Chapter fourteen: Into The Wind

The camp is dark, all inhabitants asleep. The only sound comes from the crackling fire in the center. It's around two-thirty in the morning, and for some inexplicable reason, Keira finds herself rising back to consciousness. And apparently Sona felt it too, because she sat up, looking confused. They lock eyes.

'Something is off, Sona.'

'I know, I can feel it too.' Sona pulls herself to her feet and gives the camp a once over. Everyone is asleep, even Kimi and Junko. Despite the serenity of the camp, there was something in the air, a sort of charged energy.

Keira spared a glance over at Inuyasha. Out cold. Her eyes narrowed. She locks eyes with Sona again. 'Think it's a sleeping spell?'

'Could be. But then why weren't we affected?' Keira shrugs at her sister's question, honestly not knowing. She's just about to open her mouth, a spark reminding her of a conversation from last night, when she tenses.

Just then, the twins are struck in the head from behind with startling strength. They flinch, faltering for a second, and then drop to the ground, unconscious. A figure grins in the darkness, shiny white teeth gleaming in the dim light of the moon, and grabs the limp bodies of the women before disappearing into the foliage.

The morning comes as a complete shock to the younger members of the group, being startled out of slumber from a loud expletive, courtesy of Inuyasha. Kagome sleepily picks herself up out of her sleeping bag as Inuyasha sniffs around the camp, darting about like a hyperactive two-year-old. "What's wrong?" She asks, absently noting Junko and Kimi padding around nervously. 'That's weird..', she thinks. She hasn't known the dogs for very long, not as long as her sisters, but she's fairly sure that they aren't nearly this skittish on a normal day. Finally, Inuyasha stops sniffing around the camp, and parks himself right where Sona and Keira had been fallen asleep the night before.

"Is something wrong?" Sango asks, reaching for Hiraikotsu.

Inuyasha looked up, his expression grave. "It's the twins. They're gone."

DUN DUN DUN!

UH OH! The twins are gone! Well, shit, someone's screwed. A plan is on the air, and it isn't good. (By the way, does anyone envision a police dog when Inuyasha just plops down right there? I sure as hell did.) Also sorry chapter fourteen isn't all that long, but I needed a bit of a segue and I couldn't put this thing in chapter thirteen.

Come back to see the villain behind the dog-napping!
