The Untold Story of Serena Butterfly

Chapter 76: Tempting Fate

In Avalon...

It was night time.

Pamela was trying to calm down the civilians in the throne room that were outraged of Drakath's actions on his kingdom and on Varanas.

"King Drakath is refusing to recognise your children as his heirs!"

"What game is he playing at?!"

"Is he trying to have a bastard as his successor?"

"The king is mad!"

"Magic has been corrupting Varanas for years and their king was trying to burn it out!"

Pamela narrowed her eyes and stood up from her throne.

Now they were going to far.

"ENOUGH!"Pamela roared in anger.

The civilians grew startled and immediately fell silent of the queen's outburst.

Pamela slowly took a deep breath before talking.

"Open your eyes, everyone!"Pamela snapped. "Your wrong! Magic is supposed to bring peace! It's true purpose is to bring harmony and love! If not the misguidance and evil actions of man like them, war itself would never existed! All could've lived in peace, but for them peace wasn't enough. They are so blinded by hate. Can't you see? Dark magic is dangerous and they are misusing it!"

The guests murmured at each other while others whispered.

"I believe in a Avalon that is independent, prosperous and peaceful."Pamela admitted. "An Avalon that won't bring fright, bullying and inequality of any sort, no matter who or what skills we have. I may not be born here, but as Queen of Avalon, I vow to bring unity not only in this kingdom, but also Varanas, Zandorya and all places that deserve our friendship and trust."

The guests cheered and clapped at Pamela.

"Yay, Queen Pamela!"A woman remarked.

"Long live the Queen!"A man shouted.

Pamela smiled at the civilians, now having the confidence to say what she wanted.

Mercedes was secretly spying at the meeting in the throne room before walking away with a glare.

In Mewni...

Valen walked by himself in the Forest of Certain Death.

"I shouldn't be walking around here."Valen thought. "I don't know why but something feel like I've been watched here."

A sudden sound of stick breaking caused Valen to become alarmed and turn around.

"Hello?"Valen asked. "Is someone there?"

There was no respond except the sound of the bushes moving.

Valen slowly approached the bushes that was moving, ready to take out his sword.

Out of the bushes, the shadow beast roared and launched towards Valen causing him to scream in horror.

The Next Morning...

Pamela was talking to Isobel in the garden.

"Word has spread of your fairness."Isobel stated with a smile. "The justice you delivered, even to those who do not share your faith. Requests are pouring in from areas all around, begging for a visit from the queen."

Dimitri walked up to Pamela and Isobel.

"What's wrong, dad?"Pamela asked.

"Can we talk alone?"Dimitri said.

"Sure."Pamela replied.

Pamela stood up and walked with Dimitri to her chambers using dimensional scissors.

The brunette notice the herb bag dangling on her father's hand.

"What are these herbs you've been taking, father?"Pamela demanded taking the bag. "Is mother trying to make you feel ill again?"

"No."Dimitri replied with a frown.

"Then what?"Pamela questioned. "These herbs are old."

"I am dying and I'm leaving you alone to a terribly uncertain future."Dimitri stated.

Pamela paled. "But you look..."

"The physicians say it originated in my lymph and lungs."Dimitri replied rubbing his forehead. "I've been taking tinctures in increasing amounts. I can't go without them for even a day or the pain grows worse."

"You will stay here, then."Pamela admitted worriedly. "We will take care of you. Our physicians..."

"I wish they can help but I cannot protect you when I'm gone."Dimitri admitted. "I couldn't even protect you when you needed it most. Nobody could."

"But I am alive."Pamela reminded with a weak smile.

"You are a fighter."Dimitri commented. "Fight for yourself, your kingdom, your throne. Have a male heir. Be unassailable."

"Lay down your burdens, dad, your sounding like mum."Pamela stated with a small frown. "I am no longer your worry. I promise you, I will let no one take my crown from me. I know how to keep my life, my crown and I will."

Pamela hugged Dimitri tightly as a few tears fell down her face.

"I want you to have this."Dimitri said. "It's very important."

Dimitri hands a closed scroll to Pamela.

"What is it?"Pamela asked.

"Something my mother kept, but it's not something good."Dimitri replied with a sad frown. "I fear it would come true."

"I love you, daddy."Pamela whispered with a brave smile.

"I love you too, Pam."Dimitri complemented kindly.

Dimitri walked into the portal and vanished.

"My dear grandchildren, eventually an inevitable curse."Pamela read and paled. "A curse and death shall be thrown upon this family. I've tried to ask for help but nothing worked."

Pamela rolled up the scroll and covered her face.

