(After 'The Change in the Game')
Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooooo
Not sure if she was making a mistake, Brennan walked into Angela's office and once she made sure that Angela was alone, shut the door behind her. "May I speak to you?"
Curious, Angela turned away from her PC to face her friend. "Sure, what's up? I'm still working on the reconstruction but you can have your notes back. I'm done with them."
"Thank you." Moving over to where Angela was sitting, Brennan sat down on the chair next to her desk. "I wish to talk to you about this morning."
"Sure, what about it?" Uncertain what Brennan was talking about, Angela decided to let Brennan talk at her own pace.
"Remember when I told you that I might have a stomach virus . . . I lied." Brennan winced. She prided herself on being truthful and she was embarrassed that she had actually told her best friend a lie, even if it was for a good reason. "I'm pregnant."
Stunned, Angela took a few moments to assimilate what Brennan had said. Finally reacting, she stood up, leaned over and hugged her friend. "I'm so happy for you, Brennan. This is so exciting." Not sure why she was being so emotional, Angela cried.
Uncomfortable, Brennan stood up and returned the hug. "I don't want anyone else to know about this until my second trimester. I wish to make sure my pregnancy is a viable one before I make a public announcement."
"I understand and I won't tell anyone, Bren." Moving away, Angela retrieved a tissue from her desk, wiped away a few happy tears and blew her nose. "I didn't know you were trying to have a baby." She remembered not so long ago when her friend had proclaimed that she would never have children. It looked like things had changed.
"I wasn't." Brennan shrugged her shoulders. "Booth and I use protection most of the time when we're having intercourse, but we do forget sometimes."
Amused, Angela chuckled. "Yeah, that's what happened to me and Jack." Sitting down, Angela folded her hands on her lap. "Is Booth happy? This will be his second child, or at least two as far as I know."
"He only has one child at the moment, Angela and yes, he's happy." Brennan was a little annoyed but decided not to make an issue about Angela's comment. "He wanted to make an announcement as soon as I confirmed I was pregnant, but I asked him to wait. He loves children and he's a wonderful father. Our child will be lucky to have a man like Booth for a father."
"The baby will be lucky to have you as a Mom, Bren." Angela was confident that Brennan would make a great mother. She knew that Brennan had a hard time showing emotions around strangers, but when it came to family and friends, she was sympathetic and compassionate. "And you have me to come to if you have any questions. I'm learning what it's like to be a Mom and I can help you avoid my mistakes."
Grateful that she had such a good friend, Brennan leaned over and placed her hand on Angela's arm. "Thank you. I don't have a mother or other close female relative to rely upon and neither does Booth, so your offer is appreciated."
"Oh, I forgot you're both orphans." Angela vowed to herself to help as much as she could.
Not willing to go into Booth's personal history, Brennan let that comment go by. Since no one knew where Marianne Booth was, Booth might as well be an orphan as far as she was concerned. "Booth has experience as a father and I will also be counting on him to help me. He says in the first year, our biggest purchase for the baby will be diapers. I have read that most experts say that a baby will use between 2,500 and 3,000 diapers in their fist year. I assume my baby will not be an exception."
Chuckling, Angela nodded her head. "I think Michael-Vincent might be going for the record, but yeah, better start stockpiling now. The last thing you want to do is run out of diapers. Oh, and baby wipes . . . Don't worry Bren. It's going to be okay. We'll both raise brilliant kids who'll take over the world when they grow up."
"I don't think you should count on them taking over the world, but statistically our children should be above average if not exceptional." Since she had work to do, Brennan stood up. "I will take these notes and start entering them into the system. Once we have a reconstruction of the victim's face, send it to Booth. He wants to begin an investigation as soon as he has something to work with.
"Sure, Bren and congratulations." Handing her the folder, Angela knew that Brennan was back in serious mode. "I should have something by tomorrow morning."

Excited and anticipating a happy moment with his grandfather, Booth entered the Retirement home with Brennan at his side and made his way towards Hank's room. "I hope he likes the cookies we brought. He hated the ones we brought the last time."
