Star Wars Galaxy September 0 ABY (2396 C.E.)

The Imperial Place on Imperial Center the Core, morning

Red and blue lightsabers clashed noisily. Lady Kilyri pressed her attacks to no avail. Her opponent the legendary Jedi Master Obi-wan Kenobi effortlessly stonewalled her every strike. His execution of Soresu flawlessly.

"You must be aware your Makashi/Shii-Cho hybrid will never break through my guard," Obi-wan said dryly.

"It doesn't have to," Kilyri said.

Following another unsuccessful flurry, Kilyri pointed her free hand down at the metal floor. She shot forth a spark of red Force Lightning. The electrical charge traveled along the metal plating until it connected with Obi'wan's legs shocking his body. Obi-wan staggered just long enough for Kilyri's crimson blade to penetrate his guard followed by his chest.

Obi-wan shimmer before he transformed into PROXY. "Well done Lady Lumiya." The specialized holographic equipped combat droid complimented his mistress by using her Sith name. "A most creative use of distraction." He paused for a moment. "Do you wish to spar with a different opponent?"

"No, that will be all for today PROXY." Kilyri aka Lumiya said dismissing the droid. She tucked a long strand of damp dirty blonde hair behind one of her slightly pointed ears.

"As you wish, mistress" PROXY said with a bow.

Lumiya left the training room. She quickly returned to her private chambers by way of a secret passage. It would not do if someone saw her up and about before noon. She had an image to protect. Teenage wild girl, vapid Princess Kilyri was a carefully constructed fiction one she must maintain. While part of Lumiya hated being thought of as a bimbo she knew such a public image had its advantages. How did The Emperor put it - she was a garishly decorated puzzle box inside of which dwelt a coiled viper, ready to strike the unwary. At that moment Lumiya felt sorry for her father. Unlike herself and the Emperor, he had no such dual identity to deceive the public with. No, her father was Darth Vader Imperial Hammer. His sole identity inspired open fear but could not be used to lull anyone into a false sense of security. Being possessed of a dual nature did have its advantages she conceded with a grin.

In front of the Imperial Senate Building, several Hours Lady

"Oh, Grandpa you're too good to me." Kilyri squealed, appreciating the expensive speeder keys Emperor Palpatine made a show of giving his adopted granddaughter in front of the press.

"Dear, it is the least I can for you," Palpatine said smiling warmly. "Will you accompany me to the Senate this day?"

"Of course, Grandpa," Kilyri said taking Palpatine by the arm.

Kilyri smiled genuinely at the gathered Press. What fools the members of the Press core were. How she loathed them. Today everything would change. Today she and the Emperor would dissolve the useless Senate. Today the parasitic politicians and the unwashed masses would experience their last gasp of illusionary power. Today Alderaan would be destroyed by her father for the transgressions of its traitorous leader. Today the Rebellion would be strangled in its cradle. Today the true reign of the Sith would begin.

Borg Unimatrix 004 Gamma Quadrant

"Stand aside," Queen Seven mentally commanded the four drones who blocked her path. When they failed to do so she added more forcefully. "You must comply." She considered commanding her complement of eight drones to clear a path but before she could give them any such order her eldest offspring arrived.

"Permit our queen access." The Borg Princess mentally commanded while a smug expression ghosted across her face.

The four drones parted allowing Queen Seven to approach her daughter who stood in the center of the green lite hexagonal royal chamber. Queen Seven did not stand on ceremony she cut directly the chase. "You have bypassed my command pathways and blocked information exchange. I can no longer hear the voices of your branch of our collective. Explain yourself, Princess Epsilon."

Queen Seven had used the letters from the Earthling Greek Alphabet to designate each of her five daughters as opposed to numerical values. She had bypassed Alpha through Gamma to avoid confusion with galactic quadrant designations utilized by many species (thanks to the every expanding influence of the Federation). Her eldest Epsilon was also her most troublesome.

"I felt there was no need to trouble you with matters which do not concern our wider collective," Epsilon said by way of explanation. "Unlike my four sisters, I work more efficiently without direct supervision. I do not require a leash, mother." She added a spiteful tone in her voice.

"Reestablish my command pathways and reinstate normal information sharing, at once." Queen Seven said sternly. When Princess Epsilon did nothing Queen Seven snapped. "You will comply!"