"Grandma Uranus..."Pamela said sadly.

In the Field...

Drakath was spending time with Louis, Andromeda and Harriet.

"So how was your meeting in Zandorya?"Louis asked.

"Unwelcoming that will be the last time, I'll be there."Drakath complemented.

"They must really hate your huts."Harriet joked.

Drakath frowned. "Right."

Drakath notice Andromeda staring at arrow target faces.

"Care to try your skill?"Drakath asked.

"I've never held a bow, daddy."Andromeda replied.

"Let's see you're right-handed, so this one should do."Drakath commented as he stood up and took out a sky blue bow from one of the weapons box.

"Well, I might be left-handed."Andromeda suggested. "Some mewmans are."

"But your not."Harriet chuckled.

Louis rolled his eyes at his younger sister.

Drakath handed the bow to Andormeda and he put a vambrace on her free hand.

"This is the vambrace. It goes on the non-dominant arm."Drakath explained. "Because mistakes in this game can hurt."

Andromeda put the arrow on her bow, ready to shoot it to the target.

"No, no. You're too quick."Drakath admitted. "The eye is more important than the hand. See your target, understand what you're aiming for, don't just physically let fly. Now, sight the center. The rest of the circles are irrelevant."

Andromeda took a deep breath and her arrow hit the center of the target face.

"Well done, Andy."Louis chuckled.

"Awesome!"Harriet remarked while clapping.

Andromeda smiled in relief.

"Congratulations."Drakath stated with a smile. "Of course, the beginning is often promising. The trick is to keep it going that way."

"Father, what is a shadow knight?"Louis asked as he closed his book.

"The shadow knight is an unholy warrior who use fear, pain and disease to attack all that is good in the universe."Drakath responded. "He has no qualms about his method of defeating an opponent, including leaching their health and strength to enhance his own. Among the dark spells available to him, the shadow knight can cause an enemy to run in fear and then slow their movement, catching up and striking them repeatedly where their armour is most vulnerable."

"Yikes."Andromeda said with a startled look.

"He sounds worse than the raging dragon, Belial."Harriet complemented.

"But what the legend has to do with our kingdom?"Louis asked.

"My father once told me of a prophecy that a knight in black armour will one day rise and slay a King of Avalon for taking away what he loved most."Drakath responded. "But I have doubt that's ever going to come true."

Louis, Andromeda and Harriet looked at each other, but didn't say anything.

"Anyway, let's go back on our game."Drakath chuckled. "The winner gets to decide which flavour your mother's cake will be."

"Yes!"Andromeda and Harriet cheered.

"I'll win obviously."Louis joked.

Andromeda smiled and rolled her eyes at her brother.

Harriet smirked. "As if."

In the Mountains of Dragons...

Pamela rode on a unicorn that carefully went up the road that was surrounded by mountains.

The brown haired woman wore a white tail jacket with a pink interior and one wide broad tail, brown pants, black gloves and black white boots with high heels and multiple buttons on each side. Under her jacket was a pink corset curved in the middle and her brown hair was tied in a french braid.

Pamela went off her unicorn and patted his head.

"Wait here."Pamela instructed.

Pamela slowly and carefully approached a dragon that had yellow skin mixed with red and purple.

The dragon opened his big white coloured eyes when he saw Pamela.

"Why have my slumber been disturbed?"Wyvern questioned.

"You posses the gift of foresight."Pamela replied. "I seek an answer from you."

"Unfortunately I cannot assist you."Wyvern stated. "When I speak mewmans and monsters misinterpret my words and lose their perspectives. I have stopped gazing into the future."

"I am of Jushtin Butterfly's bloodline."Pamela admitted. "I have heard you were close to my many greats grandmother Cosmo."

"Pig goats are close to mewmans as food, not friends."Wyvern commented. "So too are dragons, we have never been friends to mewmans. I see...so you are Pamela. I have had visions of your arrival. I guess this is the time..."

"If you knew I was coming you would know why I am here."Pamela said.

"As your grandmother said, a curse and death surround your own demise."Wyvern responded. "Tis nothing to fear. No life can escape death. When life ends, a world is sealed."

"If you know my fate, it is pointless to discuss my death."Pamela commented.

"Yes, that is correct."Wyvern replied.

"Please tell me what the future holds."Pamela suggested.

"Everything has already been written in the prophesies."Wyvern admitted. "I have nothing more to add. The path to take will be indicated by your mentor."

"My mentor?"Pamela asked.

"Death cannot be avoided but fate can be redirected."Wyvern complemented.

"Are you suggesting destiny can be changed?"Pamela asked with a hint of hope.