"They were healthy flaxseed cookies. I thought he might enjoy a healthier cookie than he's used to." Brennan was still annoyed that Hank had put them in the communal room so he wouldn't have to eat them.
"Well, he only likes chocolate chip and Oreos. I told you he wouldn't like the healthy cookies." Booth knew that Brennan meant well but changing Hank's eating habits was like trying to turn a lion in to a vegetarian. "It's just better to give him the cookies he likes. He's old and it's too late to change his ways now."
"I suppose." Brennan noticed that the door to Hank's room was open. "He might already have company."
Surprised, Booth hurried his steps and once he was at the door looked in while he knocked on the door frame. "Anyone home?"
Glad to see his grandson, Hank stood up and waved Booth and his partner into the room "Hey, this must be my lucky day." Pointing at Jared, Hank smiled. "I wasn't expecting both of my boys to show up today."
A little shocked, Booth entered the room, walked over to where Hank was standing and hugged him. Once he was done, he stepped out of the way so Brennan could hug the old man. "I didn't know you were back in the country, Jared. I thought you and Padme were visiting her grandparents. You said you were going to stay for a month."
"We just got back. Her grandfather was dying and he only lasted four days after we got there. We stayed until the funeral then came home." Padme had taken the old man's death badly since Harish had been the last grandparent she had. He was glad he had insisted that he go with her to India to help her through her grief. "Padme is back working today and I have a job interview tomorrow."
Handing the box of cookies to his grandfather, Booth sat next to Brennan who was now sitting next to Hank. "Here you go, Pops. Chocolate chip cookies with walnuts."
Glad for the treat, Hank opened the box and smiled. "Alright, I can have this with my coffee in the afternoon for a snack." Closing the box, he placed it on the coffee table. "Jared came by to tell me he was back in the country and about Padme's grandfather. What are you and Temperance doing here? You were just here two weeks ago."
Shifting a little, Booth took Brennan's hand in his hand and smiled. "Bones and I have some good news . . . Well . . ." Booth paused, glanced at Brennan who was staring at him and smiled. "Bones is going to have a baby."
"What?" Hank turned and grabbed Brennan's hand. "This is wonderful news. I'm going to be a great-grandfather again? This is just . . . I'm so happy for both of you." He felt a little silly, but he felt tears well up and he couldn't stop it. Taking a handkerchief from his pocket, he wiped his eyes and blew his nose. "Sorry, it's just I thought Parker was going to be the only great-grandchild I was going to get while I was alive."
A little annoyed, Jared sighed. "Pops, I'd like to give you one, but this is the wrong time for me to bring a kid into this world. I don't even have a job and I'm not going to be like Dad. He had a crappy job that he hated and he took that out on us. When I have my act together, then me and Padme will think about a kid."
"Alright, I didn't make that comment to get under your skin. It was just an observation." Hank shook his head. His youngest grandson had a tendency to be touchy. "So, anyway, congratulations Temperance. If you need a babysitter, I can always take a cab and come down and help out."
"Thank you for your generous offer, Hank." Brennan appreciated his kind words and offer to help. "I don't think that will be necessary since we will make sure to have Day Care set up for our baby before it's born . . . You are welcome to come visit us anytime though. We have added some more safety features in the guest bedroom you usually stay in. Booth removed the carpet and sanded the oak floors. Carpet and rugs are the number one reason for falls in the home. He also added a bar near the sink in the attached bathroom. He didn't think the one near the bathtub was enough."
Not sure whether he should be annoyed or amused, Hank decided to just accept the fact that his grandson knew he was old and wanted to cut down on the risk of an accident while he was there. "Sounds like a good idea. Thanks."
"You're welcome Pops." Booth believed in safety when it came to his family. He was making a list at home of the things he needed to do to make the house child proof for their baby. "Like Bones said, come and visit whenever you want to. We'd love it if you stayed for a week or two."
