Linda crossed her arms, wrapping her coat tighter around herself. She leaned against the squad car and closed her eyes, her head titling to the sky. She bit her lip, willing the tears to stay at bay. Her boys were sitting in the squad car, seemingly sleeping soundly.

Linda shook her head- why had they been exposed to this? Sure, she always knew in the back of her mind that something like this would and could happen, but she hoped that it wouldn't. She remembered the conversation she had had with her husband.

"Getting shot at is scary."

"It is. But we're prepared. Besides, it's in my blood. And I'll be careful, I promise."

How she hated that conversation. She had had one similar to it when he told her he was joining the marines.

Danny walked up to his wife, "everything's done. I'll find this son of a b!tch, I promise."

She nodded, looking at their car. The windshield was cracked and a bullet sat in the leather of the back seat. It had hit right between Jack and Sean. Quietly, she wondered, "are you going back to the station?"

"No," he pushed her hair behind her ear and laid his hand on her cheek. "I'm needed here." He hugged her tightly, wishing she and his boys hadn't been exposed to something awful like this.

Linda laid in bed, her arms crossed over the covers. She kept seeing the seen. Danny had almost hit a pedestrian who had jumped out in the middle of the road. He pointed a gun at the car and shot. The blonde stared at the ceiling, exaggerating sigh after sigh.

Danny came out of the bathroom, shutting the light off. He looked at his wife, frowning when he heard her small sniffles. He sat on the bed, "you're still awake."

"Of course I'm still awake. Somebody shot at our family, Danny. At our boys. At me, at you. Granted they missed, but still!" She huffed, holding back the tears that had wanted to fall as soon as the bullet broke the windshield.

"I'm sorry."

Linda sat up, "it wasn't your fault, Danny." She looked at her husband, his head hung low. She put her hand on his cheek, comforting him.

He smiled a little grasped her hand, pressing kisses to the palm. "Are you okay?"

Linda nodded, then shook her head, the tears finally coming. She let her husband pull her into a hug, relieved she could let it out. She fell asleep that night in Danny's arms, her tears caked onto her cheeks and Danny's chest. Even though she may have had the scare of a life time, she knew she would get through it, as long as Danny was standing by her side.