"I exist for guidance."Wyvern replied. "Though I be not rewarded, I must serve my purpose. Until as the prophecy states 'the Shadow Knight takes my life'."

Pamela let out a startled gasp.

"So the legend would come true?"Pamela thought with a hint of fear.

"Deny fate, if you wish."Wyvern said. "That is your duty in your demise. Now please go, my end draws near."

Pamela simply nodded and walked off.

In Avalon Castle...

The people were celebrating Pamela's birthday in Avalon Castle.

"Happy Birthday, mum!"Louis, Andromeda and Harriet admitted and held up a ruby cocoa chocolate cake. "Your the greatest mum and queen ever!"

Pamela giggled and blew out her candles on her cake causing everyone to clap at her.

Afterwards...

Drakath brought Pamela to his chambers to show the jewels, he brought for her.

"One, rubies set in circlets of gold."Drakath said. "A second, a precious stone upon a bed of gold and pearl. Third, small and large drops of pearl with gold and purple and the detail of a lion's head. And lastly, feathers of silver, gold and amber. Jewels fit for a queen, my dear."

"You didn't have to get such expensive things for my birthday."Pamela giggled.

"My love."Drakath whispered with a smirk. "Anything for you."

"Forgive me."Pamela admitted with a small smile. "I spoke of things I should not."

"No, no."Drakath said. "I give you anything that we may always speak freely with each other. Honestly, openly and with a true heart. For me, that is the true definition of love."

"I see."Pamela replied. "And there is something else you want to tell me isn't?"

"I'm sorry."Drakath apologised. "About Nell. About all the foolish ways that I've tried to manage things."

"None of that matters now."Pamela assured. "But it breaks my heart to see you love others."

Drakath hugged Pamela.

"I'll be a better husband and father from now on."Drakath vowed.

Pamela nodded, but deep down was worried about Wyvern told her.

"Hey, dad, mum!"Andromeda greeted happily as she came in. "Anita is handing out the cakes! Come on or they will run out of slices!"

"We will be right there, sweetie."Pamela replied.

Drakath and Pamela went out of the room while holding hands with each other.

In Butterfly Castle...

Charlotte wrapped a bandage around Valen's wounded arm that had a bite mark while Artix and Pamela's cousin Saturn watched.

Saturn Butterfly was a young woman with short black hair, magenta eyes, pale skin and deep violet cheek marks in the shape of triangles. She wore a white long-sleeve coat with a silver collar over a black, long-sleeve dress. The skirt she wore was silver with white trim. She also wore black leggings with dark grey diamonds that cover the sides of the legs and black heels.

"Thank you for saving me."Valen admitted.

"No problem."Saturn responded. "I'm still sort of shocked to know that beast was actually in the mines."

"So what is your weapon called?"Artix asked.

"It's a spear known as a psypher."Saturn replied holding out her spear. "It collects spirits that haunts battlefields and use their power to smite enemies."

"That's impressive."Valen said.

"Your weapon is sort of the opposite of what Mercedes does."Artix remarked. "She breaks people's spirits even if they are good or bad."

Saturn frowned. "You do know Mercedes is my mum, right?"

"Sorry."Artix apologised with a nervous smile.

Then Listol came into the hospital room.

"Mr Hughes, I thought our appointment was tomorrow."Valen said.

"You were bitten by the Beast."Listol said with a frown. "You bear his mark now."

"Sir, there are many of us here who are looking for a natural explanation."Charlotte commented.

"I was told it heals in an unnatural way."Listol stated. "Will you let him murder your family and friends?"

"Valen wouldn't hurt anyone unless if it was enemy."Artix reminded with a glare.

"Well, he's a stranger here at Mewni, Mr Wilson and that makes him now very...dangerous."Listol answered.

"Because I was a slave boy from somewhere else and brought here?"Valen questioned.

"Mr Hughes, your an expert of knowing vicious beings."Saturn complemented. "Isn't there something that we could do so that will make everyone in Mewni calm down from this?"

"We can either kill Valen or ask Rhombulus to crystallise him."Listol suggested. "Those are the only options."

A startled look grew on Valen's face.

"We choose none of them."Charlotte answered with a glare.

"Very well then."Listol said simply as he walked away. "But if you become a mindless soul eating beast, Valen. Everyone will turn against you and want your head rotting on a spike."

Valen, Charlotte, Artix and Saturn glared angrily at Listol as he went out of sight.

Valen slowly rubbed the bite mark on his bandaged arm with a hint of worry.

He hoped deep down what Listol said to him won't come true and none of the people close to him will not get hurt by his actions.

Especially Pamela.