"I comply," Princess Epsilon said an undertone of dissatisfaction in her voice.

"As punishment for your defiance, you will perform no assimilation campaigns without my approval." Queen Seven said. Princess Epsilon glared at her mother. Her silver eyes flashed with fury. "You are distressed. Low your firewall. Share your thoughts with me, my daughter, comply."

"It is not fair." Princess Epsilon fumed. "You created me to expand our collective yet you hold me back. I am destined to be a queen, am I not?"

"Your function is to lead." Queen Seven confirmed.

"Then let me lead mother." Princess Epsilon said.

"Your function is to be subordinate to my own. I am the queen of our collective, not you Epsilon. I determine the scope of your duties and those of your sisters. Will you comply?" Queen Seven said testing her daughter's loyalty.

"I will comply." Princess Epsilon said.

"Be warned, if your compliance lapses I shall revoke your command protocols." Queen Seven said.

"You cannot, I am far more efficient than my sisters! My branch is a-," Princess Epsilon said.

"I have lingered here long enough. My decision is finale, Epsilon, " Queen Seven said waving her hand at her wayward daughter. "Do not make my return necessary."

Queen Seven left with her drones. She returned to her diamond-shaped royal vessel. Minutes later she departed via the transwarp network for her home Unimatrix 001.

Toral renegade Klingon from the disgraced House of Duras emerged from a corridor once Queen Seven departed. "Your mother treats you with such respect, Epsilon." He chuckled.

Princess Epsilon glared at Toral. "I could destroy you with ease, Klingon." She warned.

"No doubt," Toral said with a smirk. "But if you did how would you obtain an outlawed Romulan Thalaron radiation emitter without the other Borg discovering your duplicity?"

"Do not test my patience, Klingon. My assistance is vital to your cause. Remember our bargain," Princess Epsilon said. "In return for the Thalaron radiation device, I will provide you a group of my cubes to conquer your homeworld Qo'noS."

"We each gain an empire, an equitable bargain," Toral said. He then added. "I never thought Borg would kill there own." He correctly suspected Epsilon would somehow use Thalaron radiation to assassinate her mother and sisters.

"My mother and sisters are weak. Only under my leadership will the Collective prosper reaching new heights of perfection. Now you must depart. I can not mask your presence or that of your vessel from the others much longer." Princess Epsilon said.

"I'll be in touch," Toral said before he left, no reply was forthcoming from Epsilon who remained silent.

On her own, Princess Epsilon cast out her mind via a carefully hidden command/communication pathway. Far away in another galaxy, her call was answered by three cubes one of which was badly damaged. She had sent five cubes but only three survived. They were part of her secret plan to make the Collective more perfect than ever, a plan she had not shared with her mother or sisters. Although the link was tenuous due to great distance it was strong enough for her current purpose to learn how their secret mission was proceeding

Chiss Ascendancy Unknown Regions

"Multiple attempts to assimilate Species 12569 Chiss have failed. Chiss military technology and tactics render Chiss resistance level extremely high." Princess Epsilon's drones dutifully reported. Unlike their commanding unit, they were incapable of feeling frustrated. "Conclusion, we require direction from an independent mind capable of dynamic strategic planning to effectively organize our campaign."

"I concur," Princess Epsilon mentally communicated. "Implement Action 420."

"Accessing genetic material archive. Preparing DNA sample. Initiating cloning procedure. Inserting nanoprobes." Epsilon's drones reported. Several hours later their task was nearing completion. The Borg unit had reached its greatly accelerated maturity. "Establishing unit link to our branch of the Collective, process complete."

"Your designation is Locutus of Borg." Princess Epsilon mentally stated. "Your primary objective is to coordinate the assimilate of all unassimilated species in your present galaxy of operation beginning with Species 12569 Chiss."

"I will comply." The new Locutus of Borg said. The red laser scanner mounted to the right side of his skull shone forth as dispassionately as did his gaze.

Author's Note -

This chapter was partially inspired by several Star Wars Legends novels, the Star Wars Force Unleashed games, and the Beta canon Star Trek Armada video game series.

With this chapter, I have laid the groundwork for some original content between the events of "A New Hope" (which will be concluded in the next two full chapters) and "Empire Strikes Back". I hope everyone will enjoy what I have planned.
