How can you stay so calm all the time?" Derek wondered.

"I focus on you." Stiles shrugged. "When I take care of you I don't have time to freak out myself."

It made sense. In a very Stiles way.

"And now we have a party to attend." Stiles rubbed his hands. "I want good food and I want to dance the whole night. And I can't fucking wait for them to see the pictures. I would marry you again just because of those photos."

They did not get disappointed.

Stiles and Derek were leading their guests into the studio but Derek didn't have to look over his shoulder to know exactly when they spotted the pictures. There was a stunned silence and after a few seconds surprised noises.

Peter was the first to saunter farther into the room to have a closer look. The catering team had set up everything and was now waiting in the background while soft music was playing. The DJ was already at his place and doing his thing but for now, the room could have been empty without anybody noticing.

"Hey, man." Josh came over to them to give him a hug. "I'd say the surprise was a success."

It totally was. The next few minutes the pictures were the center of attention, the happy couple forgotten for the moment. At least to the people who hadn't seen the photos yet. Derek spotted Lydia who wandered over to where the buffet was set up. She spoke with the woman who was managing the food but as far as Derek could tell, everything was nice and in order.

"They were on time." Josh had followed his line of sight. "I think Lydia scared them. They set everything up in no time. The other guy is in the back to get the drinks ready." He gestured at the office where they were storing everything.

"Thank you." Derek gave him a pat on the shoulder. "And tell your friend that he can drink and eat as much as he wants."

"Will do. But I probably should remind him to stay sober enough to do his job." Josh grinned at him and then left to tell the DJ.

"Two things." Laura appeared at his side. "You really love him and damn, you're a good photographer."

"Tell that Mom," Derek muttered. He'd lost sight of her but last he'd seen her, she hadn't looked pleased.

"Forget Mom, this is your wedding party."

She had a point there.

Right on cue, two servers came out of the back with trays of champagne. Once everybody had a glass in hand, they had grape juice for the kids as well, Derek joined Stiles to officially welcome their guests. At least he had to just stand there, facing the crowd, while Stiles did the talking.

"My dear Hales and Stilinski-McCalls, McCall and Lahey, Boyd, Reyes, Martin and Carters." Stiles made a dramatic pause while Derek threw him a glance. What had happened to "Dear guests"?

"Today is the day of our wedding!" Stiles raised his glass while the crowd was cheering. "Today I vowed to spend the rest of my life with Derek. Alas, the rest of my life is far too short a time to live with such an excellent and admirable man."

There were more cheers but when Derek's gaze fell on Scott and Isaac he caught them exchanging an amused glance.

"My dear guests, I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." Stiles grinned proudly while his words slowly sank in.

Erica whooped and Scott and Isaac dissolved into laughter while Derek just stared at the man he'd married just an hour earlier.

"You didn't …"

"I totally did." Stiles' grin grew even wider.

The laughter was contagious and a second later almost everybody was laughing. It was one way to break the ice, Derek guessed. The only one not at least smiling was his mother but she was the one Stiles had been aiming at with this quote so he couldn't blame her for being miffed.

"Anyway." Stiles raised his voice to be heard over their guests. "I'm glad you're here to celebrate this day with us. Cheers."

They raised their glasses and Derek fought the urge to just down his in one go. Getting drunk as quickly as possible was a tempting idea but he restrained himself.

At least now he could mingle with his guests and was not the center of attention any longer.

"Did you know that he would do that?" Erica came over to him, still giggling.

"You think I would just stand there and let him say it if I did?" Derek raised an eyebrow at her.

"True." She shrugged. "But it was awesome."

Derek wasn't so sure about that but there was nothing he could do about it now. At least he knew that Stiles' family and their friends knew him well enough to know how to take it. Who he was worried about were his parents, though. Especially his mother.

He half expected her to have left already but there she was, standing a bit at the side with his dad and Laura.

It took a few more minutes but then the first people were taking their seats and the rest followed suit. They had chosen the seating in a way that had the least risk of conflict, the only question had been where to fit in Scott and Isaac but they looked quite at home with the rest of their friends.

The only downside of the seating was that Derek was sitting right next to his mom but it was tradition that the parents were sitting with the couple and they had wanted to do at least that one right. She wrinkled her nose at the picture on her table card but that was most likely due to the fact that Stiles had drawn it.

"You could at least have gotten some real servers," Talia complained over the fact that the food wasn't served and that she would have to get it herself from the buffet. Derek chose to ignore that comment and didn't point out that there was somebody at the buffet, helping the guests.

While Talia was looking in the other direction Andrew used the chance to switch their glasses of champagne. His was still almost full while hers had been nearly empty. When he caught Derek's eye, he winked at him. Derek just shook his head.

Before they got to the part with the food, Stiles said a few more words, nice ones this time, and then Scott stood up to say something as well. He told a fun little story about a teenage Stiles who had been determined to look for a dead body in the woods in the middle of the night but then his wheelchair had gotten stuck on a muddy path. They had to call Stiles' dad who had basically towed him out with his cruiser. It got him a round of laughter, the loudest being Stiles how looked more proud of his past shenanigans than anything else.

Scott ended his little speech with a thank you for opening his eyes to certain things, he glanced at Isaac at that, and then he raised his glass to the happy couple.

If this continued like this, Derek would be drunk in no time just from the toasting, especially since he hadn't eaten much the whole day.

But then they got to the food part and everything became less formal.

After dinner, people started to mingle. Laura moved over to the other table and Derek didn't want to know what kind of embarrassing stories his sister and his friends were exchanging.

Lucy had abandoned Stiles to try to make friends with Haley. Since Lucy couldn't read yet, Justin had to read out Haley's messages to her but it seemed to work for them. What kind of worried Derek was that Abby and Peter were standing a bit at the side, talking quietly to each other. Abby had been through a lot lately and he didn't want his uncle to dig in open wounds. But Abby didn't look uncomfortable so Derek didn't go over to intervene.

To his surprise, even his mother warmed up a bit and was now talking to Stiles' parents. The fact that his dad kept supplying her with drinks might play a role in that but if it kept his mother under control he would take it.

"And where's my husband?" Derek wondered but spotted him a second later with Lars, the DJ. Looked as if they would get to the dancing part soon.

This was the only moment Derek wished that Cora was here. According to her, they had ruined her wedding with that one dance and he would have loved to rub it into her face now. They would dance tonight and if Stiles had his way, they would dance the whole night.

Sure enough, Stiles came over to him with a grin on his face.

"Ready to open the dance floor?" He asked but Derek was already holding out his hand to guide him over to said dance floor.

They didn't even have to say anything, people fell quiet and were quickly forming a circle around them.

"Stiles can dance really good," Lucy said to Haley whose hand she was holding. Looked like they had become friends already. But then Derek's focus was on Stiles.

Lars turned up the music and Derek took Stiles' hands.

Dancing with Stiles was different than with other people. Since he didn't have his hands free to move his chair, Derek had to do most of the work but Stiles was working with him and together they moved to the music.

Derek forgot the people around them, his world narrowed down to Stiles and the music and how they moved together as one. He was dancing with his husband.

Eventually, the music stopped and it felt like he was waking up from a dream. He and Stiles were standing in the middle with their families and friends surrounding them. It was almost exactly like it had been at Cora's wedding. There was the same moment of stunned silence that erupted in cheers a second later.

Derek just stood there, holding hands with Stiles, and didn't know how to react to that. But then the music came up again and other couples filled the dance floor.

"May I?" Derek asked for the next dance and Stiles agreed with a wild grin.
