Chapter 15 Distraction

Raven;

Raven had just caught up to Seth when Alexa came rushing up to her, her little face all red and hair amiss. It was like she had just finished having sex.

"Raven, you may wanna come to the locker room," "If Iziah has her boot on Charlotte's throat I cannot stop that, nor will I stop that"

"No, it's Jamie, she's getting worked up, her face is all red and she keeps bending and flexing, its like she's doing weird squats"

Raven knew exactly what Alexa was talking about and if Raven didn't move it, Jamie might wind back up in the ICU. She turned to Seth knowing that he would understand,

"Give me twenty minutes?, I'll meet you at the cafe after I've dealt with Jam"

"Sure, and if your not back in twenty minutes?"

"I'll be back in twenty, I give you my word" Raven gently touched his arm, hoping that he understood that this lunch actually meant something to her and she wouldn't miss it for the world. Right now however, Jamie needed her and as always she would go. Seth watched her go, hoping that this wouldn't be the one time Raven didn't keep her word.

When Raven got to the locker room she found the scene to be half of what Alexa said, Jamie was screeching, her little fists pumping beside her as she bent her knees, her way of jumping since actual jumping could damage her health, that she remembered. Jamie was screeching at Maryse who was holding her new born daughter, Raven instantly knew what the problem was, Jamie wanted to hold the baby and Maryse wasn't about to let a stranger hold her precious bundle. Raven put two fingers to her lips and let out a loud whistle, all noise in the locker room was halted, even the baby stopped crying to see what the noise was. Raven pointed a finger at Jamie,

"Sit down and take a breath"

Jamie sat down and heaved in air, still upset that she couldn't hold the baby. "Wanna tell me what's goin on?"

Maryse went to open her mouth but Raven pointed her finger at Jamie, "I was talking to you young lady"

"I wanna hold the baby!"

"Don't think for one second young lady that just because you have a brain injury don't mean I won't smack that attitude right out of you"

Maryse couldn't help but be a little amazed, Jamie instantly calmed down and reverted back to her 'adult' self, she had told Jamie that she was going to hit her and Jamie just told her to try, but her sister, well Jamie seemed to understand that Raven was boss.

"I asked her if I could hold the baby and she wouldn't let me" Jamie got out still upset that Maryse wouldn't let her hold the baby and not knowing why.

"Jamie do you know who The Miz is?"

"No"

"Well would you let him hold Spider-Pig?" Raven asked, that little piglet was like Jamie's baby, her precious bundle that she wouldn't let strangers hold.

"Hell no! I don't know him! I wouldn't let him hold...Oh!" Jamie finally understood why Maryse had told her no, her little face looked to Maryse,

"I'm sorry, I understand now that you said no cause you didn't know who I was, totally understand right now"

"So Jam, Maryse may not let you hold the baby but perhaps if you're quiet enough she'll let you say hello"

Jamie looked hopefully towards the blonde, not knowing what else to do, she lent forward so Jamie could say hello. Jamie gently trailed her fingers over the tiny hands,

"You is so tiny, so cute with your little button nose"

Maryse watched in awe as Jamie said hello to her daughter, completely content with just saying hello.

"All right Jamie, you've said hello now go and have lunch with your sister" Raven said as Jamie gave the baby last one coo. Jamie folded her arms and looked at her sister,

"I don't wanna have lunch with Iziah"

"Why not?"

"She hates me" Jamie got out normally, it was like she was asking for the weather, "If i notice it, you're not being very subtle"

Raven sympithised with her sister, it wasn't that Iziah hated Jamie, it was the fact that Iziah had no idea how to handle her sister now, plus Iziah had to be the voice of reason and Iziah hated being the voice of reason.

"Your sister doesn't hate you Jam, she just doesn't know how to handle you, you know how she hates being the voice of reason"

"Does that mean I can be the voice of reason?"

"Sure, why not" Raven agreed just so Jamie would smile and bounce happily out the door.

Raven turned to Maryse, "Thank you for being patient Maryse, Jamie has a brain injury, it's not an excuse, its a reason. Unfortunately when Jamie was in the hospital, her body waged war on itself, it tried to heal, tried to re-boot and tried to die all at once. Of course that meant internal bleedin, sadly for Jamie the first organs to go were her ovaries, meaning that she can't have babies, and the only thing Jamie ever wanted to do was be a mummy, I think she knows that she can't have her own babies, but sometimes she believes that because she can't have them it means that no-one else can either, so when she see's a newborn with it's mother, she considers it a miracle"

Maryse just looked at her stunned, trying to take in all the information at once, it sounded like a sob story but looking at the sterling silver of the young girl she realised it was merely Raven's way of trying to make her understand about Jamie.

