The next day, I heard there would be 8th grade graders performing during our graduation. I decided to sign up to do my dance moves during the study hall.

I've been dancing since I was little. That would be cool. There would be auditions after school tomorrow. I don't know what song I want to dance to yet. I asked if I could get to pick and they said they do random songs, so I'm okay with that.

When I told Mallory that, she said, "I'll be there to see you audition."

"Do you plan to do anything?" I asked.

"No," replied Mallory.

"Why don't you audition with me?" I suggested. "We can practice together."

"Okay," said Mallory.

The auditions are after school tomorrow, so we can do that today if you have no plans," I said.

"I don't baby – sit until tomorrow night with my siblings and Stacey will be with me," said Mallory.

"Perfect," I said.

We practice for everything often. When we went to the sign – up, which were held in the school library, and I added that Mallory will be auditioning with me and they're okay with that. So they added her with me.

After school, we decided to practice at my house since I have a barre downstairs. I do that every morning before school.

At my house, I took out my ballerina outfit that I'll be using to audition. I don't have any extra for Mallory, but any outfit is fine according to the guidelines. I just thought it would be easier she can wear a ballerina outfit.

"We can go to the mall so we can match," said Mallory.

"I thought about it, too," I said.

That's what we did. I know where to go for that. We found a matching outfit after a clerk helped us. Back at my house, she put it on and we practiced together for a few hours. She enjoyed it.

"I think we'll do just fine," I said.

"Me too," said Mallory.

"Want me to hold that until we audition? I'll be leaving the outfits in my locker," I said.

"Sure, that would be a good idea," said Mallory.

She changed back into her regular clothes and we pout the outfits in that shopping bag. We don't want them to be wrinkled in our backpacks.

The next day at school, I was excited about the auditions. Our lockers are near each other's.

"I'm a little nervous," said Mallory.

"You'll do fine," I said.

"At least we're doing it together," said Mallory.

"I was too excited to sleep last night," I said.

After school, I got the shopping bag and we went to change them in the bathroom before heading to the auditorium. There were a lot of kids that are trying out, too.

"I bet this will be a while," I said.

"I know. I'm not baby – sitting until 5:00 PM., but Stacey said she'll have Claudia in case we're out in time. It's only until I get home. Mom and I talked about that and she agreed with that idea," said Mallory.

"That works," I said. "The sign said it's until 5:00 PM anyway."

"Oh, yeah. Are we allowed to leave after we audition?" asked Mallory.

"I think so," I said. "They usually let you do that."

There were different groups like singing, dancing, and anything else including poems about 8th grade graduation. It was our turn. We get to dance to the Nutcracker. After that was done, they were impressed.

"That was wonderful, girls," said the director.

"Thanks," we both said.

"When will we hear from you?" I asked.

"It will be posted in a few days or sooner," replied the director.

"Okay," said Mallory.

"You may leave now," said the woman.

We left and change back into our regular clothes.

"I'm going to call Stacey to tell her we won't need Claudia now since we got out early," said Mallory.

"Okay," I said.

The next day, when I got to school, I saw the list.

"Wow. That was fast," I said.

That was when I got excited when I saw our names next to our dance move group. Wait until I tell Mallory! I ran over to her.

"What is it?" asked Mallory.

"Guess what? We made it!" I exclaimed.

"Really?" asked Mallory.

"Yes. I just saw the list," I said.

"Nice," said Mallory.

We jumped up and down with excitement.

"I can't wait to tell our parents," said Mallory.

"Maybe we can celebrate this weekend," I said.

"Good idea," said Mallory.

"The rehearsals start next week, but it's from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. It works out for me because I have dance class until 5:00 PM," I said. "We can also practice like we did before the auditions."

"Okay," said Mallory.
