"Why do you even hang out with me? Goodness knows I'm not the easiest person to be around!"
"Why?... cause you make me smile."
Danny Reagan was convinced he was the luckiest guy around. He was getting good grades, he liked life in general, and he had the most amazing girlfriend. His girl was the prettiest girl in school, and she was his. She had soft, blonde hair, beautiful blue eyes, and legs for days. She was nice to everyone, but shot them down on their wrong ideas if she needed to.
The only thing Danny wondered was why she stuck with him. He had some wild antics, he was rebellious, a hot head... why did she put up with him?
"Linda, can I ask you a question?" Danny wondered as they walked home together.
"Shoot."
"Why do you even hang out with me?" Danny shrugged, "Goodness knows I'm not the easiest person to be around!"
Linda stopped and looked at him, "why?" She paused, thinking about it for a moment. "Cause you make me smile."
"Really?" He smirked a little, continuing their walk.
"Yeah. You're a funny guy! Like, the other day, when the teacher asked you something about what was happening in Chicago? You're answer was, 'well, Whaddaya expect? It's Chicago!'" Linda clasped her hands together and laughed. "I have a sore on the inside of my cheek because I was bitting it to keep from laughing."
Danny nodded, "is that the only reason?"
"No, you're nice. A great big brother-"
"I fight with them all the time!"
"But if someone messes with them, you're right there, guns blazing." Linda made guns with her forefingers and thumbs. "On the more artificial side of things, you're really cute!"
Danny smiled as she bounced a little. "Well, I like you, too. You're kind and funny. Compassionate. You're getting all A's." He watched her shrug, "so you're really smart. And the way you handle my little brother... I bet you'll be a good Mom one day."
"I wanna be a Mom. But marriage first."
Danny nodded, "fuddy duddy."
"I am not a fuddy duddy!" Linda stopped, putting her hands on her hips, acting offended.
"Okay, not all of you. But your ideas about dating and marriage and sex..."
"Oh really? You think my ideas are old fashioned, out dated, antiquated?"
"Uh... yeah?"
"If they were all that, would I do this?" She grabbed his shirt and thrust her lips onto his. She pulled back, resting her heels on the ground. Her arms behind her, she turned her head a little bit. "Hmm?"
"I bet you're gonna be a bitch in the bedroom."
Linda laughed out loud, "see? I'm laughing!... and I don't know yet."
"Well, then, your future husband oughta have fun discovering all your kinks." Danny stuck his hands in his pockets as they started walking again.
"You'll have fun. After all, I'm gonna marry you." The blonde proclaimed firmly.
"Linda, you don't know what the future brings. I mean, I'd love to marry you, but we're only in high school. We still have college, careers... maybe we'll meet new people."
"You're a real kill joy, you know that? Just let me have my fantasy!"
He chuckled, "okay, okay. Deal..." he stopped walking and turned Linda towards him. "Promise me something. No matter what happens, even if we end up marrying other people, we'll always be friends."
"Of course! You were a friend before a boyfriend. I'll always be friends with you Reagans. You're the best friends I have!"
"Good." Even if the teens went in different directions in their lives, they would always have one another to fall back on; a shoulder to cry on, just a really good friend. But deep, deep down, they knew they were going to spend the rest of their lives together.
