"So it was all for nothing. He could've just asked for help." Linda said, mad at the situation, mad at the perp, especially mad at her husband. "Instead he robbed a bank."
"Sometimes we judge ourselves by our good intentions, but we are judged by our last worst act." Frank turned to the youngest Reagans. "You listening boys?" They nodded.
"So glad I married a hero." Linda mumbled as she grabbed the bread dish. She had to get some air or she was going to cry right there. And she was not going to give Danny that satisfaction.
Danny sighed and put his utensils and napkin down, "Excuse me." He walked into the kitchen, closing the door behind him. "Hey, what's going on? What's the problem, Linda?"
She shrugged off the hand he had placed on her shoulder, simultaneously dropping a roll. "I'm so glad Billy Flood's kid is gonna be okay. But what about are kids, Danny?"
"What about our kids, Linda? Our kids are fine. What are you talking about?"
"Really? Really?" She slammed some bread into the dish, "what's going to happen to our kids the next time you swagger into one of those buildings, and you don't come out?" She hit him in the shoulder, "What about our kids then, Danny, huh? What about me? Son of a b!tch."
"Linda, I knew the guy, I knew what he was doing in the bank, I knew he wasn't going to shoot me."
"You don't know that! You don't know any such thing! That's a load of macho crap! John Wayne," Linda scoffed, slowly loosing her composure. "John Wayne never faced a bullet in his life. John Wayne... I was watching it on tv, Danny. I saw you. It scared the crap out of me."
"Hey," Danny wrapped an arm around her shoulders from behind, her tears finally coming. "Hey, come on. I'm sorry," he whispered into her hair, "I'm so sorry. Look, I love you. I love you and those boys more than anything on this earth, and I promise you I won't let anything happen. You know the first and last thing I think about every day, before I do anything, is to get home to you. I'm sorry."
Linda grasped his arm, moving her thumbs as her tears silently fell. She didn't know what could've happened, and she didn't want to know.
"Hey." Danny turned her around and hooked his finger under her chin, "I love you. With all my heart."
Linda chocked on a son before her lips met his. She hooked her fingers behind his neck, needing the contact. She deepened the kiss as Danny ran his hands up and down her spine. She rested her forehead on his, "You scared me. So much. I don't- I can't- I couldn't-" She chocked on the words, never wanting to think what she'd do without Danny.
"Linda, I can't promise I won't do stupid, pigheaded things, but I can promise I'll stop and think the whole thing through before diving head first." Danny wrapped his arms around her, never wanting to let go.
She clung to his shoulders, crying again. Through her tears, she managed, "I love you. So, so much."
"I love you so much too." Comfortable silence hung in the air until Danny broke it, "we will make this up, right?"
Linda laughed softly, "Yeah." She looked up at him, her eyes still shinning with tears. "I promise." She kissed him passionately, groaning when someone walked into the kitchen.
"You two okay?" It was Nicky, Who was sent for dessert and to check on her Aunt and Uncle.
"Yeah." Danny grabbed Linda's hand as she wiped her tears, "we're okay."