"Don't worry, now that Jamie knows she can't hold the baby she'll remember that much, but I do ask if possible, could you just let her say hello"

"Of course" Maryse found herself agreeing before she could stop it, Raven let out a smile, relieved that she didn't have to spend any more time arguing.

"You know for a moment, I thought you were gonna wrestle my baby from my arms"

Raven laughed "With one arm? Please, I'm good but I'm not that good, oh and it was nice to meet you, I'm Raven by the way"

"It was interesting to meet you Raven"

Raven left Maryse to nurse her baby, she was cutting it fine but if she hustled she would make her date with Seth, she wasn't sure if she should call it that, but thats what she was going with. On her way out the door, she ran into Dean which made her realise she could kill another bird with one stone.

"Ambrose, a moment of your time" Raven said not really giving him a chance to object, "You're going about the whole Iziah thing the wrong way"

"So you wanna help me tame the wild beast?"

"It's quite simple, what you're doing right now isn't workin, so try something new, for example the horror house in town is playin her favourite movie so maybe suggest going to that, oh and also say that there will be free coffee, you will have to pay for that so you know"

He looked at her suspiciously, he was well aware that Raven knew damn well what he was trying with her sister and yet here she was trying to push them together.

"Let me put it this way Dean, you distract her and she won't see the bad things I'm doin, why do you think she doesn't mind me havin lunch with Seth, because she thinks it will distract me from the bad things she's doing, difference is I'm not as easily distracted like she is, besides it's comin up to that time of year"

"Time of year?"

"Iziah needs to have sex once a year or else she gets vicious" Raven patted his arm in odd comfort, "So have fun with that"

Seth looked at his watch, wondering if he should just give up, on the stroke of exactly twenty minutes, the door opened and she was bustling her way to his table looking red and flustered. Clearly she had been running.

"Sorry I'm late Seth, runnin three blocks really takes it out of me these days"

"It's fine, I ordered for you if you don't mind"

"As long as it's coffee, I'm good" Raven kept trying to get breathing under control, she used to be good at running, but since the lack of sleep she simply had no energy to go running these days. While she got her breathing under control, the coffee arrived along with a thick bacon sandwich.

"So Raven, what's your game?" Seth's glared peirced through her, he had been trying to get Dean's words out of his head but he just couldn't, Dean had a very valid point, he knew Raven and he knew that she could grudges for a long time, and she was very keen on the old addage, eye for an eye. She could be very patient when it came to getting revenge, and yet right now, she seemed almost nice, like the only plan she had was having his company for some lunch.

"Scrabble" Raven answered pleasantly picking up her coffee, "People who know me always assume it's chess, but honestly it's scrabble, I love word games and while I've been beaten at chess once or twice Ive never lost a game of scrabble"

"That's not what I mean but you knew that didn't you Rae"

Raven let out a chuckle, "I'm just wonderin why Dean's words affected you so deeply if you had truly moved on"

"He's pointed out that you can be as evil as your sister, maybe worse when it comes to revenge on people who have screwed you over"

Raven lent back in her seat, allowing herself to relax for a moment. The silence around them was comfy at first but the longer vivid green stared into startling silver, the silence became heavy.

"Seth, you're right, usually I would be hell bent on revenge for what you did since it did actually hurt, but present circumstances have made me re-evaluate things in my life, which meant I had to let go of certain things, being angry at you was one of them"

"What things did you have to re-evaluate Raven?"

Raven stayed silent for a long time, wondering if she could tell him about the sleep deprivation and the fact that if she didn't do something, anything, she would die, in fact every night she was without sleep, she was that much closer to death. Of course she couldn't say that to Seth because she knew he would run straight to Hunter, then she would have to deal with her father Shawn, because she knew Hunter would tell him.

"It's not important Seth" Raven finally got out, "Just know that I have no evil intentions for you, but if you're interested I could do with a friend?"

Seth instantly believed her, it wasn't the fact that she never lied, but the look in her eyes that hooked him in. Clearly she had something else going on that was far more important then the hurt he had caused her, something he hoped that he could make up for, one way or another.
