Ugh. JJ wasn't sure wether to say they were going through a depressive episode or if they were just being logical. The little ragtag group's "efforts" really seemed to be a shit show, now that they finally were just sitting back and thinking for a while. They hadn't been doing anything other than sitting on their asses and just waiting for things to happen. When JJ went on to start this whole crusade, stars in their eyes and ever rising excitement rising in their chest, they could admit now that all they had were just fantastical expectations. They thought they could have cool superpowers and suddenly be able to take on the world. They had imagined busting down doors and taking out the bad guy in a blaze of glory. A show that would leave even James Bond gaping like a damn fish. They thought they would be taking the world by storm.

But that just wasn't realistic, was it? No. All that had been done was yank a couple innocent people who just wanted to live their lives out of their comfortable homes and throwing them into a war zone where they could do practically nothing. That wasn't even mentioning the ptsd that was caused because JJ decided they wanted to be a fucking illogical dumbass who didn't even think before jumping off the branch like a normal person would.

"What's got you sulking, kid?"

JJ jumped practically a foot in the air at the sudden voice knocking them off their train of thought, hands coming up nearly in an offensive position before they saw the familiar shaved head of Matilda Choi, chocolate brown eyes staring down at them with a cocked brow.

"Uhhhhhh...my hair has been getting long?" JJ said awkwardly, completely avoiding telling the woman the real reason that they were "sulking" as Matilda said. Although it wasn't completely untrue. JJ's hair was getting long. Way too long. By this point it was nearly to their shoulders, they always did hate how fast it grew.

Matilda didn't look extremely convinced. But she also didn't really want to push. No need to try to force something they weren't comfortable with. Instead the woman smirked slightly.

"What, need me to shave it all off for you?" She asked. JJ blinked in surprise for a moment.

"Is that sarcasm, or would you actually do that? Do you even know how to handle a razor?" They asked.

Matilda laughed out loud at the question, practically incredulous as she pointed to her head.

"Who do you think keeps my hair this short? I had a wild time in my younger years learning to cut it myself." She told the child, who sat up in their giant bean bag.

"No shit? Could you do a mohawk?" JJ said, already brightening up. Matilda's smirk widened into a grin.

"Hell yeah I can do a mohawk! But Jackson hogs all the styling gel so I'll have to steal a bit." She said with a nod.

"God, please. I absolutely hate it when my hair gets long." JJ immediately responded jovially, hopping off their bed to stand next to the woman.

"Great. Uhm, you can sit over there while I get my stuff. Won't be a minute." Matilda said, pointing over to a chair at the side of the room where JJ didn't hesitate to bounce over and sit in. And with a wave, Matilda was gone.

It was really only when JJ had just talked with someone when they realized the silence felt crushing afterwards. For a second, they wondered if she wasn't going to come back. But it was a silly thought of course, she came floating down a short while later with a towel on her shoulder and other things in her hands.

"Miss me?" She said jokingly.

"Immensely." JJ snorted back. They hoped it didn't sound as non joking as it felt.

Matilda came over, pushing JJ's hair up and putting the towel over the both of their shoulders.

"What kind of mohawk you thinking of, kid? Something short? To the side? Whaddaya like?" The woman asked. JJ thought for a second, then shrugged slightly.

"Surprise me. As long as I have less of it, I think I'll be alright." They responded. Matilda simply shrugged at that

"Alright, you got it. And if anything goes wrong, we can always give you a buzzcut like mine." Matilda said. JJ chuckled along with her, and the woman got to work.

It was both a blessing and a curse that JJ had naturally thicker, fluffy hair. On one hand, it was hell to cut. Matilda kept mentioning that they probably had more hair than she'd ever seen on a person other than Ruby. On the other hand, when she finally got done shaving the sides of their head, leaving a good thick bit in the middle, it made it quite easy to figure out what to do with it. It flopped to one side slightly at first, but a bit of gel tamed it to go forward more with slight spikes. Once she was done, she stepped back in satisfaction.

"Alright, there we go. Need a mirror?" She said. JJ grinned, glancing about for a second before remembering something. They looked over near their bed, and flicked their hand up. A second later their phone came flying. They caught it, and turned it on to show the front facing camera, which only made them grin wider.

"I love it." They stated. Matilda held back from ruffling their newly styled hair, patting them on the shoulder instead.

"Great. It's lunch time, so you should come up and show it off. I'm going up, you coming with?" She asked.

"In a minute. Just want to do something first." JJ responded. Matilda raised a brow at that, but didn't ask. She simply nodded and went on her way. JJ felt just a bit lighter in her wake. Thank god for people who knew how to do hair.

(Ok uhhhhh needless to say I got severely unmotivated and was fucked over but I am hoping that this will be the start of me getting going again, if slowly.)
